2010 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Quincy Pondexter

Position: Small Forward

Size: 6-6, 215

School: Washington, Senior

Strengths:

Nice mid-range game

Good turnaround jumper

Free throw shooting

Effective posting up on the block especially against smaller defenders

Crashes the boards

Very physical for a wing player

Is not afraid of contact

Active on both ends of the floor

Can guard multiple positions

High character guy who was a great leader during his senior season

Weaknesses:

Must improve three-point shooting

Ball handling

Needs to become more comfortable playing away from the ball

Perimeter defense needs to improve at the next level

Not a great passer

Summary: After underachieving in his first three years at Washington, Pondexter blew up during his senior season, finally showing the potential he had when first arriving in college. There are still concerns about his perimeter game making him a borderline first-round pick. He won’t be a star in the NBA, but could develop into a solid role player.

Player Comparison: Trenton Hassell. Hassell is a physical wing known more for the “other things” he does on the floor rather than his ability to score. Hassell has stuck around because he has found his niche with every team he has played on, and Pondexter will have to do the same.
