2012 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Jae Crowder
Position: Small Forward
Size: 6-6, 225
School: Marquette, Senior
Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Summary: Wesley Matthews’ success in the NBA has helped Marquette players (Lazar Hayward and Jimmy Butler sneaking into the late first round the past two seasons) earn the reputation of being rugged and hard-nosed, and able to contribute in numerous ways. Jae Crowder fits that description perfectly. However, Crowder doesn’t have a true position at the next level which hurts his stock. Still, he should get second round looks due to his versatility.
Player Comparison: Lazar Hayward. The Marquette parallel is obvious, but both guys are undersized by NBA standards as they were counted on to play the post in college but will have to play small forward in the NBA. Like Hayward, Crowder is capable of stretching defenses with their three-point shooting but lacks the ideal wing skills or explosiveness to be a real threat off the bounce.
