Debaclation Nation

Welcome to the new Debaclation Nation, a fancy title for this Web site's new poll center.
Each Wednesday, I'll post an interesting (or boring) Debaclation Nation poll so you can vote and argue over it. I'll keep the Debaclation Nation polls archived, so you can go back and keep arguing or see who was right. Gil Brandt said that Cam Newton should be the No. 1 overall pick. Personally, I think it's beyond ridiculous to compare Newton to Russell or Michael Vick. The only thing they have in common is they're both black and they're both quarterbacks. And to already assume that he will end up in jail at some point in his life is beyond racism. Not on purpose, maybe, but some people have been laid with an underlying, subconscious sense of racism their entire lives and accidentally let it be known with unintelligent, ignorant comments like those of Mr. "Steeb". And BTW, Newton actually knows how to speak Enlgish and has a really good work ethic, so I doubt he'll turn out anything like Mr. Skittles.

What team would give Cam Newton the best chance to flourish?

out of league in a few years, doing his time in some facility, and hopefully (if he's as smart as Vick) will turn his life around and maybe do better the second time through.

I think his most recent comment about being an "entertainer & icon" has solidified his descent into bust status. The comment is consistent with his issues with his father and his posse so it's not a stretch to believe that he already thinks he's made it. Nobody's future is written but if he continues down this path I can guarantee he'll be out of the league in 3-4 years wondering what happened.

People bash Cam Newton, but look at how Michael Vick has succeeded. Newton is easily a better passer and isn't that much worse on the ground. They seem similar, intelligence wise, so how come everybody thinks he will fail. He clearly doesn't have the emotional issues that VY has.

I agree with classic silver and black. He will probable have a career like Daunte Culpepper. With his athleticism and just on his name he should be able to make a pro bowl or two. Also like Culpepper i think his career will be broken if he doesn't have a star or any sort of help, like Culpepper had with Randy Moss. Once Moss and Culpepper were seperated Culpepper had injuries and declined. I think Newton will be same way.

I expect him to have the kind of NFL career that Daunte Culpepper has had, hopefully without the injures that cut short DC's career.
He can become a solid franchise QB for a team that builds its system around him, with a couple of stellar seasons thrown in the middle.

Blaine Gabbert is more likely to eat himself out of the league.. he is the white captain oreos or stuff... i think newton can be compared to the early steve mcnair.. maybe a little bit faster and with a bigger arm... i think he could be as succesfull as mcnair was...

Does Jamarcus Russell ring any bells. Just like Russell, Newton has a rocket arm, questionable accuracy, and played in a "college style 1 read system". I think Newton would do better than Russell because of the playmaking ability on the ground, but will not be all that successful in a system that doesn't adjust to his talents. Throwing Cam Newton in the Patriots passing spread attack style without any adjustment, then Newton is a flop, but if a team like Buffalo or Carolina who is willing to think outside the box, and Newton could be a real weapon.

Really wish it were possible at this point for Cam to go to (crazy idea) the Eagles. Think about what Andy Reid did for Michael Vick. Cam has all the tools, he'd be hell on this league if he had a real coach. If he goes to Buffalo, he'll probably be a bust.

I think he's going to be pretty good, but it's going to take a while. I think once he transitions to a true pro style offense, he'll be pretty good, but that could take time. Give him three years or so. It's not like wherever he goes is going to be trying to win now...

First comment... we're going to have comment boards like this all over the site soon. We're still working out the kinks, so this is not the finished product.
