Top 1-10 Analysis
So last week when I ranked Ohio State fifth, I guess I had a partial psychic moment - but I did think the Buckeyes would beat Michigan State. Florida State and Auburn deserve to play for the title. I'm really torn on who to pick in that game. My brain says the Seminoles, but my gut says the Tigers. I think I'll roll with the former.
If there was a playoff this year, I think Alabama would win another national title. Instead, the Crimson Tide will lay down a beating on Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.
On a neutral field, I think Stanford would beat Michigan State, so you can guess who I'm picking in the Rose Bowl.
Congratulations to Baylor on its first Big XII championship. I like the Bears' chances to finish 12-1 with a Fiesta Bowl win.
Scheduling plays such a big part of the final records in college football. If South Carolina had played Georgia late in the season instead of Week 2, I think the Gamecocks would have won the SEC East. Missouri had a great season and should be proud of what it acheived.
Ohio State was overrated all year. The Buckeyes weak non-conference schedule came back to bite them without any significant wins or getting them battle tested for a good team like Michigan State. Still, Ohio State is set up to be the top team in the Big Ten for many years to come.
- Oklahoma State
- Central Florida
- Arizona State
- Texas A&M
Top 11-20 Analysis
Oklahoma pulled out a shocking win over Oklahoma State. It goes to show that, in rivalry games, anything can happen. I think Clemson has the potential to light up the Ohio State defense in the Orange Bowl. That game should be a shootout.
Central Florida had a tight win over SMU. The Knights versus Baylor should be a fun bowl game to watch with Blake Bortles and Bryce Petty going head-to-head.
Arizona State lost to Stanford for the second time this year, but the rebuilding of the Sun Devils' program has been impressive.
Louisville won in overtime in Cincinnati. The Bearcats have a tough team, but the Cardinals seemed to peak at the beginning of the season. Teddy Bridgewater almost went to Miami, his hometown team, and I think he'll light up the Hurricanes in the Russell Athletic bowl.
LSU takes on Iowa, and South Carolina will go against Wisconsin. I think both SEC teams will win, but I could see the Badgers giving the Gamecocks a game.
- Fresno State
- Northern Illinois
- Notre Dame
Close, but not close enough: USC, Texas, Iowa, Minnesota, Washington, Miami, Vanderbilt.
Top 21-25 and Close-Calls Analysis
Duke played Florida State tough for awhile before the Seminoles pulled away. Still, the Blue Devils have had an excellent season and deserve a lot of respect for making it to the conference championship.
Fresno State beat Utah State, while Northern Illinois was upset. The Huskies will take on Utah State in their bowl game.
I was torn between USC and Notre Dame for the final spot, but the Fighting Irish won the head-to-head matchup, so Notre Dame deserves the spot. I wonder what this season could have been like if Tommy Rees wasn't the starting quarterback for the Fighting Irish.
Best of the rest: Nebraska, Cincinnati
