2022 College Recruiting - 5 Commits

Last Player Grade Published on Sept. 17, 2021
Michigan State logo DL Chase Carter (Minneapolis, MN) commits to Michigan State  View Class

Carter (6-6, 218) has elite height and length, but he's very young to football and will take some patience and developing to reach his potential. I think Carter will end up as an edge guy in a three-man front or a traditional end with his hand in the ground in an even front. He's quick off the ball, but still learning how to bend when coming around the edge. Carter plays with a lot of effort and tries to run all over the field. Sometimes, it works out, but at other times, he runs himself out the play. Carter will have to continue to learn from his successes and mistakes as his grows and gains more experience in football.

Chase Carter's Player Grade: C
Michigan State logo TE Jack Nickel (Alpharetta, GA) commits to Michigan State  View Class

Michigan State dips into the southeast for a Nickel (6-4, 225), one of the best tight ends in the region. One of the first plays on film shows Nickel running wide open 50 yards down the field, displaying some speed. I think he's going to be the kind of combo tight end who is going to cause major problems in college. Nickel is a very good downfield blocker and isn't afraid to play inline and get his hands dirty. You can use him like an extra tackle on run plays, and he'll be a factor in the ground game. Nickel is a guy who can slip out into the open and just wreck a defense. His hands are very good. You can throw him the ball anywhere and he will come down with it.

Jack Nickel's Player Grade: B
Michigan State logo QB Katin Houser (Bellflower, CA) commits to Michigan State  View Class

Houser (6-3, 200) is a former commit to Boise State. He is quickly establishing himself among the best quarterbacks in the nation after an appearance in the Elite 11 showcase. Houser has a good body and a good frame that can take on more weight. He is very poised and comfortable in the pocket. Houser can sling it with accuracy and puts the ball on the money consistently, even on the deeper routes. He can stand in the pocket and keep his eyes on the target even if the rush is bearing down on him. Houser is athletic enough to get outside the pocket and pick up yards on a scramble as well. I am really impressed with Houser. He looks like a top-20 quarterback.

Katin Houser's Player Grade: B+
Michigan State logo WR Jaron Glover (Sarasota, FL) commits to Michigan State  View Class

Glover (6-3, 190) is a big-body at wide receiver. Obviously, his size is a major plus, but he moves well and is not stiff coming out of his breaks. Glover can move around in space and make a defender miss in the open field. If anything, he can stand to be a lot more physical and really use his size as an advantage. Glover isn't comfortable high pointing the ball yet, and that's something he'll have to improve with reps. He is an unfinished product who will gain strength and confidence with time in the weight room and more experience.

Jaron Glover's Player Grade: C+
Michigan State logo TE Michael Masunas (Chandler, AZ) commits to Michigan State  View Class

Masunas (6-5, 235) goes against the grain of what we're starting to see from tight ends in today's game. Don't expect to see Masunsas flexing to the outside too much. He's a natural in-line tight end who already has the body size and mentality to be an effective blocker and a major asset in the running game. Masunas is a capable receiver. He has a large catch radius and makes himself a big target. I could see Masunas as a option in short-yardage situations in the red zone and an occasional receiving option on play action. But Masunas will be physical on the line and provide an extra layer of blocking and protection.

Michael Masunas' Player Grade: C+
