2012 Fantasy Football Draft: Forum Fantasy Auction Mock Draft

Aug. 2, 2012.

This is a 2012 Fantasy Football Auction Mock Draft I took part in with 11 other members of the forum. Unlike my usual fantasy football mock drafts - click the link for the most recent one - I'll be reviewing each team, commenting on the best and worst values.

Just a heads up that we have 2012 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts every Wednesday evening. Check out the fantasy mock draft thread for details.

Team He Hate Me
QB Cam Newton 33
RB Steven Jackson 23
RB Roy Helu 9
WR Miles Austin 19
WR Jordy Nelson 20
TE Jacob Tamme 1
FLEX Willis McGahee 9
D/ST Steelers D/ST 3
K Rob Bironas 1

BE Jonathan Stewart 11
BE Marques Colston 12
BE DeAngelo Williams 7
BE Percy Harvin 18
BE Dwayne Bowe 13
BE James Starks 14
BE Jay Cutler 7
Total: 200
Remaining: 0

Best Fantasy Auction Value: Percy Harvin was a steal for $18. This occurred later on during the auction when most teams had limited funds. Jay Cutler was also a great buy for $7.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: Steven Jackson is wearing down, so Team He Hate Me may regret spending more than 10 percent of his bankroll on him. Then again, Jackson is his RB1 by far.

Team Ragnarok
QB Matthew Stafford 36
RB Chris Johnson 57
RB Adrian Peterson 28
WR Brandon Marshall 30
WR Demaryius Thomas 13
TE Jermichael Finley 13
FLEX David Wilson 6
D/ST Bears D/ST 1
K Matt Prater 2

BE Santonio Holmes 6
BE LeGarrette Blount 1
BE Jacquizz Rodgers 1
BE Mikel Leshoure 1
BE Randall Cobb 1
BE Jonathan Dwyer 2
BE Vincent Brown 2
Total: 200
Remaining: 0

Best Fantasy Auction Value: Demaryius Thomas represents the best value on this team for $13. I also like Randall Cobb as a $1 sleeper.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: Adrian Peterson's September status is very questionable, so I wouldn't spend close to $30 on him. I'd rather have a safer option for that much money.

Team Coke
QB Robert Griffin III 15
RB Fred Jackson 21
RB Ben Tate 9
WR Larry Fitzgerald 40
WR Steve Smith 21
TE Aaron Hernandez 7
FLEX Antonio Brown 16
D/ST Ravens D/ST 3
K Dan Bailey 27

BE Torrey Smith 14
BE Donald Brown 9
BE Daniel Thomas 4
BE Michael Crabtree 4
BE Felix Jones 3
BE Jared Cook 3
BE Greg Olsen 4
Total: 200
Remaining: 0

Best Fantasy Auction Value: The two tight ends here were good bargains, especially Aaron Hernandez, who went for about half as much as Jermichael Finley. I have the two slotted right next each other in my 2012 Fantasy Football Tight End Rankings.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: Robert Griffin, nominated very early, went for the same amount as Tony Romo later in the auction.

Team Bolash
QB Matt Ryan 16
RB Ray Rice 68
RB Michael Turner 20
WR Wes Welker 24
WR DeSean Jackson 11
TE Jimmy Graham 31
FLEX Pierre Garcon 8
D/ST Eagles D/ST 1
K Sebastian Janikowski 3

BE Shane Vereen 5
BE Tony Gonzalez 5
BE Nate Washington 2
BE Alex Smith 2
BE Nate Burleson 1
BE Lions D/ST 2
BE Garrett Hartley 1
Total: 200
Remaining: 0

Best Fantasy Auction Value: Matt Ryan is pretty nice value at $16. Even better is the $11 that Bolash spent on DeSean Jackson.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: I feel like $31 is an unreasonable amount to pay for Jimmy Graham, when guys like Antonio Gates and Jermichael Finley went for less than half of that.

Team Ditka
QB Matt Schaub 8
RB Trent Richardson 36
RB Darren McFadden 34
WR Andre Johnson 36
WR Roddy White 27
TE Jason Witten 13
FLEX Darren Sproles 17
D/ST Jets D/ST 1
K Neil Rackers 1

BE Darrius Heyward-Bey 11
BE Jahvid Best 10
BE Bernard Scott 2
BE Andy Dalton 1
BE Mike Williams 1
BE Carson Palmer 1
BE Matt Flynn 1
Total: 200
Remaining: 0

Best Fantasy Auction Value: Darrius Heyward-Bey is not a starter on this team, but he represents the best value on this very top-heavy roster.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: Ditka spent a ton of money on running backs, but they all carry high risk. Trent Richardson's just a rookie; Darren McFadden is always hurt; and Jahvid best hasn't even been cleared to play. I feel like Ditka should have avoided McFadden and spent the money on two solid players instead.

Team SanchO
QB Tony Romo 15
RB DeMarco Murray 24
RB Matt Forte 35
WR Jeremy Maclin 24
WR Robert Meachem 10
TE Fred Davis 4
FLEX Jamaal Charles 26
D/ST Packers D/ST 1
K Mason Crosby 2

BE Stevan Ridley 13
BE Brandon Lloyd 18
BE Titus Young 7
BE Brent Celek 3
BE Andrew Luck 2
BE Jon Baldwin 5
BE Isaiah Pead 4
Total: 193
Remaining: 7

Best Fantasy Auction Value: Tony Romo for $15 is just flat out robbery. Brandon Lloyd and Brent Celek were also great bargains.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: Sancho paid too much for Matt Forte, who will be losing goal-line carries to Michael Bush this year. However, he finished $7 under the cap, so it's not like he spent his money irresponsibly.

Walter Football
QB Eli Manning 20
RB Doug Martin 20
RB Kevin Smith 6
WR Hakeem Nicks 28
WR A.J. Green 30
TE Antonio Gates 13
FLEX Dez Bryant 22
D/ST Cardinals D/ST 1
K Matt Bryant 15

BE Denarius Moore 8
BE Malcom Floyd 9
BE Tim Tebow 5
BE Toby Gerhart 7
BE Michael Bush 7
BE Alex Green 5
BE Brandon Pettigrew 4
Total: 200
Remaining: 0

My Team: My running backs blow. I know. I like the rest of my team though. My receivers (and flex) are fantastic, and I have the No. 3 fantasy tight end. Eli Manning is a rock-solid quarterback for a good price. My bench is stacked.

Best Fantasy Auction Value: Antonio Gates for $13? I couldn't believe I landed him for that amount. He went for just as much as Jermichael Finley. I also loved obtaining two great bench receivers for a combined $17.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: Matt Bryant for $15!? I was stupid and had money left over, so I just placed it all on Bryant. Some of the people in the auction were being dicks by bumping up $1 kicker bids to $2, so I just said, "screw you" and placed all of my remaining funds on one. Muhahahaha!

In all seriousness, I don't think I have any worst values, but only because I didn't spend enough. I had $14 remaining. D'oh.

Team taft
QB Aaron Rodgers 64
RB Arian Foster 77
RB Mike Tolbert 1
WR Mike Wallace 42
WR Lance Moore 5
TE Dustin Keller 1
FLEX Rueben Randle 1
D/ST Seahawks D/ST 1
K Mike Nugent 1

BE Michael Floyd 1
BE Ryan Fitzpatrick 1
BE Brandon Jacobs 1
BE Kellen Winslow 1
BE Delone Carter 1
BE Plaxico Burress 1
BE Brandon LaFell 1
Total: 200
Remaining: 0

Best Fantasy Auction Value: Getting Ryan Fitzpatrick for $1 was nice.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: Considering that Ray Rice and LeSean McCoy both went for about $60, Taft really overspent for Arian Foster. This, as well as the Mike Wallace purchase, completely destroyed his depth.

DOO DOO junk
QB QB Eagles No. 7 19
RB Frank Gore 19
RB Shonn Greene 11
WR Julio Jones 28
WR Vincent Jackson 16
TE Vernon Davis 16
FLEX Reggie Bush 16
D/ST 49ers D/ST 4
K Stephen Gostkowski 3

BE Peyton Manning 16
BE Beanie Wells 8
BE Eric Decker 14
BE Ben Roethlisberger 9
BE C.J. Spiller 8
BE Anquan Boldin 6
BE Justin Blackmon 3
Total: 196
Remaining: 4

Best Fantasy Auction Value: DOO DOO Junk did a pretty good job filling depth on his roster. Julio Jones, Chris Wells, Eric Decker and C.J. Spiller were all quality buys.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: Reggie Bush for $16? Isn't he just going to get hurt? I also didn't like the $16 on Vernon Davis, considering that Antonio Gates had gone for $13 just before that.

SoCal Swag Killas
QB Philip Rivers 18
RB Ryan Mathews 46
RB Ahmad Bradshaw 25
WR Greg Jennings 36
WR Victor Cruz 26
TE Kyle Rudolph 3
FLEX Steve Johnson 15
D/ST Vikings D/ST 1
K Alex Henery 2

BE Ryan Williams 4
BE Sidney Rice 6
BE Kendall Wright 4
BE Santana Moss 4
BE Greg Little 2
BE Tim Hightower 3
BE Jake Locker 5
Total: 200
Remaining: 0

Best Fantasy Auction Value: Philip Rivers and Steve Johnson are both really good starters obtained for cheap. Santana Moss was also a steal for just $4.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: I'm not convinced that Ryan Mathews can stay healthy, so I feel as though that SoCal Swag Killas spent way too much on him.

Team Abel
QB Tom Brady 49
RB Maurice Jones-Drew 52
RB Marshawn Lynch 29
WR Calvin Johnson 52
WR Kenny Britt 7
TE Owen Daniels 1
FLEX Laurent Robinson 1
D/ST Falcons D/ST 1
K Robbie Gould 1

BE Mario Manningham 1
BE Mike Goodson 1
BE Cedric Benson 1
BE Brian Quick 1
BE Ronnie Brown 1
BE Evan Royster 1
BE Matt Cassel 1
Total: 200
Remaining: 0

Best Fantasy Auction Value: I suppose I would have considered spending more on Tom Brady...

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: Too many expensive players have destroyed Abel's depth. Maurice Jones-Drew is holding out and should not have been purchased for $52. Marshawn Lynch could be suspended, so why use $29 on him?

Team Perrault
QB Drew Brees 34
RB LeSean McCoy 63
RB Isaac Redman 14
WR Reggie Wayne 8
WR Randy Moss 3
TE Rob Gronkowski 36
FLEX BenJarvus Green-Ellis 10
D/ST Texans D/ST 3
K David Akers 2

BE Mark Ingram 11
BE Peyton Hillis 10
BE Josh Freeman 2
BE Pierre Thomas 1
BE Joe Flacco 1
BE Sam Bradford 1
BE Leonard Hankerson 1
Total: 200
Remaining: 0

Best Fantasy Auction Value: There's the money I should have spent. I should have gone after either Isaac Redman, Mark Ingram or BenJarvus Green-Ellis as my RB2 for that amount. You have to love Perrault's running back depth. I'm jealous.

Worst Fantasy Auction Value: There aren't really any bad values, but perhaps Perrault should have spent the $10 he used on Peyton Hillis on some receivers because his wideout depth his awful.

The goal-line isn't Forte's game. His stats were great last year and he had what?...3 or 4 TDs? He is a Darren Sproles, catching out of the backfield player. Forte and Bush will both get their's but Bush won#t hurt Forte.

I agree! Was that a typo that should have been $2? Ridiculous at $27.

It seems like at anytime at all if anyone drafts a running back, you say its a bad pick.

Maybe you're just stupid and that's the reason you're running backs suck in all of your leagues

case in point - last season i drafted on my team Brady, Chris Johnson and Calvin Johnson. that's the same as if i had 3 picks in the 1st round. there's no way to draft those 3 guys in a standard league. i wound up coming in 2nd place. of course i had some horrible guys on my bench but you don't get points for guys who are stuck on your bench, the only points that count are the ones from your starters and you want to make sure you have access to the best starters, not necessarily the best values. do you want me to write articles on auction leagues for you? anthonycasso at gmail.com. send me a note, you shoudln't be giving out auction advice with that team you drafted.

Team Ditka would destroy in a PPR league. that team is ridiculous and thank god he's not in my PPR Auction leage.

having $14 leftover is a waste. for all that leftover money you had you could've got a better backup QB than Tebow or a better RB than Kevin Smith as your RB2. if you aren't left with $0.00 at the end of your auction then you didn't do a good job. you don't win auction leagues by having the best values at every position - you win it by outbidding others to get access to better guys than if you were in a standard league. none of the guys you have on your team would have been picked in the 1st round of a standard draft - you basically drafted your team as if you passed your pick in the first round. if you don't have any of the top 5 guys in any of the QB/RB/WR positions then you basically drafted a team without a 1st round pick. i've been in auction leagues since 1998, take it from a veteran. if you want value than shop at Walmart. if you want to win in an auction league then overpay for top guys.

You run a fantasy site and had 14 mil left at the end of a auction? On top of that your team is a joke, time to finally call it quits on good old walterfootball.

haha most biased thing i've ever read. doo doo junk has the best team followed by ragnarok. your team if this season played out would probably be bottom three if no changes.

Hey Walt, Auction Drafting 101 is to always nominate a kicker in the first round. Duh. You put up a good (not great) kicker with a starting bid of $1. If someone outbids you, then they essentially just wasted $1. If nobody outbids you, then you get your kicker for the minimal price. Don't know why you waited until the end to get your kicker.

Walt, your team isn't that great. The WR depth is great but your RB's blow and that's why you would lose in this league.

SoCal Swag Killas has a very nice lineup there. That team is all around deep, definitely the best of these 12 teams.
