2016 NFL Playoff Predictions – Wildcard Round

6. Minnesota Vikings (11-5) at 3. Carolina Panthers (11-5)
The Panthers lost the Super Bowl to the Broncos for a couple of reasons. They were overconfident, but a greater reason was that their tackles simply couldn’t handle Denver’s edge rushers. It was just an awful matchup. That appears to be the case here; Everson Griffen and Brian Robison aren’t exactly Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware, but they’ll have the edge over Carolina’s tackles, which inexplicably weren’t upgraded.

Vikings 17, Panthers 15

5. Seattle Seahawks (12-4) at 4. Dallas Cowboys (10-6)
Russell Wilson always somehow finds a way to win games. The Cowboys, under Tony Romo, have always found a way to lose big games. This prediction almost seems too easy, as the Seahawks are the better squad anyway.

Seahawks 33, Cowboys 30

6. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6) at 3. Kansas City Chiefs (10-6)
A playoff matchup between Ben Roethlisberger and Alex Smith… it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know what will happen. Smith doesn’t have the ability to take his team deep into the postseason, while Roethlisberger has obviously done so in the past.

Steelers 23, Chiefs 16

5. Houston Texans (11-5) at 4. Cincinnati Bengals (10-6)
The Texans and Bengals seem to be destined to meet in the playoffs every other year. Houston has owned Cincinnati in the postseason, and there’s no reason to think that won’t continue. These teams are even overall, but the Texans have the edge at quarterback, which means a lot more in January.

Texans 16, Bengals 13

2016 NFL Playoff Predictions – Divisional Round

6. Minnesota Vikings (11-5) at 1. Arizona Cardinals (13-3)
The Cardinals appear to be the best team in the NFL, but whether or not they go the distance in the playoffs is a completely different story. Carson Palmer doesn’t have a good track record in the postseason, often failing to play up to his ability. There’s also a decent chance that Palmer will be hurt by this time. I could totally see Arizona winning the Super Bowl, but there’s a better chance that something goes awry. The Vikings, who nearly took the Cardinals to overtime last year, should be able to prevail this time.

Vikings 20, Cardinals 17

5. Seattle Seahawks (12-4) at 2. Green Bay Packers (12-4)
The Packers nearly beat the Seahawks on the road in the NFC Championship a couple of years ago. That was in Seattle, and a battle in Green Bay could go in the Packers’ favor. Green Bay stumbled into the playoffs last year and lost in the second round, but with Aaron Rodgers healthy now, the Packers are expected to make a deeper push into the postseason.

Packers 27, Seahawks 24

6. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6) at 1. Indianapolis Colts (12-4)
The Steelers went into Indianapolis and took down the Colts in the playoffs when Peyton Manning was the quarterback. Battling Andrew Luck could net a different result, however, as Luck, unlike Manning, hasn’t shown that he chokes in the playoffs. Like Aaron Rodgers, Luck figures to be healthy in 2016, meaning his team will be able to make a deep run into the playoffs once again.

Colts 27, Steelers 26

5. Houston Texans (11-5) at 2. New England Patriots (12-4)
The other three games in the divisional round were all close ones. Naturally, there has to be one blowout, and this one could be it. The Patriots have owned the Texans over the years. Granted, this was before Houston had a quarterback, but Tom Brady should be able to solve his former defensive coordinator’s schemes. Bill Belichick, meanwhile, should be able to figure out what Bill O’Brien has planned.

Patriots 27, Texans 13

2016 NFL Playoff Predictions – Championship Sunday

6. Minnesota Vikings (11-5) at 2. Green Bay Packers (12-4)
The Vikings obviously have the better running game in this matchup, and they also possess the superior defense. However, the team that has the greatest edge in one area is Green Bay with its aerial attack. Teddy Bridgewater is a solid quarterback, but Aaron Rodgers is arguably the league’s best signal-caller, and he’s nearly unstoppable at home when he’s healthy. I could see the Vikings winning this matchup, but the Packers are slightly better right now.

Packers 23, Vikings 20

2. New England Patriots (12-4) at 1. Indianapolis Colts (12-4)
Can Andrew Luck finally overcome the Patriots? It’s certainly possible, especially if playing at home. Now in his fifth year, Luck should be ready to take the next step and advance to the Super Bowl. This was projected on the site a year ago, but Luck sustained an injury, prompting a horrible season from Indianapolis. With Luck healthy and protected by a bolstered offensive line, the sky is the limit for the Colts.

Colts 30, Patriots 27

2016 NFL Playoff Predictions – Super Bowl LI at Houston

Green Bay Packers (12-4) vs. Indianapolis Colts (12-4)
This game, if it were to happen, might remind many of the Warriors-Cavaliers championship. Cleveland was able to advance to the championship by beating up on inferior competition in a weak conference. The Warriors, meanwhile, have the best offensive player in the NBA. That’s the case with the Packers and Aaron Rodgers.

Golden State would have throttled Cleveland had it not been for the Draymond Green suspension and crooked officiating in Game 6, and that could happen here as well. This game might not be a total blowout, but the Packers are better. If Aaron Rodgers stays healthy, Green Bay is certainly one of the favorites to win Super Bowl LI.

Packers 29, Colts 21
