2014 Fantasy Football Rankings - Wide Receivers (Sept. 3):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-40 | 41-60 | 61-95

  1. Calvin Johnson, WR, Lions. Bye: 9.
Calvin Johnson’s yardage mark dropped from 1,964 to 1,492 (albeit in two fewer games), but his touchdown total went up from five to 12. He did all of this while experiencing soreness in his knees. Johnson wasn’t completely healthy in 2013, so expect his numbers to increase if he’s 100 percent next year.

Projected 2014 Fantasy Stats: 101 catches. 1,670 yards. 12 total TDs.
    Projected 2014 Fantasy Points: 239.
Projected 2014 PPR Fantasy Points: 340.

  2. Dez Bryant, WR, Cowboys. Bye: 11.
AUG. 17: Dez Bryant is going to have a monstrous 2014 campaign. He looks outstanding, and the Ravens couldn’t do anything to stop him in their preseason matchup. Bryant caught three passes for 59 yards and a touchdown on just two drives. He also made a great catch while falling out of bounds that was wiped out by a hold. Bryant should’ve also had more yardage, as he was incorrectly whistled down when he really was rolling on top of a defender. He’s the No. 2 fantasy receiver this year.

Dez Bryant was unstoppable down the stretch of the 2012 season, and that carried over into 2013, when he caught 93 passes for 1,233 yards and 13 touchdowns. Bryant scored in each of his final five games of the year. There’s no reason to think his numbers will decline.

Projected 2014 Fantasy Stats: 94 catches. 1,360 yards. 13 total TDs.
    Projected 2014 Fantasy Points: 221.
Projected 2014 PPR Fantasy Points: 315.

  3. A.J. Green, WR, Bengals. Bye: 4.
A.J. Green posted career-high numbers in receptions (98), yards (1,426) and touchdowns (11) in 2013. He’ll continue to be one of fantasy’s best receivers, but it’s a shame that Andy Dalton’s limitations are weighing him down; otherwise, Green would be close to Calvin Johnson territory.

Projected 2014 Fantasy Stats: 95 catches. 1,410 yards. 12 total TDs.
    Projected 2014 Fantasy Points: 220.
Projected 2014 PPR Fantasy Points: 315.

  4. Demaryius Thomas, WR, Broncos. Bye: 4.
AUG. 9: Demaryius Thomas is going to have a huge year. With Eric Decker gone, Thomas will likely receive more targets than he did in 2013. It showed in the preseason debut, as he saw six balls come his way in just two drives. He caught five of them for 52 yards.

I wouldn’t expect Demaryius Thomas to reach 14 touchdowns again, but he’ll continue to serve as a top-five fantasy receiver as long as Peyton Manning is at the helm. Keep in mind that Thomas could see more targets next year with Eric Decker gone. It’s unclear how Emmanuel Sanders will transition into the offense.

Projected 2014 Fantasy Stats: 93 catches. 1,460 yards. 12 total TDs.
    Projected 2014 Fantasy Points: 219.
Projected 2014 PPR Fantasy Points: 312.

  5. Julio Jones, WR, Falcons. Bye: 9.
AUG. 24: Julio Jones was completely dominant in the team’s third preseason game. Though he managed to snag just two of his seven targets – for 63 yards and a touchdown – he also drew a long pass interference downfield. Jones’ score was a thing of beauty, as he caught the ball, broke free from one tackle and spun away from another to find the end zone on the 52-yard play. Ryan overthrew Jones twice on the opening drive; otherwise the stud wideout would’ve had a much greater stat line.

JULY 20: Julio Jones has had issues staying healthy because of his foot in recent years. That may change, as a cutting-edge procedure was done to prevent further injury. Jones, as a consequence, could post monstrous numbers for all 16 games for a change.

Julio Jones was expected to expand on his 79-1,198-10 season in 2012, but a fractured foot put the kibosh on his 2013 campaign. He was impressive when he was on the field, accumulating at least 76 receiving yards in each of his five games. Jones should return back to WR1 form as long as he’s healthy in 2014.

Projected 2014 Fantasy Stats: 90 catches. 1,340 yards. 12 total TDs.
    Projected 2014 Fantasy Points: 213.
Projected 2014 PPR Fantasy Points: 303.

  6. Brandon Marshall, WR, Bears. Bye: 9.
AUG. 21: Brandon Marshall will fly to New York each Tuesday to be a part of Inside the NFL on Showtime this season. This has to sting for Marshall owners. Flying around may not hurt him initially, but the jet lag will add up, and Marshall could have a poor finish to his 2014 season. He’s making a huge mistake, and the Bears can’t be happy.

Alshon Jeffery took major strides in 2013, prompting Brandon Marshall’s catches and receiving yards to drop (118 to 100 and 1,508 and 1,295). His touchdowns increased, however, because the offense as a whole was more efficient. Expect more of the same this upcoming season.

Projected 2014 Fantasy Stats: 98 catches. 1,260 yards. 11 total TDs.
    Projected 2014 Fantasy Points: 199.
Projected 2014 PPR Fantasy Points: 297.

  7. Jordy Nelson, WR, Packers. Bye: 9.
Jordy Nelson caught 85 passes for 1,314 yards and eight touchdowns this past season despite missing Aaron Rodgers for half the year. That’s pretty damn impressive. Nelson will finish the 2014 campaign with WR1 numbers if Rodgers stays on the field.

Projected 2014 Fantasy Stats: 85 catches. 1,320 yards. 10 total TDs.
    Projected 2014 Fantasy Points: 199.
Projected 2014 PPR Fantasy Points: 284.

  8. Alshon Jeffery, WR, Bears. Bye: 9.
Alshon Jeffery made the Pro Bowl in his second year, catching 89 passes for 1,421 yards and seven touchdowns. Those numbers weren’t fluky at all; Jeffery is a legitimate stud who would be a No. 1 receiver on many teams. However, the opposition can’t exactly focus on Jeffery with Brandon Marshall on the other side.

Projected 2014 Fantasy Stats: 87 catches. 1,390 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2014 Fantasy Points: 194.
Projected 2014 PPR Fantasy Points: 281.

  9. Antonio Brown, WR, Steelers. Bye: 12.
Antonio Brown took a huge leap forward in 2013, catching 110 balls for 1,499 yards and eight touchdowns, all while becoming the second player in league history to register at least five receptions in every single game. It’s not realistic to expect Brown to repeat his numbers. He figures to serve as a borderline WR1 this season.

Projected 2014 Fantasy Stats: 101 catches. 1,380 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2014 Fantasy Points: 193.
Projected 2014 PPR Fantasy Points: 294.

  10. Vincent Jackson, WR, Buccaneers. Bye: 7.
AUG. 27: Tampa Bay trading for Logan Mankins will be a boost for Vincent Jackson. Josh McCown will have more time in the pocket, so he’ll have more time to connect with Jackson downfield.

AUG. 24: Vincent Jackson fantasy owners have to be happy with Tampa’s latest game. Jackson caught five balls for 43 yards in just one half of action. The important thing is that Josh McCown looked very capable against a decent defense.

What Vincent Jackson did in 2013 (78 catches, 1,224 yards, 7 TDs) was extremely impressive considering that he had to endure Josh Freeman’s personal problems and a rookie quarterback’s natural struggles. Jackson should be better in 2014 with Josh McCown under center. He’ll also have Mike Evans on the other side of the field to distract defenses a bit.

Projected 2014 Fantasy Stats: 80 catches. 1,310 yards. 9 total TDs.
    Projected 2014 Fantasy Points: 192.
Projected 2014 PPR Fantasy Points: 272.
