I’m going to use these rankings as the order for my 2026 NFL Mock Draft during the early stages of the 2025 season. Follow @walterfootball.
NFL Power Rankings updated Sept. 15, 2025
-
Baltimore Ravens (1-1) – Previously: 1.
Yes, the Ravens are No. 1 in these NFL power rankings despite losing to Buffalo. They absolutely dominated the Bills for 55 minutes. If they replay that game 10 times, I’m confident Baltimore wins the majority of the iterations. I still can’t believe that Derrick Henry coughed up the ball. We were robbed of two units.
If you haven’t visited the site in a while, you may have noticed the new look. Yes, after nearly two decades, we’ve finally re-designed our site to be more modern. This was not done on a whim, but rather out of necessity because of what occurred during the 2023 NFL Draft. Our site crashed during the entire first day of the draft, which was disastrous for our revenue stream because we make more money during the draft than any other time. The site crashed because a line of code conflicted with the old format of the site, so we had to transition to this new look.
Because we lost so much money during the draft, I want to point out that you can really help support the site by paying for the ad-free version of it. It’s $7.99 per month, but you’ll get a super-fast site with no ads. My developer will be adding new features to paid subscribers as well, so look for that in the near future. If you don’t want to pay, please spread the word about the site through word of mouth. That would also be a big help!
-
Buffalo Bills (2-0) – Previously: 3.
So much for the Bills being in a sandwich game. They had every reason to look past the Jets because they were coming off a 41-40 thriller and had a Thursday game coming up. They showed up and completely dismantled New York.
-
Green Bay Packers (2-0) – Previously: 5.
The Packers look like a terrifying team with Micah Parsons bearing down on opposing quarterbacks. They’ve allowed no touchdowns outside of garbage time in the fourth quarter. Their offense, meanwhile, looks great for the moment.
-
Philadelphia Eagles (2-0) – Previously: 2.
The Eagles haven’t looked like a defending Super Bowl champion through two games – they were outgained in Kansas City both in total yards and yards per play – but they didn’t resemble a Super Bowl contender in the early parts of 2024 either. Jalen Carter being ejected made Philadelphia’s defense much worse in the opener, and winning in Kansas City is no easy feat.
-
San Angeles Chargers (1-0) – Previously: 7.
It was nice to see the Chargers show some balls for a change at the end of the Kansas City game. They were so aggressive, which is something we’ve never seen from them before. Their defense also played better than expected, but I don’t fully trust it yet. It must be considered that Xavier Worthy getting hurt capsized Kansas City’s offense, at least in the first half before Andy Reid had time to make adjustments.
-
Los Angeles Rams (2-0) – Previously: 8.
I guess Matthew Stafford’s back is OK. For now, at least. Stafford has begun slowly in his first two games, but has been much better in the second halves. His chemistry with Davante Adams looked much better in Week 2.
-
Kansas City Chiefs (0-2) – Previously: 6.
The Chiefs are 0-2. They’ve lost to two good teams, but they can’t be placed in Group A anymore – not until Rashee Rice or Xavier Worthy returns to action. Patrick Mahomes has no one to throw to, and that’s taking Travis Kelce into account. Kelce has cared way more about his celebrity life than football going on three years now.
-
Washington Redskins (1-1) – Previously: 4.
So much for my bets on the Redskins to win Super Bowl LX. Maybe things will change if they trade for a talented defensive back and get Sam Cosmi back from injury, but this team is not the elite team I believed it could be when it acquired Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel. It would help if the coaching staff could put together a good game plan rather than run Austin Ekeler up the middle or kick 58-yard field goals on fourth-and-4.
-
Detroit Lions (1-1) – Previously: 10.
The Lions, without their two coordinators and two star interior linemen from last year, remind me of a pretty girl who cut her hair. It’s still the same person, and she looks OK, but not nearly as pretty. Detroit still has Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and Jared Goff, but they resemble an empty husk of what they once were.
I wrote that last week, and the hair has regrown. The Lions are a hot chick again! Well, that, or they just look great compared to their fat friend, the Bears.
-
Denver Broncos (1-1) – Previously: 11.
I’ve put all the NFL teams into groups, ranging from A to F. Group A is comprised of the elite teams, while Group F is the worst. Not counting Week 18, Six of Denver’s nine wins from last year came against Group D and Group F. Their other three victories were very fluky or have occurred in weird circumstances. They finished 0-6 straight up, 1-5 against the spread versus teams above Group C.
I mention this because the Broncos looked like a Group C team once again versus the Titans and Colts. They nearly beat Indianapolis, but were outgained by 140 yards and 1.1 yards per play. Then again, perhaps we should have expected this because Sean Payton is now just 3-20-1 against the spread in Weeks 1-2 since returning from his Bountygate suspension.
-
San Francisco 49ers (2-0) – Previously: 12.
So far, so good with Mac Jones, who had some bright moments in his first start. You could say that he just did this against the Saints, but I’d point out that the 49ers’ schedule is so easy that he’ll have similar opponents most weeks until Brock Purdy returns from injury.
-
Houston Texans (0-1) – Previously: 16.
As if Houston’s offensive line wasn’t bad enough, the team lost its center to injury against the Rams. Derek Stingley also got hurt, but the big concern is how awful the Texans’ blocking is. Why did they trade Laremy Tunsil again?
-
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0) – Previously: 13.
Emeka Egbuka is the real deal. Tampa Bay’s offense didn’t look like the real deal overall for much of the afternoon, but keep in mind that Tristan Wirfs wasn’t available. Things will improve once he returns.
-
Atlanta Falcons (1-1) – Previously: 14.
The Falcons need to wor on their red zone offense, but their defense is very energized by the additions of Leonard Floyd and the two first-round edge rushers. They should be 2-0 right now, given that they outgained the Buccaneers in Week 1.
-
Minnesota Vikings (1-1) – Previously: 9.
J.J. McCarthy looked terrible in seven of his eight quarters. He hasn’t had Christian Darrisaw for two games and Ryan Kelly for most of Week 2, but things don’t look promising right now. Somehow, Sam Darnold looks like Dan Marino compared to McCarthy so far.
-
Indianapolis Colts (2-0) – Previously: 19.
The Colts had a dominant win over the Dolphins in Week 1. I almost called it an impressive win, but there’s a chance the Dolphins are the worst team in the NFL, so I’m not sure if we’d look back at that game in about a month and call what Indianapolis did impressive, despite what the final score said. However, we saw the Colts continue their high level of play against the Broncos. Sure, they lucked out with a missed field goal and a red zone interception from Denver, but the Colts outgained the Broncos, 473-324, and averaged 1.1 more yards per play. It’s early, but this is looking like a solid team.
-
Las Vegas Raiders (1-0) – Previously: 21.
A nice start for Geno Smith with the Raiders. He had a rocky first half, but caught fire after halftime. I just want to see him involve Dont’e Thornton more instead of Tre Tucker. Oh, and we’ll have to see if Brock Bowers is OK after he left the game with a knee injury late in the afternoon.
-
Seattle Seahawks (1-1) – Previously: 25.
The Seahawks nearly beat the 49ers, but they needed two missed San Francisco kicks and two weird Brock Purdy picks, plus a George Kittle injury to be close. The Seahawks were able to bounce back the following week, however, getting an impressive win on the road at Pittsburgh. The Seahawks made so many mistakes in the first half, yet overcame those and still won by two touchdowns.
-
Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1) – Previously: 18.
How did the Jaguars fail to beat the Bengals with Jake Browning at quarterback? What an embarrassment. Liam Coen completely mismanaged the game. He was a brilliant offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay, but this was a horrible look for him.
-
Arizona Cardinals (2-0) – Previously: 20.
The Cardinals had the games against the Saints and Panthers well in hand through three quarters, but fell asleep at the wheel and nearly lost in both contests. They didn’t cost us the cover in Week 1, but they did just that in Week 2, ruining what would’ve been an excellent betting Sunday.
-
Chicago Bears (0-2) – Previously: 22.
Ben Johnson was expected to keep the game against the Lions close because of the knowledge he had about his former team. Well, apparently, any knowledge can be negated by quarterback incompetence. Caleb Williams had another rough game, at least until garbage time.
-
Dallas Cowboys (1-1) – Previously: 24.
I almost wrote that the Cowboys are 0-2 because they surrendered more than 500 yards to Russell Wilson. Jerry Jones can re-sign all the above-average players all he wants; his defense is a disaster without Micah Parsons.
-
Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) – Previously: 15.
I’m comfortable moving the Steelers down to Group D. Their defense looks awful. I didn’t know if last week’s result versus the Jets was a fluke, but one is an accident and two is a trend. I don’t know how the Steelers got this bad defensively, but they haven’t been able to stop Justin Fields, who did nothing versus the Bills, or Sam Darnold, who barely did anything against the 49ers. What’s going to happen when Pittsburgh has to battle Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow?
-
New England Patriots (1-1) – Previously: 26.
The Patriots won, but I have to wonder about their running back usage. How does TreVeyon Henderson get just five touches? Why is Antonio Gibson getting the ball? And does anyone not think that Henderson would’ve scored on the long Rhamondre Stevenson reception?
-
Cleveland Browns (0-2) – Previously: 27.
The Browns should have beaten the Bengals. They outgained them, 327-141, and they averaged nearly two more yards per play. I won’t say that the Browns should have beaten the Ravens, but they outgained Baltimore, 322-242. Somehow the Browns are 0-2 despite outgaining their opposition 649-383 in two games. Unreal.
-
New York Giants (0-2) – Previously: 28.
Russell Wilson, literally the best in the NFL right now. Where in the world did that perfomance come from after such a horrible showing in Week 1? I don’t understand how anyone can have such a Jekyll and Hyde performance, but maybe that’s how bad Dallas’ defense.
-
Cincinnati Bengals (2-0) – Previously: 17.
The Bengals might be the worst 2-0 team we’ve seen in a long time. They were outgained by about 200 yards versus the Browns in Week 1, and they trailed for most of the afternoon against the Jaguars. Joe Burrow was hurt, but the Bengals trailed even when Burrow was on the field. With Burrow hurt, Cincinnati is now one of the worst teams in the NFL.
-
New York Jets (0-2) – Previously: 23.
Jets fans were excited about Justin Fields, but that lasted only seven days. Back to reality, the Jets now have to figure out which quarterback they’ll be selecting in the 2026 NFL Draft. Here’s my 2026 NFL Mock Draft.
-
Carolina Panthers (0-2) – Previously: 29.
I can’t believe the Panthers were so bad in Weeks 1-2 (before the Cardinals fell asleep at the wheel) after keeping games close against the Chiefs, Eagles, and Buccaneers late in 2024. I mean, sure, they lost those games, and those teams didn’t try hard against them, but those results meant that Carolina was supposed to be soooo good this year.
-
Tennessee Titans (0-2) – Previously: 30.
The Titans are 0-2, but they’ve played against the Broncos and Rams, two teams listed in Group B. Cam Ward has shown enough to indicate that he’ll be able to defeat Group D and F teams.
-
New Orleans Saints (0-2) – Previously: 31.
For the second week in a row, the Saints were in a position to win the game on the final drive. Maybe that’s a positive, but the Saints battled the half-asleep Cardinals in Week 1 and Mac Jones in Week 2.
-
Miami Dolphins (0-2) – Previously: 32.
I guess the players’ only meeting worked because instead of losing by a lot, the Dolphins lost by a little. Still, it’s not a good look for a Mike McDaniel-coached team that players need a meeting without him.
