The Washington Redskins held a long meeting with Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson on Sunday night. They spent more time with Wilson than a typical player interview, so that could indicate some interest on the Redskins part. Wilson would be a good fit in Mike Shanahan's offense, and he could be targeted on the third day of the 2012 NFL Draft. Wilson's lack of size (5-10, 203), was as advertised. It wouldn't be surprising if Washington acquires a veteran quarterback while developing Wilson to see if he can overcome the lack of height through good grooming and coaching.
Sources said the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head coaching position has been turned down by six or seven coaches. That includes coaches declining interviews and actual negotiations about the position. Some of the known candidates to say no thanks are Oregon coach Chip Kelly, Texans defensive coordinator Wade Philips, new St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher and new Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin. Sources said they believe the Bucs are interested in interviewing both of the New York Giants coordinators Perry Fewell and Kevin Gilbride.
One of the issues that Tampa Bay has been having is allegedly they are trying to slash the severance packages of the coaches if they are fired, for assistants and the head coach. The Bucs are trying to save money by making changes there, but it is not sitting well with coaches. Last year there were top college assistants making more money than the Bucs assistant coaches.
Many league staff believe the teams that are still searching for head coaches, the Bucs, Colts and Raiders, are hurting themselves with the overall quality of their staff. The longer the search for the head guy, the harder it is to land top assistants.
Some scouts have said that Texas A&M wide receiver Jeff Fuller is underrated. He had a down senior year from a concussion, pulled hamstring and turf toe injuries. If he has a good week at Senior Bowl, don't be surprised to hear that his stock is rising up draft boards.
The New York Jets have taken a liking to Arizona State wide receiver Gerell Robinson. They probably aren't the only ones, as Robinson had a solid debut practice on Monday.
The Bears appear to be doing homework and digging into Ohio State wide receiver Devier Posey. They will meet with Posey on Monday night.
Minnesota was said to be ready to offer the defensive coordinator position to Raheem Morris, but he already had accepted a job to coach the defensive backs with the Redskins. Morris was the head coach and defensive coordinator for Tampa Bay the past three seasons.
@MockDraftMan14 Thank you, I appreciate you reading my ramblings and opinions on what teams should try to look for come next April. I know, I may over value blockers more than some which, is what most likely differs the most from your rankings. In the end, it's only June so who knows what's going to happen.
While we greatly differ on prospect rankings, something that should be assumed this early in the process, I see great thought was put into each pick and they all make sense when looked at through your perspective on the players. Great job!
Out of sheer boredom and the upcoming NBA draft has gotten me itching to make a new mock draft. Of course the NFL draft is a whole lot less predictable than the NBA draft, but also provides more success stories than the NBA draft. Again, I used schedules to determine each team's records and if you get upset with me just remember it's June and a whole lot can change by next April.
