Maryland (6-3, 212) has a heck of a pedigree as his father, Russell Maryland, was one of the best college football players of the late '80s/early '90s. The younger Maryland has some really good upside as a flex tight end in what's going to be a wide-open offense under new Mustangs coach Rhett Lashlee. I think he could eventually develop into a top-end pass-catching tight end.

The successful recruitment of Goree (6-1, 218) continues to boost SMU's best recruiting class since recruiting rankings began. He is a big safety, basically a linebacker at this stage, and there's plenty reason to believe he might outgrow the secondary. Verified track times of 10.6-seconds in the 100-meter dash make him one of the fastest players around. Goree grades out at plus levels in instincts, physicality and versaility. He can come off the edge and has the athleticism to cover as an outside linebacker, potentially giving him three levels of usage on a defense. I see Goree as a unique piece on a defense who could play multiple positions and be moved around the field.

The Mustangs have two blue-chip prospects in their current recruiting class, which could put them in a position to compete for a conference title in 2022 and beyond. Wide receiver Jordan Hudson was the first big-time commitment, and his high school teammate, Biddle (6-0, 190) is the second. Biddle is a major prospect in the secondary, with the potential to become an elite player. He is one of the fastest players in this recruiting class, with a confirmed 10.7 time in the 100-yard dash. Quick feet and great reaction time are the two real intangibles that stand out for Biddle. He continues to gain confidence in coverage and tackling, which bode well for more development. Biddle has the skill set and should continue to improve his overall game in his senior year.

Hudson (6-1, 182) is a major commitment for SMU, and the American Conference in general. It's rare that one of AAC schools can land a legitimate talent who is a top-25 player at the position. Hudson is a high-end talent and playmaking machine that could conceivably do it on either side of the ball. Looking at him as a wide receiver, Hudson has a thick-build and looks as physical as he plays. He will fight for the football in the air and isn't afraid to fight through contact to get to the ball. Where Hudson separates himself from the good is with his long speed and ability to get separation down the field. He is a threat to beat anyone deep in a one-on-one situation. If Hudson stays in SMU's class, he might be the best offensive player to play for the Mustangs since Emmanuel Sanders.

SMU logo DE Michael Ibukun-Okeyode (Rowlett, TX) commits to SMU  View Class

Right now, I have SMU's potential class hovering around the top-40, which is very impressive for an American Conference team, especially one not named Houston or Central Florida. The Mustangs have a couple of blue-chippers on the vine, and while Ibukun-Okeyode (6-4, 235) isn't quite there, he is a very good pass-rush prospect with a ton of Power Five offers. Ibukun-Okeyode is twitchy with a big frame. I think he offers some different opportunities along the line from being a natural edge rusher to growing and playing some three-technique.

Michael Ibukun-Okeyode's Player Grade: C+
