I’m going to use these rankings as the order for my 2026 NFL Mock Draft during the early stages of the 2025 season. Follow @walterfootball.
NFL Power Rankings updated Oct. 14, 2025
-
Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) – Previously: 4.
So, I guess the Chiefs are OK. It turns out that having the best head coach and the best quarterback prevents a team from having a total collapse following a slow start.
If you haven’t visited the site in a while, you may have noticed the new look. Yes, after nearly two decades, we’ve finally re-designed our site to be more modern. This was not done on a whim, but rather out of necessity because of what occurred during the 2023 NFL Draft. Our site crashed during the entire first day of the draft, which was disastrous for our revenue stream because we make more money during the draft than any other time. The site crashed because a line of code conflicted with the old format of the site, so we had to transition to this new look.
Because we lost so much money during the draft, I want to point out that you can really help support the site by paying for the ad-free version of it. It’s $7.99 per month, but you’ll get a super-fast site with no ads. My developer will be adding new features to paid subscribers as well, so look for that in the near future. If you don’t want to pay, please spread the word about the site through word of mouth. That would also be a big help!
-
Buffalo Bills (4-2) – Previously: 1.
The Bills have dropped out of the No. 1 spot, and I’m not even sure that’s enough of a fall. They haven’t played a good game since Week 2. In fact, they’ve played just five good quarters all year! However, they’ll be better once they get back Matt Milano and DaQuan Jones, who got hurt in warmups ahead of the Atlanta game.
-
Detroit Lions (4-2) – Previously: 3.
The Lions are literally the best in the NFL right now. Sure, they can lose half their offensive line, including their Pro Bowl center, and both of their coordinators, but it doesn’t matter because they’re just going to go 15-2 again.
Detroit somehow lost to Kansas City. The public learned a lesson after throwing tons of money on the Lions. The lesson? Look at the injury report before betting on a team, because Detroit was down a million defensive backs.
-
Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) – Previously: 2.
Congratulations to the Eagles for putting forth no effort in the loss to the Giants. Jalen Hurts quite literally looked like he was playing in slow motion the whole game. I’d say it was my stream, but Jaxson Dart looked normal.
-
Los Angeles Rams (4-2) – Previously: 5.
The Rams would be 5-1 if they didn’t have that ridiculous second-half collapse in Philadelphia. Remember, they outgained the Eagles, 356-288, and averaged nearly one more yard per play. They blew a 26-7 lead with a fourth-and-1 stuff and a missed field goal, but they still had a chance with a game-winning kick, but it was blocked.
Los Angeles had a miserable first half against the Ravens. It was Murphy’s Law for them, but all of their misfortunes completely reversed after intermission.
-
Indianapolis Colts (5-1) – Previously: 9.
The Colts had a great win, but they have to know that they could be 6-0 right now if Adonai Mitchell didn’t pull a Jonathan Taylor by dropping the ball shy of the goal line. Then again, the Colts also could have lost to the Broncos, so maybe they really should be 5-1. Still, the Colts continue to impress, looking like the clear-cut best team in the AFC South.
-
Green Bay Packers (3-1-1) – Previously: 6.
The good news for the Packers is that they won a game for the first time since Week 2. The bad news is that their overrated defense once again disappointed. They were very close to losing outright to Joe Flacco, which does not bode well against real quarterbacks in future matchups.
-
Atlanta Falcons (3-2) – Previously: 17.
This might be controversial, but I’m moving the Falcons into Group B. If you remove the Carolina game, which was a case of a team being a no-show, the Falcons are 3-1 with their sole loss being in the final seconds versus the Buccaneers in a game that the Falcons outgained Tampa Bay by about 100 yards. Atlanta has the No. 1 EPA defense and one of the top rushing attacks in the NFL. Their dominant win over the Bills was impressive.
-
Washington Redskins (3-3) – Previously: 7.
I thought Jayden Daniels would be rusty in his first game back from his knee injury, but after a slow start, he looked like his usual, amazing self. Daniels nearly led his team to a victory over the Bears to improve to 4-2, but sloppy mistakes did in the Redskins.
-
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-1) – Previously: 11.
I thought about moving the Buccaneers into the Group B tier, but then I recalled their injuries and couldn’t do it. Also, their five wins have come against four Group C teams and one Group F teams. The one time they went above their weight class was the loss to the Eagles, who haven’t won since playing in Tampa.
-
Seattle Seahawks (4-2) – Previously: 12.
The Seahawks defeated a bad team (Steelers), a horrible team (Saints), and a mediocre team (Cardinals) during their three-game winning streak, so it’s fair to be skeptical thus far. They won in Jacksonville, but I also viewed the Jaguars being mediocre (Group C) in these power rankings, despite Jacksonville’s 4-1 record.
-
New England Patriots (4-2) – Previously: 13.
The Patriots are for real, as evidenced by their outright win in Buffalo. They would be 5-1 right now if they didn’t blow the Pittsburgh game with all of their stupid fumbles. It’s amazing how much of a difference great coaching makes, as Mike Vrabel has made all the right non-TreVeyon Henderson moves thus far.
-
Denver Broncos (4-2) – Previously: 8.
It’s hard to take the Broncos seriously after their dreadful performance against the Jets. Their defense was awesome, but the team made so many mistakes. It’s worth noting that three of Denver’s four wins have come against Group F teams.
-
San Angeles Chargers (4-2) – Previously: 10.
The Chargers looked like the real deal at 3-0, with victories over the Chiefs and Broncos. However, losing Joe Alt for an extended period of time could completely derail their season with Rashawn Slater already sidelined. Alt should be back at some point, but the Chargers were so close to losing to the horrible Dolphins after blowing a 26-13 lead.
-
Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2) – Previously: 14.
If the Jaguars didn’t blow their lead against the Jake Browning-led Bengals, they’d be 5-1 right now. That’s great and all, but three of their wins have come against teams in Group F, D, and C. That’s an indication that they are overrated.
-
Minnesota Vikings (3-2) – Previously: 15.
The Vikings couldn’t really be penalized for their loss in Ireland because they lost two offensive linemen early in the game and didn’t have Andrew Van Ginkel. Plus, international games can’t be taken seriously. The Vikings bounced back the following week. It was against the Browns, but they still didn’t have Van Ginkel or their offensive linemen.
-
Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) – Previously: 18.
The Steelers are 4-1, but it must be noted that they haven’t battled any team better than Group C just yet. They’ve gone against three Group C teams and two Group D opponents.
-
Chicago Bears (3-2) – Previously: 20.
The Bears were given up for dead after starting 0-2. They’re now 3-2, but there should be some skepticism regarding this record. The Bears took advantage of the CeeDee Lamb injury and then were outgained by a mile against the Raiders, but were able to win because Geno Smith self-destructed. They won at Washington, but the Redskins made numerous mistakes.
-
San Francisco 49ers (4-2) – Previously: 16.
The 49ers are 4-2, but don’t have much of a chance of making a playoff run with Fred Warner and Nick Bosa missing from the defense. On the bright side, it sounds like George Kittle will be back next week. San Francisco also has a very easy schedule moving forward.
-
Arizona Cardinals (2-4) – Previously: 19.
The Cardinals are a wussy organization for fining their head coach for yelling at Emari Demercado, so it was nice to see them lose to the Colts in the Battle of the Ball Droppers.
-
Houston Texans (2-3) – Previously: 23.
The Texans have won two in a row, and they scored 44 points on Baltimore’s great defense. I guess they don’t miss Laremy Tunsil after all!
And no, don’t take what I just said seriously.
-
Dallas Cowboys (2-3-1) – Previously: 21.
The Cowboys had a chance to keep some great momentum going with three consecutive non-losses. Instead, they’ll have to live the rest of their lives knowing that they lost at Carolina. The defense continues to be woeful.
-
New York Giants (2-4) – Previously: 26.
Jaxson Dart continued to look great. Converting 11-of-15 third downs against the Eagles was incredible, even if Philadelphia didn’t have Jalen Carter or Quinyon Mitchell. It’s truly astonishing that the Giants lost to the Saints and then beat the Eagles by three scores, but that’s football for you.
-
Cleveland Browns (1-5) – Previously: 22.
It’s unclear why the Browns didn’t take a bye after their stupid international game. They instead were put in a terrible spot in their third-consecutive game away from home at Pittsburgh. I don’t think it would have made a difference because Dillon Gabriel isn’t a real NFL quarterback, but why not just take the bye?
-
Carolina Panthers (3-3) – Previously: 27.
Somehow, some way, the Panthers are now 3-3. They’ve established that they’re not a Group F team in the NFL anymore, despite how bad they are defensively. They’re a little bit better than Group F.
-
Las Vegas Raiders (2-4) – Previously: 25.
There’s not much to say about the Raiders, so let’s point out that Pete Carroll likely rigged the Ashton Jeanty prop market by sitting Jeanty in the fourth quarter when he was at 75 rushing yards. His prop was at 75.5. This makes me want to never bet props again.
-
Cincinnati Bengals (2-4) – Previously: 28.
The Bengals might have been the worst 2-0 team we had seen in a long time. They were outgained by about 200 yards versus the Browns in Week 1, and they trailed for most of the afternoon against the Jaguars. Now, without Joe Burrow, this is very little hope. Joe Flacco looked better than Jake Browning, but he’s 40 and decrepit, so he’s bound to regress.
-
Baltimore Ravens (1-5) – Previously: 24.
The Ravens are limping into their bye at 1-5, but they should be a new team following their idle week. They’ll have Lamar Jackson and several other players back from injury, so they could still win the division.
-
Miami Dolphins (1-5) – Previously: 29.
The Dolphins’ only win is hard to take seriously because they recovered all five fumbles in the game against the Jets. They then blew a 17-0 lead against the Panthers. Not good!
-
New Orleans Saints (1-5) – Previously: 31.
The Saints went back to their losing ways, but will need help from the Jets winning a game to have a chance to land the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Despite Spencer Rattler’s improvement, the goal will be to obtain a new quarterback, as you can see here in my 2026 NFL Mock Draft.
-
New York Jets (0-6) – Previously: 30.
The Jets are now 0-6, but a new possibility has emerged to be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Here’s my 2026 NFL Mock Draft.
New York averaged a laughable 1.4 yards per carry against Denver. That means they couldn’t reliably get a first down if given six opportunities. It’s 6th-and-2, what do we do!?
-
Tennessee Titans (1-5) – Previously: 32.
The Titans are 1-5, but they’ve played against the Broncos, Rams, and Colts, three teams listed in Group B. They beat a Group C team, though they needed a lot of luck to do that. They then went back to their losing ways against the Raiders, as Maxx Crosby dominated Tennessee’s poor offensive line.
Group A:
Group B:
Group C:
Group D:
Group F:
2025 NFL MVP Projection:
1. Patrick Mahomes, QB, Chiefs
2. Josh Allen, QB, Bills
3. Baker Mayfield, QB, Buccaneers
4. Jonathan Taylor, RB, Colts
5. Drake Maye, QB, Patriots
