2013 NFL Draft Prospects: Other

These are the school’s prospects for the 2013 NFL Draft by status * – denotes 2014 prospect ** – denotes 2015 prospect.

This page was last updated April 24, 2013. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

  1. Terron Armstead, OT/G, Arkansas Pine-Bluff
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 310. Arm: 33 5/8. Hand: 9 7/8.
    40 Time: 4.71.
    Projected Round (2013): 2-3.

4/24/13: Many teams like Armstead, and he is one of the better tackle prospects for the second day of the 2013 NFL Draft. Armstead played tackle for Arkansas Pine-Bluff, but some teams may move him to guard in the NFL. He performed well in postseason All-Star games in January, which has helped his draft stock. Armstead is a good athlete for his size who also is a track champion. He is a nice developmental prospect.

Armstead put on a show at the Combine. He ran the 40-yard dash in a blistering time of 4.71 seconds. That was the fastest of any offensive lineman. He also did well on the bench press (31 reps) and in the field drills.

  2. Robert Alford, CB, Southeastern Louisiana
    Height: 5-10. Weight: 188. Arm: 31 1/8. Hand: 9 3/8.
    40 Time: 4.39.
    Projected Round (2013): 2-3.

4/24/13: There is a nice buzz about Alford, and he looks solid on the second day. Alford continued his tremendous postseason with a fast 40 time at the Combine. He also moved well in the field drills. All that should help him to stand out in a crowded cornerback class.

Alford displayed some ball skills in college with 10 interceptions and 20 passes broken up over his career. He was put to the test at the Senior Bowl and played extremely well. Alford did well in man coverage, zone coverage and on special teams. He could be a nice nickel corner in the NFL. His strong performance in Mobile and at the Combine should help him to be a second-day pick.

  3. Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 341. Arm: 32 3/4. Hand: 9 5/8.
    40 Time: 5.37.
    Projected Round (2012): 2-4.

4/24/13: Williams was a consistent pass-rusher over the last three seasons. He totaled 25.5 sacks over that time. Williams had 68 tackles, 16.5 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks and five forced fumbles this year. He totaled eight sacks and 35 tackles in 2011. Williams recorded nine sacks and 17 tackles for a loss as a sophomore. He helped himself by performing well at the Senior Bowl.

  4. Da’Rick Rogers*, WR, Tennessee Tech
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 217. Arm: 32.68. Hand: 9.48.
    40 Time: 4.52.
    Projected Round (2013): 2-4.

4/24/13: Rogers held his own at the Combine in the field events, but his team interviews were the most important part for him.

If Josh Gordon can be a second-round pick after sitting out football in 2011, there is no reason for Rogers not to be at least a second-day pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Rogers was kicked off of Tennessee’s football team just before the start of the 2012 season for failed drug tests, and ended up transfering to Tennessee Tech.

Rogers totaled 61 receptions for 893 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Golden Eagles. He has a lot to prove off the field, but has first-round talent.

8/17/12: Rogers became the Volunteers’ primary receiver in 2011 after Justin Hunter suffered a season-ending injury in the third game of the year. Rogers had a very good season as a sophomore, totaling 67 receptions for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns despite playing with the backup quarterback for parts of the season.

Quick and physical, Rogers plays with an edge and some fire. He is a tough receiver that regularly makes highlight reel catches. The sophomore had some off-the-field problems late last year, and his situation at Tennessee is worth monitoring. Rogers will match up against the top cornerback in the nation, North Carolina State’s David Amerson, in Tennessee’s first game of the sesaon.

  5. B.W. Webb, CB, William & Mary
    Height: 5-10. Weight: 184. Arm: 30 1/8. Arm: 9 5/8.
    40 Time: 4.51.
    Projected Round (2013): 2-4.

4/24/13: Webb was a team leader since his freshman season in 2009. He was the conference Rookie of the Year and a Second-Team All-Conference selection as he recorded eight interceptions in his debut season. Webb was an all-conference pick in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The senior had 46 tackles with eight passes broken up and a forced fumble this year. He also averaged 11.2 yards on punt returns with a touchdown.

Webb will need to add weight for the NFL, but he has nice developmental potential. Webb held his own against the better competition at the Senior Bowl and showed some man-coverage ability. He was solid at the Combine. Those performances help him to be a potential mid-round pick.

  6. J.J. Wilcox, S, Georgia Southern
    Height: 6-0. Weight: 213. Arm: 30 1/2. Hand: 8 7/8.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.58.
    Projected Round (2013): 3-4.

4/24/13: Wilcox is a good athlete who also contributed as a runner, receiver and kick returner for Georgia Southern. He finished his career at safety and recorded 88 tackles with three passes broken up and two interceptions as a senior. Some feel that Wilcox has the speed and athleticism of a cornerback. He averaged 24 yards per kick return in college. Sources told WalterFootball.com that Wilcox didn’t work out well at his pro day.

A strong performance at the Senior Bowl really helped Wilcox’s draft status. He showed the ability to play man coverage and really competed well with the talent from the big schools.

  7. Montori Hughes, DT, Tennessee-Martin
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 329. Arm: 33.68.
    40 Time: 5.23.
    Projected Round (2012): 3-4.

4/24/13: If it weren’t for off-the-field problems, Hughes could be a high second-day pick. He has talent, size and speed. Hughes picked up 42 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks and a pass broken up in 2012. He had a strong Senior Bowl performance and really helped himself. Hughes also put together a solid performance at the Combine.

8/25/12: Hughes was kicked off of Tennessee’s team, so he ended up transfering to Tennessee-Martin, an FCS school. The junior had a mixed season for the Volunteers in 2011 with 28 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, one sack, and one forced fumble, which he recovered. He recorded most of his stats (10 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, his sack and his fumble) against Eastern Illinois, a team that went 2-9 in 2011.

Hughes recorded 17 tackles with 3.5 tackles for a loss and a forced fumble in 2010. The sophomore had some academic violations that caused him to be suspended for the season finale against Kentucky.

Hughes combines athletic ability and good size, but his off-the-field problems have killed his draft stock.

  8. Luke Marquardt, OT, Azusa Pacific
    Height: 6-8. Weight: 315. Arm: 34.48
    40 Time: 5.17.
    Projected Round (2013): 4-6.

4/24/13: Marquardt has the size, length and frame to develop into a starting right tackle in the NFL. He has surprisingly quick feet and is athletic. Marquardt’s basketball background can be seen in his agility and smooth movement skills. He is a developmental prospect with big upside.

Marquardt was a backup tight end as a freshman before switching to tackle late in the year. Marquardt locked down a starting spot at tackle for his final three collegiate seasons.

  9. Garrett Gilkey, G, Chadron State
    Height: 6-5. Weight: 314. Arm: 31 3/4. Hand: 10 3/8.
    40 Time: 5.33.
    Projected Round (2013): 4-6.

4/24/13: Gilkey already has an NFL body, and he held his own at the Senior Bowl against the better competition. Gilkey played left tackle in college, but will have to move inside in the NFL. He was a 3-year starter at left tackle for Chadron State and collected a lot of conference awards.

  10. Aaron Mellette, WR, Elon
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 216. Arm: 32 1/8. Hand: 9 5/8.
    40 Time: 4.54.
    Projected Round (2013): 4-6.

4/24/13: Mellette ran as expected at the Combine, which was a solid time for a bigger, stronger receiver like him. He had a very productive college career and dominated his lower level of competition.

The senior caught 97 passes for 1,398 yards with 18 touchdowns in 2012. Unfortunately, the only good opponent he faced was North Carolina and the Tar Heels held him to nine yards on two receptions. Mellette had big production as a junior (113 catches, 1,639 yards, 12 touchdowns) and sophomore (86 catches, 1,100 yards, 12 scores).

Still, Mellette held his own at the Senior Bowl. He used his size and strength to make plays and helped himself with a good overall performance.

  11. Ty Powell, OLB, Harding
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 246. Arm: 32.48.
    40 Time: 4.64.
    Projected Round (2013): 4-6.

4/24/13: Powell was one of the stars at the Combine and has continued to improve his standing with NFL scouts. He impressed scouts at his pro day with his movement skills at linebacker. Powell played defensive end, safety and linebacker during college.

The senior had 15 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, 40 tackles and four blocked kicks in 2012.

  12. Kyle Juszcyk, FB, Harvard
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 248. Arm: 31 3/8. Hand: 9.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.79.
    Projected Round (2013): 4-6.

4/24/13: Juszcyk played a lot of tight end at Harvard and led the team in receptions as a senior. He had 52 catches for 706 yards and eight touchdowns. Juszcyk will have to move to fullback for the NFL. He performed well in that role at the Senior Bowl. Juszcyk did well as a blocker and receiver. He did not participate in the Combine, but many regard him as the top fullback in the 2013 NFL Draft.

  13. Earl Watford, G, James Madison
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 300. Arm: 34. Hand: 10.
    40 Time: 5.06.
    Projected Round (2013): 4-6.

4/24/13: Watford was a standout in college allowing less than a handful of sacks and having success as a run-blocker. He has some athleticism and could be groomed at center. Watford was impressive at the Combine with speed and agility. He has some nice developmental potential.

  14. Mike Catapano, DE, Princeton
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 271.
    40 Time: 4.75.
    Projected Round (2013): 4-6.

4/24/13: Catapano is an interesting prospect. He performed really well at the East-West Shrine to help get on the radar for NFL teams. The senior had 12 sacks, 41 tackles and 15.5 tackles for a loss in 2012. He had five sacks as a junior. Catapano showed some speed and strength at his pro day with good performances on the bench press (33 reps) and in the 40-yard dash.

  15. J.C. Tretter, G, Cornell
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 302. Arm: 32 1/4. Hand: 10 1/8.
    40 Time: 5.09.
    Projected Round (2013): 5-6.

4/24/13: Tretter broke his nose at the Senior Bowl, and a number of teams were disappointed as they wanted to get a good look at him against better competition. Tretter was an All-Ivy League selection at left tackle for the 2012 season. All of his 20 starts were at left tackle in college, but he’ll have to move to guard or center in the NFL.

  16. David Bass, DE, Missouri Western State
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 262. Arm: 33.48.
    40 Time: 4.84.
    Projected Round (2013): 5-7.

4/24/13: Bass looked good at the East-West Shrine and flashed some pass-rush ability in the one-on-ones. He was a big part of his Division II program making a postseason run. The senior collected 61 tackles and 11.5 sacks in 2012. He had 14.5 sacks with 20 tackles for a loss as a junior. Bass could be a nice sleeper for the third day of the 2013 NFL Draft.

  17. Jasper Collins, WR, Mount Union
    Height: 6-0. Weight: 190.
    40 Time: 4.47.
    Projected Round (2013): 5-7.

4/24/13: Mount Union has produced some quality NFL receivers with Pierre Garcon and Cecil Shorts. Collins is the latest in line and showed some nice ability at the East-West Shrine. Collins is very fast and runs good routes with quickness. The East-West quarterbacks struggled to get Collins the ball, but he was regularly getting separation from defensive backs. Collins ran well at his pro day and performed well.

Collins had 92 receptions for 1,694 yards with 22 touchdowns as a senior. He averaged 18.4 yards per catch. Collins is a crafty receiver. The success of Shorts and Garcon should help Collins. He may not make it into the mid-rounds, but his receiving and special teams return ability could get him drafted.

  18. Cooper Taylor, S, Richmond
    Height: 6-5. Weight: 235.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
    Projected Round (2013): 5-7.

4/24/13: Taylor was one of the standouts of the East-West Shrine. He did well in pass defense and defending the run. The senior totaled 77 tackles with five tackles for a loss, nine passes broken up, three forced fumbles and four interceptions in 2012.

Taylor didn’t play much in college, but he has some developmental potential for the NFL. Taylor is also a candidate to move to linebacker.

  19. Nathan Stanley, QB, Southeastern Louisiana
    Height: 6-5. Weight: 215.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.95.
    Projected Round (2013): 6-FA.

4/24/13: Stanley started out his career at Ole Miss before transferring to Southeastern Louisiana. The senior completed 53 percent of his passes for 1,705 yards with eight touchdowns and nine interceptions this year. Stanley also performed well at the East-West Shrine. He was not at the Combine.

Stanley displays all the physical tools NFL teams look for with a strong arm and good pocket presence. He will need some development, but could be a good sleeper for the third day of the 2013 NFL Draft.

  20. Brandon Kaufman, WR, Eastern Washington
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 214. Arm: 32.28. Hand: 9.28.
    40 Time: 4.67.
    Projected Round (2013): 7-FA.

4/24/13: Kaufman had huge production as a junior with 93 receptions for 1,850 yards and 16 touchdowns. The majority of his 2011 season was lost to injury with a broken hand and injured knee. Kaufman caught 76 passes for 1,214 yards and 15 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2010. At the Combine, he had a slow 40 time.

  21. Ray Ray Armstrong, S, Faulkner University
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 220.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.59.
    Projected Round (2013): FA.

4/24/13: Armstrong was ruled ineligible by the NAIA. He entered the 2013 NFL Draft having not played in 2012. Armstrong would be fortunate to land an undrafted free agent contract.

9/2/12: Armstrong left Miami after more off-the-field issues. Ending up at an NAIA school is going to hurt his stock tremendously. He was suspended for the first four games of the 2011 season and his presence was missed by Miami. Armstrong was suspended for an additional game after outing himself on Twitter for having dinner with a marketing representative. The junior had 34 tackles, an interception and two passes broken up in six games last year.

Armstrong was a Second-Team All-ACC selection in 2010 and recorded 79 tackles with three interceptions. He showed up well against the Hurricanes’ better opponents, with nine total tackles against both Ohio State and Florida State.

Armstrong is fast, big and athletic. He has tons of physical talent, but he has not translated that into a dominant on-field performance yet. If Armstrong lands with the right coaching staff, he could be a steal due to having a high ceiling. It was imperative that Armstrong stay out of trouble and productive as a senior to avoid the third day – that was as a Hurricane though. Since he wasn’t able to do that, it is difficult to project him going in the top 100.

  22. Washaun Ealey, RB, Jacksonville State
    Height: 5-11. Weight: 215.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.46.
    Projected Round (2013): FA.

4/23/13: Ealey had 727 yards on 179 carries with 10 touchdowns in 2012. He caught 21 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns, too.

8/16/12: Ealey had off-the-field troubles and transferred out of Georgia. He landed at Jacksonville State for 2011. Ealey ran for 1,119 yards, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He ran for eight touchdowns and averaged 108 yards per game.

Ealey is a similar back to former Bulldogs back Knowshon Moreno in terms of his running style. Ealey totaled 811 yards and 11 touchdowns for Georgia in 2010, averaging 5.2 yards per carry. He ran for 717 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman in 2009.

Georgia did not use Ealey in the passing game that much. He had only 11 receptions for 108 yards over his two seasons as a Bulldog. Ealey is a talented back, but the off-the-field problems make his draft stock hard to predict.

  23. Greg Reid, CB, Valdosta State
    Height: 5-8. Weight: 190.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.43.
    Projected Round (2013): FA.

4/24/13: Reid tore his ACL and didn’t play this season. He was unable to work out at the Combine.

9/1/12: Reid was kicked out of Florida State after being arrested in the offseason. He transfered down to Valdosta State to play as a senior.

Reid is extremely fast and his best asset is his return ability. He’s averaged 12.6 yards per punt return with three touchdowns in his career. As a kick returner, Reid has brought back 63 kicks with an average of 24.7 yards with zero touchdowns.

The 5-foot-8, 185-pounder had 32 tackles with two interceptions and five passes broken up in 2011. The junior was beaten at times as teams tested him a lot rather than throwing against Xavier Rhodes. Reid totaled five interceptions as a sophomore and freshman. He is a decent cover corner who projects to being a slot corner and returner in the NFL. As a nickelback, his size should be less of an issue.
