Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Browns: Sam Darnold, Quarterback, USC

I'm not buying the drafting Josh Allen or Barkley number 1 rumors. Darnold is the "safest" qb in this class. I think he has the same ceiling as Allen but with the higher floor, so that's why he's the pick

2. Bills: Josh Rosen, Quarterback, UCLA

Buffalo Receive
# 2 overall pick

Giants Receive:
#12, #22, #65, #96, 2019 2nd Round Pick

The Bills are able to get their QB. For the Giants, I'm torn. I believe that the only reason the Giants stay at 2 is to take a QB and if I was GM then I would because this might be the best chance and I would hate to pass up this opportunity because I don't think that the Giants next year will be a 2 or 3 win team. But alas, I'm not GM and I am buying that the Giants only have eyes for Darnold. All of this Barkley love may be true but I think its a smokescreen to get the Browns to take Barkley so they can take Darnold. If that's the case the Giants keep the pick and take Darnold.

Rosen has been dubbed the most "nfl ready" qb, and for a team that is coming off a postseason berth, drafting the "nfl ready" qb makes sense to me.

3. Jets: Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Oklahoma

When this trade was announced I was confused. It signals to me that they are soooooo desperate for a QB that they don't care who they get; they just want to move up to secure one. That smells like trouble to me, especially for a team that are less than reputable in the QB development department. This is why I have them taking Mayfield. Mayfield is less of a project than what Allen is so he is the pick

4. Browns: Bradley Chubb, Defensive End, N.C. State

This pick is a bit of a quandary for me. I think the Browns would want to trade down, however finding a trade partner is going to be hard. I don't think teams are going to be rushing for Allen, or at least will be able to offer enough to get to 4.
At this point then, it becomes a BPA situation. That means it comes down to Barkley and Chubb. Barkely is a better prospect but, you can never have too many pass rushers, and I think you can have too many RB. I think that Cleveland gets more value out of pairing Chubb with Garrett than paring Barkley with Hyde and Johnson.

5. Broncos: Denzel Ward, Cornerback, Ohio State

I don't think they take their QB here, and I've been seeing a lot of Nelson here, but I don't like the idea of drafting a guard in the top five regardless of how talented. They cut Talib and need another outside CB opposite Roby, so Ward makes sense.

6. Giants: Saquon Barkley, Running Back, Penn State

Indy Receives:
OBJ, #139

Giants Receives:
#6, 2019 2nd Round Pick

Its not 2 first round picks, but its pretty close. I don't think the Giants should trade OBJ, but Dave Gettleman is going to. Its going to happen. I know that, don't listen to reports that it's not happening. Its going to happen. Gettleman rescinded Norman's franchise tag and let him walk in Carolina. It was pretty stunning at the time and this trade will be the next stunning move that Gettleman makes.

The Colts make sense for OBJ. They get a weapon opposite Hilton and create a duo that can rival Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. They have the cap space to do it and they have a million second round picks (thanks Jets), so losing their first will not hurt them too much.

For the Giants, they get Barkley in the end. The best player in the draft and someone who will change and impact the offense immediately.

7. Buccaneers: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Safety, Alabama

When you have to play Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, and Cam Newton twice a year each, you need as much help as possible in the secondary. The Buccs need help at both safety and in the nickel, Fitzpatrick gives them the versatility to help in both areas.

8. Bears: Quenton Nelson, Offensive Guard, Notre Dame

They cut Josh Sitton, so obviously Nelson makes sense. He is the best player on the board at this point too. He will come in right away and start, and will contribute in keeping Trubisky upright.

9. Patriots: Josh Allen, Quarterback, Wyoming

Trade 3
Patriots Receives:
San Francisco Receives:
#23, #31

I mean I kinda don't really see this happening but I just think it would be really fun for Josh Allen to be a Patriot. Obviously a project who needs some mentoring, where better to receive it. I just feel like it is a natural fit that the Patriots draft Allen.

10. Raiders: Roquan Smith, Outside Linebacker, Georgia

The Raiders really need LB help barring they choose to not bring back Navarro Bowman. This is a pretty no brainier pick

11. Dolphins: Prospect not selected

Josh Allen would have been the pick here but the dolphins miss out. I think they try to move up but I think that the bears and bucs are locked into their slots, and the niners couldn't pass up two first round picks this year and chose the pats offer. That leaves the dolphins with a really nice consolation prize; a 19 year old LB who scouts are salivating over.

12. Giants: Courtland Sutton, Wide Receiver, SMU

The Giants dealt OBJ in this mock, so obviously he needs to be replaced. Sutton is my top WR in this class and he provides nice size and length that could really help the Giants.

13. Redskins: Vita Vea, Defensive Tackle, Washington

The redskins were 30th in rushing yards per attempt allowed last year. Vita Vea is a run stuffing monster that will anchor that defensive line.

14. Packers: Derwin James, Safety, Florida State

The packers let Morgan Burnett go for fairly little money (not the first time, Casey Hayward a few years ago). The secondary is young but there is some talent. They need a few more pieces on that defense overall, and at this point they are going to take the BPA on the defense with their first pick. Derwin James who some say is a better prospect than Fitzpatrick, slips in this mock and is a perfect landing spot in GB.

15. Cowboys: Calvin Ridley, Wide Receiver, Alabama

Trade 4
Cowboys Receive:
#15, # 134

Cardinals Receive:
#19, #81, # 116

The Cowboys have cut Dez, which was a smart move since he is an overpaid aging WR. Not to mention his outspokenness seems to be a distraction at times. Had they kept him I still would have thought that WR was going to be a priority. This trade is done in order jump the Ravens who are in much need of a WR.

Ridley looks like a WR when you watch him, he makes route running look easy and is a very smooth runner. He just needs to add mass to his frame and get stronger.

16. Ravens: Leighton Vander Esch, Inside Linebacker, Boise State

Remember how I said that the Ravens needed a WR and the Cowboys trading up to jump them for that reason. Well Ozzie Newsome seems to not like to draft offensive players especially early. The last 6 drafts the Ravens have taken a total of 20 players in the first 3 rounds. 5 have been offensive players. That trend continues for the Ravens. Leighton Vander Esch seems to have garnered a lot of interest from teams. He's has had a workout with like 10 teams, so I think he will go early in this draft, and the Ravens fit as they could use another Lb opposite C.J. Mosley.
