2012 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Andrew Nicholson
Position: Power Forward
Size: 6-9, 240
School: St. Bonaventure, Senior
Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Summary: Nicholson was an under-the-radar prospect most of his career until leading the Bonnies to the Atlantic-10 Tournament title and spot in the NCAA Tournament. Due to his inside/outside ability, Nicholson should likely be a late first-round pick. I don’t think he will ever be a starter in the league but could be a valuable reserve and thrive in pick and pop situations.
Player Comparison: Charlie Villanueva. Villanueva has always been more of a perimeter-based power forward who can use his length and versatility inside as well. Nicholson is in that same mold. He has a nice stroke from the outside and can take defenders down low with his back to the basket game. The former A-10 Player of the Year does tend to float out on the perimeter too much just like Villanueva.
