Below, you can find various tidbits of NFL Draft rumors and information offered by Mike Mayock, Michael Lombardi and the rest of the Path to the Draft crew on the NFL Network. I posted these in my forum, but I thought it would be better to keep all the draft rumors together in this section. I'll be tweeting these during Path to the Draft at @walterfootball.
Charley Casserly's 2011 NFL Mock Draft 11-20: 11. Prince Amukamara. 12. Corey Liuget. 13. Nate Solder. 14. Aldon Smith. 15. Mark Ingram. 16. Ryan Kerrigan. 17. J.J. Watt. 18. Cameron Jordan. 19. Mike Pouncey. 20. Anthony Castonzo.
Charley Casserly: I held Da'Quan Bowers out because I'm concerned about the medical.
Charley Casserly: I would not take Ryan Mallett or Jake Locker at No. 12. I would make the owner understand that's not the solution.
Charley Casserly: I like Liuget. He's got strength. He can anchor. He's sound. Pat Williams is old and a free agent. Kevin Williams is facing a 4-game suspension. There's no question there's a need at that position.
Charley Casserly: The difference between J.J. Watt and Cameron Jordan - Tyron Smith did a good job blocking Cam Jordan, though J.J. Watt didn't play Tyron Smith.
Steve Wyche: I think the Panthers are close to knowing whom they're going to take - Cam Newton. He can come in and put a face on the franchise.
Steve Wyche: Blaine Gabbert is good, but the Panthers aren't blown away by him. They see a higher ceiling in Cam Newton. They think his upside is pretty special.
Steve Wyche: Steve Smith's future in Carolina is unclear, but he's probably coming back.
Steve Wyche: The Panthers are planning to move on with Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson. DeAngelo Williams will be playing elsewhere.
Charley Casserly: I wouldn't take Cam Newton there. This isn't close between Gabbert and Newton. Gabbert's a good athlete. He can make all the throws. He's a better bet off the field. He made decisions in that spread offense.
Charley Casserly: Blaine Gabbert is a better Joe Flacco. Protect him with the running game, and he'll be a great fit in Carolina.
Bucky Brooks: The Panthers are looking for sizzle. Cam Newton gives them an "it" factor. He's built to play in the offense they're constructing around him.
Charles Davis: The Panthers might look at Da'Quan Bowers and Von Miller (no they won't) though I still have Cam Newton No. 1.
Charley Casserly: If the Panthers can get a quarterback, they can compete right away.
Bucky Brooks: The Panthers can't afford to play it safe because they'll be here again. They'll gamble on upside with Cam Newton.
Charnac the Magnificent predicts Cam Newton's career will mirror Vince Young's.
Charnac the Magnificent predicts Ryan Mallett's career will mirror Ryan Leaf and Jeff George's.
Charnac the Magnificent predicts Jake Locker's career will mirror Kyle Boller's.
Akeem Ayers: I have first-round ability. If you look at the film, you'll see that I have first-round talent.
Bucky Brooks: Christian Ponder is pro-ready. He's smart, tough and accurate. He reminds me of Chad Pennington.
Charley Casserly: Andy Dalton is a third-round talent. He doesn't have a big arm. He's a little off to me in accuracy. Ponder has the edge.
Charley Casserly: I would take Christian Ponder over Jake Locker. Better accuracy, better decision-making.
Bucky Brooks: Brooks Reed is getting a lot of buzz - Green Bay, Buffalo, New England, Baltimore.
Charley Casserly: The Titans could have two premier receivers at No. 8. If one of them is there, they'd be happy to have either one.
Walter your inability to bet the Patriots all year with Brady on the team is inexplicable. Yes, since Brady came back from suspension, you bet the Patriots 0 times, even though they covered as decent and often huge favorites. Why? Why are you more afraid than Goodell is to show up at Foxborough to bet on a great team to beat inferior oponents by a large margin? You lost out on a lot of money. As for the Patriots defense who will be "overwhelmed" by Pittsburgh hahaha, the Patriots defense has stepped up when it needed to. Logan Ryan who is not even the best DB let alone CB on the team just had a dominant game covering one of the best wide receivers in the league. And you're going to say that Brady can't go stride for stride against Big Ben who, with his 0 TD performance last Sunday, once again proved that he has turned into an awful road playoff QB? You know what 0 TDs will win you in the AFC Championship game? I don't believe that betting on Pitt getting 6 points is a bad decision - seeing as I may do the same. But to predict the Patriots to straight up lose is laughable. The advantage they have on defense and coaching is pretty big and they may even be even offensively solely because Brady has been using Edelman more and more and Dion Lewis's return has shown to be very important.
