2015 Senior Bowl: Garrett Grayson Interview

Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson is one of the sleeper prospects for the 2015 NFL Draft. Sources with teams have told us that they really like Grayson and feel that he will rise in the lead up to the draft. One NFC general manager said that he was their favorite to be their third-rated quarterback. We caught up with Grayson at the Senior Bowl to find out which teams were showing interest in him and what he was working on improving for the next level.
Who are some of the teams you’ve met with thus far at the Senior Bowl?
“Cleveland, 49ers, Raiders, Panthers, Texans, Dolphins, quite a few.”
Any team in particular stand out as showing interest to you?
“Nobody has shown too much. They all just wanted to meet and get the interview process started.”
Talk about your senior year and the improvement of your field vision.
“I think everything started to click for me middle of the way through my junior year. I went up and met with Coach McElwain. I went up and met with him and he kind of showed me everything and I kind of picked his brain. That helped me develop as a quarterback, and midway through my junior year, I kind of took off, and I think it translated this year and I had more confidence. As a quarterback, that’s the No. 1 thing is you have to be confident in yourself. Finishing out my junior year the way I did I think helped me prepare and go in the right direction.”
I think the year really got kick started for your team when you led that comeback win over Boston College early in the season. They kind of had you on the ropes before you came storming back. From there, it looked like your offense really took off and hit it’s stride.
“Yeah, I think it gave us all a bunch of confidence. Playing against a power-five team, we know how the outside world looks at us, and doubts us, so to go into that game against a big physical team with some big guys up front and athletic DBs was a big confidence boost. I wish I had the first half back and I wasn’t happy with my performance at all but I was very happy we got the win and it gave us the confidence that we could compete with anyone.”
What are things you’re looking to work on this week with the NFL coaches from the Jaguars’ staff?
“The biggest thing for me is working under center. Early on when I first got to Colorado State, I was under center quite a bit. Then when coach Baldwin took over the offense, I was in the gun about 85 to 90 percent of the time. Everybody knows that if you want to be successful in the NFL, you have to be able to go under center. There were a few times out there today that some throws were low and some sailed on me because I haven’t taken a drop from center in months. That is something I’m definitely honing in on to fix going forward.”
