Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams had a devastating National Championship game. In the early going Williams had a nice run on a wide receiver screen to get a first down. Midway through the first half, Williams ran a go route down the middle of the and got wide open in zone coverage. The pass was thrown late and short, but after adjusting to make the catch, Williams was stumbling and his left leg collapsed. It was a 40-yard reception but he had to be helped off the field. Williams was done for the night and teammate John Metchie was sent into the locker room to console Williams. If it is a serious injury, that could have a serious impact on Williams rookie NFL season. And it could possibly send him to the second day of the draft.
Georgia nose tackle Jordan Davis will be a high first-round pick next April and this tape won’t help or hurt Davis significantly. Early in the first quarter Davis worked off the center and charged down the pocket to get a near strip-sack but the review turned it into an incomplete pass. In the fourth quarter Davis joined teammates in getting a tackle for a loss. Throughout the night Davis was plugging rushing lanes and keeping Alabama from establishing a consistent rushing offense. In the 2022 NFL Draft, Davis will probably be a top-20 pick.
There were three future running backs in the NFL with Alabama’s Brian Robinson Jr, Georgia’s Zamir White, and Georgia’s James Cook. All three were impressive in the National Championship showing next level ability.
Robinson will probably be the first one to get drafted and he ran hard versus Georgia. The Bulldogs tremendous defense bottled him up holding him to 68 yards on 22 carries. He caught four passes for 28 yards and did a nice job of blitz protection. Overall this tape will help his draft grade because he ran hard and looked very good protecting his quarterback.
Like Robinson, White could be starting for a NFL team next fall. The power back ran well versus Alabama churning out 84 yards on 13 carries. In the third quarter White plunged into the end zone from a yard out, and in the fourth quarter White had some chunk runs that grinder out some clock while moving the chains to set up the game clinching touchdown pass to Brock Bowers. For the NFL, White has three down starting ability with size, speed, and power. In the 2022 NFL Draft, White could be a second-round pick.
Cook is a speed back that could be a good rotational back in the NFL. In the third quarter Cook made one the biggest plays in the game with an explosive run of 67 yards. He totaled 77 yards on six carries. If Cook were bigger, he could be a higher pick but being undersized he might be more of a mid-rounder.
Alabama linebacker Christian Harris has a really good skill set but he didn’t always play up to it in 2021. He played better in the National Championship and was a force in the early going with a pair of tackles for a loss. Early in the fourth quarter Harris had a lightning fast interior rush to get a strip-sack of Stetson Bennett that was recovered by Alabama at the Georgia 16. That play set up the Crimson Tide’s only touchdown of the game. Harris could be a day-two pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and this tape will definitely help in the final months leading up to the draft.
