2011 NFL Draft Consensus Big Board

I thought it would be interesting to combine some of the prominent 2011 NFL Draft Big Boards to form one consensus big board.

Below are the average big board position of the top prospects in the 2011 NFL Draft. I looked at seven different big boards: Mel Kiper (ESPN), Todd McShay (ESPN), Rob Rang (CBS), Scott Wright (DraftCountdown.com), Tony Pauline (Sports Illustrated), Wes Bunting's (NFP) and Mike Mayock (NFL Network; just added).

Once Von Miller climbed up the boards, he went straight to #5 for some reason. If there's one consensus of all the mocks, it's Miller at #5. Not sure why - I assume they all read each other's mocks, and followed whoever went first.

I think the thing about him is that he isn't ranking the players in term's of their positional value. Instead, he utilizes a grading system that determines the player's effectiveness at that position.
Example: If FB Lorenzo Neal were in the draft and you know he is going to be one of the best blocking FB's of all time on Bunting's board he would be very high, perhaps even number 1. In the same draft there is a guy who plays a position much more important to get high skill sets at but the player isn't known to become one of the best of all-time then he would be ranked lower than Lorenzo. Just an odd system he utilizes.
He has Amukamara essentially on par with Jimmy Smith just slightly below.
If anything his input shouldn't really be in this "consensus big board" because he's not really ranking the player's against eachother.

I love Kiper, but how does he have Aldon Smith at 22? Smith has the kind of physical talent that got Mario Williams and Julius Peppers into the top three (if not the production...)

Bunting knows nothing if he has amukamara unranked and Brandon Harris at number 9

I'll add Banks and Scout.com big board rankings next week. As for Bunting, his rankings may look unusual, but he does talk with a lot of scouts, so he knows what he's talking about.

I don't know who Bunting is or why he's on here but seriously he has Julio Jones at 4 and Prince Amukamara not ranked. Jones is not that big a deal but come on not only does Prince beat you at football he serves you pancakes afterwards.

I think Wes Bunting just likes skill positions a whole lot... He's got a bunch of them in the Top 10 and hates DTs, DEs, etc.

A good value pick out in Hawaii with Greg Salas. Not just crazy stats enabled by a system; look deeper. The size, speed and he's from California not Hawaii. Should go somewhere in round 3 and emerge in 2012.

Yeah...Bunting sucks. Don Banks released his big board the other day and it seemed pretty good. So does Scouts Inc.
