Debaclation Nation

Welcome to the new Debaclation Nation, a fancy title for this Web site's new poll center.

Each Wednesday, I'll post an interesting (or boring) Debaclation Nation poll so you can vote and argue over it. I'll keep the Debaclation Nation polls archived, so you can go back and keep arguing or see who was right.

Kevin Kolb sucks, he is AJ Feeley 2.0. I really don't get what everyone sees in him.

I fail to understand the hype around Kevin Kolb. The dude's career stat line: 2,082 yards, 11 touchdowns, 17 ints and a completion percentage barely at sixty percent. Orton threw for almost four thousand yards last year and had a touchdown to interception ratio of over two. Easy choice, Kolb is a a ton of question marks. Orton could be a good stop gap solution.

I voted for Orton because if you are talking stats the guy can air it out...Had a great season with Marshall in '09 and I would love to see him go to MIA and pair up again. Hasselbeck certainly does have the best veteran leadership and football IQ of anyone on this poll but would only be a stopgap which is why I like him to Tennessee while Locker grows. Young is arguably the best athlete of this group but absolutely needs discipline to thrive...That is his biggest problem and waste of his talents. I like Kolb to AZ, as does everyone else, but he wont come cheap and it is really getting overhyped by now. Bulger and Young could both do a little something in SEA. I like Smith in SF still but he needs to prove something and Harbaugh should help him do it. As for McNabb, I like him to go to MIN where he can compete with and teach Ponder a few things before he moves on. If MIN pulls a solid vet QB onto the team they have a hope of keeping Rice. I don't care about Volek.

I'm going to assume Billy Volek is a joke, right? If you could have just one I'd certainly prefer Kolb. If I had to give up a first and a third though, I'd rather sign one of the free agents.

Orton is great, as far as I'm concerned, and could step in on a lot of teams and start, and probably thrive. But I actually voted for Vince Young. The dude has all kinds of issues, but I think that if you put him on the right kind of team, with veteran leadership and a hard-nosed coach he would respect (Arizona maybe), he could be a really strong QB for years to come. His win-loss record speaks for itself. Again, he's not the number one guy for most teams, but if you have the right team, he should be the guy to go for.

Kolb might have upside, but Orton has shown he can put up good numbers and win games. Surround him with talent and a coach that doesnt draft Tim Tebow and you could have a winning team. Other than Orton and Kolb, the rest of this list are either stop-gaps, great teachers, place holders, or Vince Young.

I'd always wondered what Matt Hasselbeck could have done in his prime with some real talent at the receiver posistion. I mean come on, this guy made pro bowls with the likes of Darrel Jackson, Bobby Engram and Joe Jurevicsius (sp). It's a shame Seattle never gave him a REAL talent to work with.

Hasselbeck is arguably the best QB on the list, and since he's a free agent, you don't have to sacrifice assets to acquire him. he also knows his role, so if/when it's time for him to hand the reigns over to whatever QB of the future is waiting in the wings, he won't make a fuss about it. Easy choice.

McNabb- skills are clearly diminishing, and you gotta wondering what's goin on between the ears with this guy after being passed over for Kolb and Grossman in consecutive years.

Orton- supposedly would require at least a 2nd or 3rd-round draft pick. any team that'd do that to get him (like Arizona) would be making a near-sighted, bad move just for the sake of becoming mediocre again.

Young- insane, as mentioned earlier, though underrated as a passer IMO and probably the best overall player of the group... could easily lead any of the NFC West teams to the playoffs if he keeps it together.

"I'm pretty shocked by how many votes Vince Young has received."

Vince Young is massively underrated. The head case stuff is an exaggeration (he's certainly no worse than the likes of Roethlisberger). He posted a 98.6 passer rating last season and has a 30-17 overall record. Some team is going to scoop him up and get a bargain.

All the talent in the world doesn't change a game if your offensive scheme is retarded. Alex Smith will light it up this year.

Draho you're wrong. The 49ers have an ultra talented receiver, one of the best running backs and tight ends in the league, and a solid offensive line. If he can't do good with that, he can't do good anywhere. Rodgers is way more talented AND smarter than Alex Smith.

There isn't enough information on this poll. Kevin Kolb is the obvious answer, but if I've got a young, talented QB on my roster, I wouldn't want to trade for him, I'd rather go after Bulger, Hasselbeck, or Orton to lead the team for a year or two before said youngster is ready to take over.

Why isn't Carson Palmer on this list?

Kolb is the only one on the list with any sort of decent upside (unless you think Young can actually become not crazy).

It looks like I'm one of 5 people to vote for Alex Smith. I think if given a real chance, he's an above average QB. And by 'chance', I mean having a consistent offensive scheme with some talent around him and without having to look over his shoulder.

If the Packers drafted Smith & the 49ers drafted Rodgers, Rodgers' name would be on this list.
