2011 NFL Draft Mailbag

NFL Draft Mailbag Notes: These are not actually e-mails. They are comments left on the comment board in my 2011 NFL Mock Draft. I've included some of these comments and my responses to them.

2011 NFL Draft E-mails - Crackhead Mail

  • From Ark:

heres the top ten Top ten 2011 1 Carolina - Dareous 2 Denver - Petersen 3 Buffalo

    --> I think I speak for everyone when I say that's one hell of a top 10.

  • From Tbone:

top ten mistakes in your draft 1 chris culiver at 198 how about gone at 94 2 denarius moore at 194 how about gone at 159 3 chimdi chekwa at 162 how about gone at 74 4 shareece wright at 146 how about gone at 94 5 joe lefeged at 142 how about gone at 124 6 niles paul at 131 how about gone at 94 7 kenrick ellis at 126 how about gone at 74 8 dontay moch at 96 how about gone at 74 9 demarco murray at 96 how about gone at 74 10 ras i dowling at 81 how about gone at 60

--> You have four players "gone at 74" - Chimdi Chekwa, Kenrick Ellis, Dontay Moch and DeMarco Murray. Naturally, the Patriots are drafting at No. 74, so Bill Belichick must be using one hell of a camcorder to get all of those guys on his team.

  • From 1788:

Dude your round 6 sucks!!!! Same for your OG rankings. UNLV guard Matt Murphy had an awesome pro day!! Do some research!!!!!!!

--> Well, at least my Rounds 1-5 don't suck.

And who the hell is Matt Murphy? I took your advice and did some research. CBS ranks Murphy as the 630th best player in this class. ESPN doesn't rank him at all. So there you go. I did some research!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • From SheepHearder:

Baaaaaaaa. Keep on following Walt! And by that I mean keep up the good work of your cut-n-paste mocks! Isn't it nice to have a subscription to "IN" on Makes your "job" a whole lot easier, huh?!

--> What the hell is a "sheep hearder?" And for someone who makes fun of ESPN constantly, I'm very disgruntled that someone thinks I "cut-n-paste" from their site.

  • From John:

the charges are going to draft julio jones.there not going for wilkerson.wilkerson will come in the second round.thats my opinion.

--> What? How the hell are the "Charges" going to get Julio Jones? And saying "Wilkerson will come in the second round" sounds kinda dirty.

  • From Nunua:

what are u talking about with the jags?

--> Weh? What are you talking about about talking about with the Jags? Ouch, I just made my head hurt.

  • From TT:

Could you possibly hate on the Titans any more than you do in this mock draft? Each of the first three picks, you mention something about how they don't care about character, if anybody will take this guy the Titans will, they don't care about the major red flags, etc. I just think you're being ignorant in acting like the Titans are the only team that has taken risks on players in the past. At the end of the day, talent trumps character the majority of the time. This strategy backfires sometimes, (see Talib from the Bucs getting arrested this week. Why no Buc hate?) but to act like Tennessee is the only team that is ever willing to take these risks is beyond narrow minded.

--> Umm... here are some write-ups from my Bucs picks:

"One team that will ignore Clayborn's character concerns is Tampa Bay."

"Jabaal Sheard is a late first-round talent, but will probably fall into the middle of Round 2 because of a previous arrest. The Buccaneers, however, have a tendency of looking past these things."

As our good friend 1788 would say, "Do some research!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Why do you have Liuget to the Saints at 24 when they just acquired Shaun Rogers? He'll be the man next to Sedrick Ellis with possibily Ayodele and/or Hargrove as backups.
I think a DE would make more sense because of Alex Brown and Will Smith past seasons' struggles.
However you do a good job, and I like you being owned by Mayock, he's the man for real!

You have to be joking, right? You still haven't revealed what Mallet's character concerns are. And before you go down your list of all of the other "Experts" who cited the same thing, save yourself the time. From what I have seen of your site this year, it is obvious you are trying to pull a Mike Florio and see if you can parlay your site into a network gig or something. Here is some free advice, why not actually look into what teams needs are, and how they will draft before you just throw a name out there. Also, you might want to watch yourself with the borderline slander of Ryan Mallett. Resorting to name calling really makes you look like an amateur. Flat out lying about someone, and possibly playing a role in him losing financially would make an interesting court fight.

If there is no free agency before the draft, which organizations are best prepared to take advantage of that scenario? Do you see some organizations hitting the panic button during the draft because they have a huge need at a position and thinking they might not fill it during free agency?

If you are right about the Bills wanting Newton, or maybe Gabbert, doesn't that help the Broncos in their desire to move down? The Bills might say they want a QB, but they aren't going to tell us which one, so maybe the 49ers or Titans get nervous and move up to 2. I'd be happy to get an extra 2 and a 4, even though it isn't enough on the value chart. Thoughts?

Wow, people really have no life with all this hate mail crap.

Soooo you all obviously took the time to read his entire mock draft, only to critique it? How's about you guys make a mock draft, nevermind i can't even speculate how horrible that would be :]

The Vikes either take a QB in the 1st or they don't take one at until the later rounds again. If they can't get a veteran then Joe Webb is as much of a work in progress as Colin Kaepernick will be, so why not use the guy with game experience and an awesome win against the Eagles? The Vikes like Webb, but realize that he needs time to develop, so if they can't get that franchise signal caller at 12 then they seek a veteran via trade or free agency.

Your just jealous of Ryan cause he has more talent in his pinky than you do in your whole body. That is why your here making stuff up and he is going to be a QB in the NFL....

Ryan Mallett is the kind of person who borrows your lighter at a party and doesn't give it back.
