2011 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Josh Selby


Position: Point Guard

Size: 6-3, 194

School: Kansas, Freshman


Strengths:

Explosive athlete

High riser at the rim

Strong finisher

Three-point shooter

Catch and shoot ability; terrific rhythm shooter

Free throw shooting

Quick first step

Vision on the break

Speed in the open floor

Solid rebounding guard

Active defender



Weaknesses:

Learning to become a true point guard

Undersized to be an NBA shooting guard

Turnover prone

Sometimes too reckless in getting to the basket

Experience

Summary: Josh Selby suffered through a disappointing freshman season at Kansas which really hurt his NBA Draft stock. However, he has re-gained his mojo a bit during draft workouts and showed teams the potential that he possesses. There are still questions about position he will play at the next level and it may take him a year or two to find his niche, but he should be taken in the mid-teens to early 20s.

Player Comparison: Randy Foye. Foye is a combo guard with great athleticism who has yet to truly find his role in the NBA. He has not been effective enough as a true point guard, but is an undersized two guard. Selby has many of the same skills as Foye and faces the same challenge of figuring out which position he will play.
