2010 Free Agency: Star rating is out of five. Age listing as of Sept. 1, 2010.
-
Jared Gaither (RFA), OT, Ravens. Age: 24.
Re-signed with Ravens (1 year, $2.4 million)
Franchise left tackles don’t grow on trees, and the Ravens need to make sure they retain Jared Gaither. Gaither has a bit of a problem with penalties, but he allowed just four sacks in 11 starts. At just 24, he’ll keep improving.
-
Jammal Brown (RFA), OT, Saints. Age: 29.
Traded to Redskins for conditional 3rd-round pick
An elite left tackle, Jammal Brown would be at the top of the offensive tackle rankings if it wasn’t for his recent injury history.
-
Marcus McNeill (RFA), OT, Chargers. Age: 26.
Tendered by Chargers (1st, 3rd round)
A franchise left tackle, Marcus McNeill surrendered five sacks in 16 contests last season. McNeill has missed only two starts in his career.
-
Willie Colon (RFA), OT, Steelers. Age: 27.
Re-signed with Steelers (1 year, $2.5 million)
The Steelers called Willie Colon their best offensive lineman. That’s pretty sad, considering he allowed eight sacks from the right tackle position. That number is a bit misleading because Ben Roethlisberger often held on to the ball too long, but still.
-
Tyson Clabo (RFA), OT, Falcons. Age: 28.
Re-signed with Falcons (1 year, $2.5 million)
A solid, but unspectacular right tackle in this league. Tyson Clabo will be tendered again.
-
Charlie Johnson (RFA), OT, Colts. Age: 26.
Re-signed with Colts (1 year, $1.7 million)
Charlie Johnson did a good job protecting Peyton Manning’s blind side this season, but he’s not a franchise left tackle.
-
Mark Tauscher, OT, Packers. Age: 33.
Re-signed with Packers (2 years)
Given up for dead after a nasty knee injury, Mark Tauscher sat at home eating Cheetos until the Packers called him up. He played brilliantly during the second half of the season.
-
Ryan O’Callaghan (RFA), OT, Chiefs. Age: 27.
Re-signed with Chiefs (1 year, $1.7 million)
Ryan O’Callaghan played very well down the stretch, but I’m not overly confident that he’s the long-term answer at right tackle for the Chiefs.
-
Jermon Bushrod (RFA), OT, Saints. Age: 26.
Re-signed with Saints (1 year, $1.6 million)
Jermon Bushrod stepped in for an injured Jammal Brown and played relatively well. He still allowed 7.5 sacks, so don’t think he’s a franchise left tackle or anything.
-
Donald Penn (RFA), OT, Buccaneers. Age: 27.
Re-signed with Buccaneers
Donald Penn has been solid in the past, but really struggled with his weight this year.
-
Shawn Andrews, OT, Eagles. Age: 27.
Signed with Giants
Back problems? Check. Depression? Check. No love for the game of football? Check. Shawn Andrews is a waste of immense talent.
-
Chad Clifton, OT, Packers. Age: 34.
Re-signed with Packers (3 years, $20 million; $7.5 million guaranteed)
Chad Clifton was great at left tackle for the Packers this year – or maybe it just seemed that way because everyone else Green Bay tried failed miserably. Unfortunately, Clifton is 34 and has an extensive injury history.
-
Flozell Adams, OT, Cowboys. Age: 35.
Signed with Steelers (2 years)
Flozell Adams commits tons of penalties and is lost in pass protection, but can still open up huge running lanes. He can be a capable right tackle for the next couple of seasons.
-
Jeremy Trueblood (RFA), OT, Buccaneers. Age: 27.
Re-signed with Buccaneers (1 year, $1.7 million)
Jeremy Trueblood is a solid run-blocker, but struggles in pass protection. He was whistled for a whopping 12 penalties in 2009.
-
Jeromey Clary (RFA), OT, Chargers. Age: 26.
Re-signed with Chargers (1 year, $1.6 million)
A mediocre starting right tackle who may have lost his starting job to Brandyn Dombrowski.
-
Mike Gandy, OT, Cardinals. Age: 31.
Mike Gandy surrendered eight sacks and was whistled for eight penalties in 12 games. His starting days are over.
-
Jeremy Bridges, OT, Cardinals. Age: 30.
Re-signed with Cardinals (3 years)
Jeremy Bridges played relatively well at left tackle in place of injured Mike Gandy.
-
Alex Barron (RFA), OT, Rams. Age: 27.
Traded to Cowboys
St. Louis’ version of Jeff Backus, Alex Barron inexplicably has been defended ad nauseum by St. Louis’ fans and coaching staff. Barron led all offensive linemen in penalties this year.
-
Dennis Roland (ERFA), OT, Bengals. Age: 27.
Re-signed with Bengals (1 year)
Dennis Roland started at right tackle this year, but gave up six sacks in 12 starts. The Bengals will be hoping that Andre Smith can start at that position next season.
-
Orlando Pace, OT, Bears. Age: 34.
I can’t believe I’m listing Orlando Pace this low, but the fact remains that he was horrific with the Bears last year. He may retire.
-
Zach Strief (RFA), OT, Saints. Age: 26.
Re-signed with Saints (1 year, $1.7 million)
A solid backup tackle, but not a starter.
-
Stephon Heyer (RFA), OT, Redskins. Age: 26.
Re-signed with Redskins (1 year, $1.6 million)
A capable backup tackle, but should not be in any starting lineup for an extended period of time.
-
Ryan Cook (RFA), OT, Vikings. Age: 27.
Re-signed with Vikings (1 year, $1.1 million)
Has some starting experience. A versatile backup.
-
Tony Pashos, OT, 49ers. Age: 30.
Signed with Browns (3 years, $10.3 million)
Can’t be a starter anymore, but has experience and should serve as a solid backup.
- Adam Terry, OT, Chargers. Age: 28.

- Mike Otto (RFA), OT, Titans. Age: 27. — Re-signed with Titans
- Rob Petitti, OT, Panthers. Age: 28.
- Barry Richardson (ERFA), OT, Chiefs. Age: 24. — Re-signed with Chiefs
- Jon Jansen, OT, Lions. Age: 34.

- Daniel Federkeil (RFA), OT, Colts. Age: 26.
