The 2021 NFL Draft process was started in the spring, when the advance scouts put together their pre-draft watch list. These area scouts put this list together, and it is shared among the teams around the league in two scouting membership communities, National Football Scouting and Blesto. The watch list is shared among the teams and helps the area scouts, national scouts, and college directors identify which players they will scout for the next draft when they start visiting college campuses in training camp.
Of course, new players are added and others are dropped as the following season unfolds. Two years ago, the preseason watch list for the 2019 NFL Draft did not have Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray or Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. Those ended up being the first and third overall picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, so obviously a lot can and will change in the leadup to the 2021 NFL Draft. That being said, this list has the vast majority of players who will be drafted next spring.
For the second straight year, Ohio State is the leader with 13 prospects. Texas A&M tied the Buckeyes with 13 players on the list. The defending National Champion LSU Tigers are tied for third with 10 prospects. The surprising team that tied LSU was Kentucky, as the Wildcats also had 10 players on the watch list. Talent factories like Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson came in behind those top four. Here is a summary of the number of players from some of the top programs.
