2010 NFL Draft E-mails - Michael Vick, Myron Rolle, Colt McCoy

What do you think the over/under is on Mike Vick ending up a Viking? Even if Favre decides to come back he's a one year stop-gap at best. The Williams wall isn't getting any younger, and the team is essentially a good QB away from being a contender for the Super Bowl. Does Zygi Wolf decide the baggage on Vick is worth the potential wins he could bring the team?
I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up on the Raiders either if Russell has a crappy season and/or Al Davis simply decides he can't pass up on Vick's athleticism (which would hardly be a shock).
My Response:
I don't know how an owner takes a chance on someone like that in this economy. He could alienate the fan base, and I know if I were a fan of a team with season tickets, I would immediately cancel them if Vick were signed. He's a scumbag and does not deserve another chance. Also, Vick will have been out of football three years by the time he returns. He's not as quick and athletic as he once was, and not being able to study film will put him even further behind the eight ball.
Vick may sign with a team in the future, but I can't see it working out. I actually hope this happens because it'll give me more writing material.

Normally, I agree with you. But on the issue of Myron Rolle, I had to give an opinion.
Myron Rolle left his team for one half of football to interview for the Rhodes Scholarship. It's not the Alvin J. Cox Memorial Scholarship, it's the most prestigious scholastic award any college student can be awarded. Most of his teammates were probably proud of him. Myron Rolle is a remarkable young man with a good chance at changing the world, and probably in a way that will be much more impactful than playing in the NFL. This was a chance to study at Oxford, perhaps the world's greatest modern institute of scholarship.
I just feel like this isn't really abandoning your team, and as I recall, his teammates weren't angry with him.
My Response:
No, they weren't angry with him, but true football guys like Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells look for guys whose top priority is football (after family of course). I recommend reading Patriot Reign. Belichick talks about what he looks for in a player's personality. He said that if he notices that anything comes before football, he automatically disregards him. The Rhodes Scholarship was impressive, but it's going to bother some coaches/GMs that he didn't pursue football first, when he could have just as easily gone back to school after his pro career. Plus, being out of football for a year is going to hurt.

I just read on your site that you don't think Colt McCoy is a first-round prospect. In your opinion, what round should he go in, and do you think he could be a starter at the NFL level?
My Response:
The problem with Colt McCoy is that he doesn't play in a pro-style offense, he doesn't have to make reads and his arm strength is mediocre. I think he could be taken in Round 1 by someone inept like Josh McDaniels, and he could start for that team (although they wouldn't go far in the playoffs, should they even make it at all). As for what round he SHOULD go in, probably Round 4-5ish. That's the earliest I'd consider him.

I was wondering if the Chargers would try out Levi Jones to shore up their right tackle spot with Jeromy Clary's inconsistencies. Or will the Niners take a look, knowing Jones is a good pass protector and with Crabtree it wouldn't hurt to have another lineman on the team? Think he's gonna get a good contract? Minimum one-year contract to prove he deserves money?
My Response:
Those teams might consider him... after all, Marvel Smith is always banged up and he got decent money from the 49ers. Someone will sign Levi Jones to a short-term deal, but I'm not sure that move will work out because he's old and very injury-prone.
