It is still in the early portion of the 2022 NFL Draft cycle, one position that does not look strong for talent has been safety. The consensus projections have Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton as a first-round pick, but he is the only safety who has consistently been considered an opening-night selection. While there may not be a lot of first-round talent at safety, NFL team sources say there are some worthy prospects for the second day of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Prospects who were named as quality second- or third-round picks were Michigan’s Daxton Hill, Georgia’s Lewis Cine, Penn State’s Jaquan Brisker and Cincinnati’s Bryan Cook. Some NFL teams view Hill as a nickel corner primarily, but would line him up at safety in the base set. Cine stepped up with a strong junior year to help Georgia win the National Championship. Cook notched four interceptions in 2017 for Howard, and he finished with a strong senior year for Cincinnati in 2021. Brisker put together an impressive senior year and could continue to rise with a good week at the Senior Bowl.

While the 2022 NFL Draft may not have many safeties selected on the opening night of the 2022 NFL Draft, team sources believe these prospects could form a solid ground group of safeties for Day 2.
