Interview with Gabe Jackson at 2014 Senior Bowl

Mississippi State guard Gabe Jackson is in the running to be the first guard selected in the 2014 NFL Draft. Jackson was one of the best offensive linemen in the SEC the past three seasons. The 6-foot-3, 339-pounder was a road-grading run-blocker who improved his pass protection during his career. In those years, Jackson went against many linemen he’ll be playing on Sundays, and Jackson looks ready to make a quick transition to starting in the NFL.
WalterFootball.com was able to catch up with Jackson for a quick interview about his Senior Bowl experience.
Who are some of the teams that you’ve met with here in Mobile?
“The Ravens, the Raiders, the Packers, the Texans and more. I can’t remember them all right now.”
Would you say any of those teams are showing more interest than the others?
“Not really; not that I can tell anyway.”
What has been the biggest challenge for you thus far at the Senior Bowl? Is it the players you’re going against, cramming a new playbook or interviewing with NFL teams?
“I would say just going over new plays. Getting back in the swing of things and taking to the coaching.”
At Mississippi State, you guys ran a lot of zone and mixed in some other schemes. What are you comfortable in based off your time in college?
“Inside and outside zone. Gap scheme and play-action.”
Is there a scheme that you feel the most comfortable in for the next level?
“I’ll be the most comfortable wherever they put me at. As long as I’m playing football, I can’t complain.”
