  1. Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska Scouting Report
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 307.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.00.
    Combine 40 Time: 4.98.
    Benchx225: 32. Vertical: 35.5.
Projected Round (2009): Top 3 Pick.

1/24/10: Ndamukong Suh dominated the Big XII Championship, and finished the year with 20.5 TFL and 12 sacks. He also broke up 10 passes and blocked three kicks. But let’s cool the Reggie White comparisons; at 300 pounds, White ran a 4.6 40 from the defensive end position. Suh reminds me more of a Cortez Kennedy. He’s the best player in the 2010 NFL Draft, but it was be a gargantuan mistake for the Rams to draft him No. 1 overall with no franchise quarterback in place.

11/20/09: A good fit for both the 4-3 and 3-4, Ndamukong Suh has 56 tackles, 11 TFL, five sacks and eight passes broken up in 10 games as a senior. He’s almost a lock to go to the Buccaneers.

2/14/09: A monster up front for Nebraska, Ndamukong Suh notched 76 tackles, 16.5 TFL and 7.5 sacks in 2008. He also blocked two kicks and returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns.

8/1/08: Ndamukong Suh had a solid sophomore campaign (11 starts, six tackles for loss), but is coming off knee surgery.

  2. Gerald McCoy, Oklahoma Scouting Report
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 298.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.01.
    Combine 40 Time: 4.96.
    Benchx225: 23. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2010): Top 3 Pick.

1/3/10: Gerald McCoy has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. McCoy can play both the 4-3 and 3-4, and is considered to be a top-five lock.

11/20/09: A 4-3 under tackle and a 3-4 end, Gerald McCoy has 26 tackles, 13.5 TFL and four sacks in 10 games.

1/10/09: I’ve only listed Gerald McCoy in the 2010 rankings because I never thought he’d declare as a redshirt sophomore, but he’s worth noting after he picked off a Tim Tebow pass in the UPS title game. Gerald McCoy dominated with 10 TFL and 6.5 sacks in 2008, qualifying for the AP All-America Second Team.

8/1/08: Named the Big XII Freshman of the Year, Gerald McCoy started every game for Oklahoma. In two games against Missouri, McCoy had three tackles for loss and a sack.

  3. Dan Williams, Tennessee Scouting Report
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 327.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.25.
    Combine 40 Time: 5.17.
    Benchx225: 27. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): Top 15 Pick.

11/28/09: Dominant at the line of scrimmage this season, Dan Williams has 56 tackles, 8.5 TFL and two sacks in 11 games. With more teams switching to the 3-4, nose tackles are in high demand, so Williams could sneak into the first round.

2/14/09: Dan Williams registered 48 tackle, 8.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks in 2008.

8/1/08: Dan Williams started 10 games as a sophomore, and collected 40 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.

  4. Jared Odrick, Penn State – Scouting Report
    Height: 6-5. Weight: 304.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.09.
    Combine 40 Time: 4.98.
    Benchx225: 26. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2010): Top 25 Pick.

11/28/09: Jared Odrick has been great this year, racking up 41 tackles, 10 TFL and six sacks. He has first-round talent, but will likely go in Round 2 because of an arrest back in March.

2/14/09: Rebounding off a season-ending ankle injury in a big way, registering 41 tackles, 9.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks and three passes broken up. He qualified for the All-Big Ten First Team.

8/1/08: Jared Odrick was a consistent force in Penn State’s starting lineup last season until he suffered a season-ending ankle injury. He managed four tackles for loss and two sacks.

  5. Brian Price, UCLA – Scouting Report
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 303.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.05.
    Combine 40 Time: 5.13.
    Benchx225: 34. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2010): Top 32 Pick.

1/3/10: Brian Price has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Price just had an amazing junior campaign, so even though he’s just 21 in April, coming out early and striking while the iron’s hot was the right move.

11/20/09: A 4-3 under tackle only, Brian Price has 16.5 TFL and five sacks in 10 games as a junior.

5/19/09: Despite being a sophomore, Brian Price recorded 14.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks.

  6. Terrence Cody, Alabama Scouting Report
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 349.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.50.
    Combine 40 Time: 5.64.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 5.62.
    Benchx225: 22. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 1-2.

3/10/10: Terrence Cody trimmed yet another five pounds off his massive figure, weighing in at 349 pounds at his Pro Day. So much for not being able to control his weight.

2/28/10: After showing up to the Senior Bowl in the 370s, Terrence Cody slimmed down and weighed in at 354 at the Combine. It might be easy for someone as large as Cody to drop a few pounds, but the fact remains that he did what he was supposed to do, while others like Greg Hardy and Andre Smith (a year ago) didn’t put any effort into being in shape for this job interview.

1/26/10: Terrence Cody weighed in at 370 at the Senior Bowl. This is a concern, but with quality nose tackles being so rare, Cody still has a shot at the first round.

11/20/09: Did a great job losing some weight this year and has shown more effort on the field. He’s likely the only stud nose tackle who will be available this offseason, so even though he’s only a two-down player, he’ll be a hot commodity.

11/23/08: Terrence Cody said he’s not declaring early, but once he discovers that he has a great shot at being drafted in the top 15, he could reconsider. Cody is a monstrous run-stuffer and should be a Kris Jenkins-like difference-maker at the next level.

  7. Linval Joseph, East Carolina
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 319.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.27.
    Combine 40 Time: 5.09.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 4.93.
    Benchx225: 39. Vertical: 31.5.
    Projected Round (2009): 1-2.

3/2/10: I know 40 times don’t mean much for nose tackles, but a 5.09 at 328 pounds is damn impressive. Also, 39 reps shows that Joseph is in good shape.

1/24/10: Linval Joseph has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Joseph had 60 tackles, 13 TFL and three sacks as a junior.

  8. Geno Atkins, Georgia
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 293.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.94.
    Combine 40 Time: 4.75.
    Benchx225: 34. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 2.

3/2/10: Geno Atkins is having a very strong NFL Draft preseason. After an impressive Senior Bowl, Atkins ran a 4.75 at 293 pounds at the Combine. He also benched 34 reps.

1/31/10: Geno Atkins was unblockable in the Senior Bowl. He constantly put pressure on the opposing quarterbacks, senselessly beating Mike Iupati on numerous occasions.

11/28/09: Improved upon his 2008 numbers; had 29 tackels, 8.5 TFL and two sacks in 11 games.

11/23/08: It looks like Geno Atkins will be back for another year. Atkins has no sacks this year and just 6.5 TFL.

8/1/08: A terror for opposing quarterbacks, Geno Atkins notched 7.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss as a sophomore. His 40 will have GMs and scouts salivating at the combine.

  9. Cam Thomas, North Carolina
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 330.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.14.
    Combine 40 Time: 5.27.
    Benchx225: 31. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2009): 2-3.

1/31/10: Cam Thomas had a great Senior Bowl performance, prompting Mike Mayock to say that Thomas may not escape out of the second round.

1/28/10: In a weak nose tackle draft, the rankings can be pretty fluid. With a great week, Cam Thomas may have established himself as the No. 3 nose in the 2010 NFL Draft. Details available in the 2010 Senior Bowl section.

    1/26/10: Had 23 tackles and 2.5 TFL.

  10. Tyson Alualu, California
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 294.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.92.
    Combine 40 Time: 4.87.
    Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
    Benchx225: 24. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2009): 2-3.

1/24/10: Finished a productive senior season with 10.5 TFL, 7.5 sacks and four passes broken up.

11/15/09: Has an advantage over prospective 3-4 ends in this draft because he plays the position in Cal’s 3-4 defense. Can also play defensive tackle in the 4-3.

2/14/09: Improved his ability to get to the quarterback, managing 11 TFL and six sacks in 2008.

8/1/08: Will play 3-4 end in the NFL. Tyson Alualu had 52 tackles and 2.5 sacks last year.

  11. Lamarr Houston, Texas
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 305.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.02.
    Combine 40 Time: 4.85.
    Benchx225: 30. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 2-3.

11/28/09: Having a monster year for the Longhorns with 37 tackles, 13.5 TFL and five sacks in 11 games.

2/12/09: Accumulated six TFL and 1.5 TFL in 2008.

7/30/08: Lamarr Houston started 11 games as a sophomore. While his bread and butter is stopping the run, Houston pitched in with 12 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He also registered 66 total tackles. Houston was an All-Big XII honorable mention.

  12. Torrell Troup, Central Florida
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 314.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.34.
    Combine 40 Time: 5.10.
    Benchx225: 34. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

1/24/10: A member of the All-Conference USA Second Team, Torrell Troup has moved into the No. 3 nose tackle slot behind Dan Williams and Terrence Cody. Troup dominated the opposition during East-West Shrine practices.

11/28/09: Has 27 tackles, five TFL and two sacks in 11 games. Some 3-4 team needing nose tackle depth will take him late.

2/14/09: A member of the All-Conference USA Second Team, Torrell Troup registered 52 tackles, 12.5 TFL and two sacks.

  13. D’Anthony Smith, Louisiana Tech
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 304.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.04.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 5.01.
    Benchx225: 30. Vertical: 35.5.
    Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

    1/24/10: Had 51 tackles, 5.5 TFL and 3.5 sacks in 2009. A 4-3 under tackle only.

2/14/09: Qualified for the All-WAC First Team, thanks to 65 tackles, eight TFL, five sacks and three passes broken up.

8/1/08: D’Anthony Smith started 11 games as a sophomore. He had 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. As a freshman, he was in the opening lineup eight times.

  14. Arthur Jones, Syracuse
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 301.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.06.
    Combine 40 Time: .
    Benchx225: . Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2009): 4-5.

11/20/09: His season is over after nine games (6.5 TFL). Arthur Jones just had knee surgery.

2/14/09: An All-Big East first-teamer, Arthur Jones managed 60 tackles, 13 TFL and 3.5 sacks. Perhaps the top 3-4 end prospect in 2010.

8/1/08: Arthur Jones had 17.5 tackles for loss, which is a really impressive number. That earned him a spot on the All-Big East second team.

  15. Mike Neal, Purdue
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 294.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.92.
    Combine 40 Time: 4.86.
    Benchx225: 31. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

11/28/09: An All-Big Ten honorable mention, Mike Neal had 34 tackles, 11.5 TFL and 5.5 sacks in 2009. His versatility certainly helps his draft stock.

  16. Jeff Owens, Georgia
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 304.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.98.
    Combine 40 Time: 4.97.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 4.88.
    Benchx225: 44. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

1/24/10: Didn’t bounce back well off his knee injury; had 32 tackles, 3.5 TFL and a sack this year.

2/14/09: Suffered a torn ACL in the 2008 season opener.

5/9/08: A quick under tackle with speed who can get to the quarterback. Putting up 525 pounds ain’t bad either.

2007: Jeff Owens may be the smaller of the two Georga defensive tackles, but don’t underestimate his strength; Owens can bench more than 525 pounds.

  17. Earl Mitchell, Arizona
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 294.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.88.
    Combine 40 Time: 4.70.
    Benchx225: 25. Vertical: 33.
    Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

    1/24/10: A 4-3 under tackle only, Earl Mitchell had 48 tackles, 12.5 TFL and 6.5 sacks in 2009. A converted H-back.

  18. Corey Peters, Kentucky
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 301.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.97.
    Combine 40 Time: 5.02.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 4.90.
    Benchx225: 26. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

3/10/10: Corey Peters ran an impressive 4.90 at his Pro Day. He also posted 26 reps of 225. He solidified his early-mid Day 3 status. 11/28/09: Having a solid senior campaign for the Wildcats with 49 tackles, 11 TFL and four sacks.

  19. Vince Oghobaase, Duke
    Height: 6-5. Weight: 303.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.11.
    Combine 40 Time: 5.43.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 5.29.
    Benchx225: 27. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

11/28/09: A disappointing senior season. Has 6.5 TFL and 2.5 sacks. He’s been inconsistent when he’s been in the lineup. Of course, missing four games hurts as well.

2/14/09: An All-ACC honorable mention, Vince Oghobaase collected 51 tackles, nine TFL and six sacks as a junior.

    MISSING

  20. Jay Ross, East Carolina

    Pro Day 40 Time: 4.99.
    Benchx225: 30. Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2009): 6-7.

4/2/10: Has lost a ton of weight over the past few months. No longer a nose tackle prospect.

1/24/10: Finished the year with 4.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks. Your basic mid-round nose tackle.

11/28/09: Has 35 tackles, three TFL, 1.5 sacks and a 49-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Jay Ross didn’t look too bad running that one back on national TV.

2/14/09: Once again an All-Conference USA honorable mention, Jay Ross accumulated 48 tackles, 9.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks.

8/1/08: Jay Ross started 12 of East Carolina’s 13 games as a sophomore. He registered 38 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks, earning himself a spot on the All-Conference USA honorable mention list.

  21. Nate Collins, Virginia
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 290.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.10.
    Combine 40 Time: .
    Benchx225: . Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

1/24/10: Had a whopping 77 tackles, 10.5 TFL and six sacks as a senior.

  22. Ricardo Mathews, Cincinnati
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 290.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.94.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 4.80.
    Benchx225: 26. Vertical: 31.5.
    Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

1/24/10: A one-year starter, Ricardo Mathews made the All-Big East Second Team. He finished the year with 12.5 TFL and 3.5 sacks.

11/28/09: One of the “unknowns” who stepped up for Cincinnati this year, Ricardo Mathews has 36 tackles, 9.5 TFL and 3.5 sacks in 2009.

  23. Ekom Udofia, Stanford
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 315.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.12.
    Combine 40 Time: .
    Benchx225: . Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2009): 6-7.

1/24/10: Hobbled by an ankle injury all year, Ekom Udofia had 36 tackles and 1.5 TFL. Should be a solid reserve nose tackle in the NFL.

2/14/09: Playing nose tackle for the Cardinal, Ekom Udofia had 29 tackles and a TFL.

8/1/08: A mammoth of a defensive tackle who contributed in a rotational role last year. He had to miss the final portion of the 2007 campaign with a fractured ankle. In 2006, Udofia was named to the Freshman All-American third team.

  24. Brandon Deaderick, Alabama
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 314.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.05.
    Combine 40 Time: .
    Benchx225: . Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

1/24/10: Didn’t do much this year (23 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 1 sack), but Brandon Deaderick has one heck of an excuse – he was shot in the arm in a robbery attempt in September.

  25. Malcolm Sheppard, Arkansas
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 280.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.89.
    Combine 40 Time: 5.09.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 5.04.
    Benchx225: 24. Vertical: 30.
    Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

1/24/10: Had 32 tackles, 10 TFL and three sacks this season.

    2/12/09: An All-SEC second-teamer, Malcolm Sheppard had 16 TFL and 7.5 sacks in 2008.

  26. Kade Weston, Georgia
    Height: 6-5. Weight: 320.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.05.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 4.97.
    Benchx225: . Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.

1/24/10: Solid numbers for a nose tackle: 28 tackles, six TFL and two sacks.

2/14/09: In 10 games, Kade Weston managed 18 tackles and 3.5 TFL.

8/1/08: A huge defensive tackle who made five starts and registered 6.5 tackles for loss. Kade Weston had six starts as a freshman as well.

  27. Boo Robinson, Wake Forest
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 295.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.11.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 5.00.
    Benchx225: 33. Vertical: 27.5.
    Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.

1/24/10: Lost a ton of weight over the years, so you know he has a solid work ethic. Unfortunately, his numbers (37 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 0.5 sacks) don’t translate.

2/14/09: A monstrous nose tackle who compiled six TFL and five sacks. Somehow just an All-ACC honorable mention.

8/1/08: Boo Robinson started every game for Wake Forest in 2007. He had 23 tackles.

  28. Mick Williams, Pittsburgh
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 280.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.89.
    Combine 40 Time: .
    Benchx225: . Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.

1/24/10: You’ll get noticed when you have 17 TFL and six sacks as a defensive tackle, but Mick Williams’ size will scare teams away.

11/28/09: A 4-3 under tackle who can really get after the quarterback, Mick Williams has 13 TFL and four sacks in nine games this season.

2/14/09: Mick Williams continued to improve at his new position, registering 8.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks and four passes broken up.

8/1/08: A former fullback in high school, the athletic Mick Williams started seven games as a sophomore, recording eight tackles for loss and three sacks.

  29. Swanson Miller, Oklahoma State
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 300.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.05.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 5.20.
    Benchx225: 22. Vertical: 27.
    Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.

1/24/10: Had 24 tackles, 3.5 TFL and three sacks as a senior.

2/14/09: In his first season as a Cowboy, Swanson Miller managed 17 tackles and two TFL.

8/1/08: One of the most highly recruited JUCO defensive tackles last season.

  30. Al Woods, LSU
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 307.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.12.
    Combine 40 Time: 5.12.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 4.98.
    Benchx225: 23. Vertical: 37.
    Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.

    1/24/10: Rebounded with a half-decent senior campaign (33 tackles, 5.5 TFL).

2/14/09: Limited by a leg injury, Al Woods had just 11 tackles on the year.

5/9/08: Al Woods finally got his first start in October and he’ll have more opportunities with Glenn Dorsey headed to Kansas City. He’ll have to put his size and strength together and become a force on LSU’s defensive line.

  31. David Howard, Brown
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 293.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.13.
    Pro Day 40 Time: 5.03.
    Benchx225: 27. Vertical: 32.
    Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.

  32. Alan-Michael Cash, N.C. State
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 288.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.02
    Combine 40 Time: .
    Benchx225: . Vertical: .
    Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
