Miami Dolphins Feedback
Trent Green
Trent Green apparently is a good fit for Cam Cameron's offense. Didn't know Cam liked has-beens in their very-late 30s.

As I mentioned in my Green Bay Packers feedback, I love receiving e-mails from readers, even if they don't agree with my opinions. I also try to reply to all of them.

When I gave Miami a 2-14 record in my 2007 Dolphins Season Preview, I expected some angry fans to shoot me an e-mail. After all, when I predicted the Raiders to go 2-14 last year, I received some malicious feedback from several people of the Black Hole congregation. Interestingly enough, I haven't heard from them since.

Here's the unedited version of an e-mail I just got from Derek Dighton, whom I presume is an avid Fins fan:

you predicted the dophins 2-14? thats alittle rediculous. jason taylor and zach are supposodly "getting older" ever year. and it hasnt stopped them. they added joey porter this year to help. trent green is built for camerons offense. the oline will be bettter than last year. with carey moving to left tackle and hadnot moving to guard. ronnie brown had 1000 plus yards last year after missing a fouth of the games. you havent watched marty boooker play that much, you havent seen what the dolphins have this year, how could you predict a worse record when they are in a better position this year than they were last year.

also. the rivalrie crap. the bills have not been a better team than miami. the jets 14 out of 18 includes a 9 game streak by the jets. that would make it even since then. and miami has a passrush that brady doesnt usually have to deal with against the bills and jets and frankly every other afc team. so thats why he falters against miami sometimes. miami won in ne in 05.

Thanks for e-mailing me, Derek. I'll address all of your concerns, one at a time:

jason taylor and zach are supposodly "getting older" ever year. and it hasnt stopped them. they added joey porter this year to help.

Of course Taylor and Thomas are getting older every year. They're biological humans, although Taylor didn't really play like one last year. He was incredible.

That said, I've never made a big deal about their age until now. Taylor will be 33 on Sept. 1. Thomas turns 34 on the same day. Don't think transitioning to the mid-30s is a big deal for a pair of perennial Pro Bowlers? Just look at what happened to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defense in 2006. Simeon Rice, Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber and Reggie Kelly all hit the age of regression at the same time. Taylor and Thomas have probably reached that point in their careers.

And don't get me started on Porter. Living in central Pennsylvania the past six years, I must have watched every Pittsburgh Steelers game in that time span. Porter was nothing more than a product of the system. It was a league-wide joke that the Dolphins gave $20 million guaranteed to a 30-year-old overrated linebacker. One of several moves I seriously questioned this offseason.

trent green is built for camerons offense.

What does that mean? If anything, Green WAS built for Cameron's offense. He was horrendous in 2006, even before he got hurt. I've always maintained that Green has been one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the NFL. Unfortunately, you'll find out how bad he really is come autumn. I'll be shocked if Dolphin fans are pleading for Cleo Lemon or John Beck by October.

In 1999, Andy Reid felt that Doug Pederson was built for his West Coast Offense. That didn't work out. Just because a player is "built" for an offense doesn't mean he'll succeed. Still, I have no idea why anyone would think Green is built for any sort of offense.

the oline will be bettter than last year. with carey moving to left tackle and hadnot moving to guard.

So, just because the Dolphins are moving people around means they'll have a better offensive line in 2007? How does that work? Isn't this the same group that allowed 41 sacks last year? All they really added was a rookie at center.

ronnie brown had 1000 plus yards last year after missing a fouth of the games.

I have a feeling you read something and thought I said something else. This is what I wrote about Ronnie Brown:

" Ronnie Brown's obviously not as good as Larry Johnson. Brown barely eclipsed the 1,000-yard plateau and was extremely inconsistent, though much of that can be blamed on his blockers."

What I forgot to mention is that Brown has never been a feature back in his entire career. Is it a coincidence that he got hurt at the end of the year?

you havent watched marty boooker play that much

Unfortunately, I have. And it wasn't pretty. He's as mediocre as it comes to starting wide outs.

how could you predict a worse record when they are in a better position this year than they were last year.

Better position? Does that mean their offense has stayed the same and their defense has gotten older? Doesn't sound like a better position to me.

also. the rivalrie crap. the bills have not been a better team than miami.

The Bills swept Miami last year and had a better record.

the jets 14 out of 18 includes a 9 game streak by the jets. that would make it even since then.

Doesn't it seem convenient to exclude a 9-game winning streak? That's 4-and-a-half years of not beating an opponent! What if Red Sox fans said, "Sure, we won only two World Series in the past 88 years, but that includes an 86-year drought. That would make it two World Series in four years without that!" A pretty dumb thing to say, right?

The Jets swept the Fins and have claimed five of the past six meetings. No 9-game winning streak involved there.

and miami has a passrush that brady doesnt usually have to deal with against the bills and jets and frankly every other afc team. so thats why he falters against miami sometimes. miami won in ne in 05.

You're definitely right about that Miami pass rush; it has really gotten to Brady over the years. However, I'm concerned that the pass rush may experience a setback this season, as Thomas and Taylor have reached the age of regression.

Miami won in New England in 2005 - with the Patriots starters resting on the bench. That's another thing you can't ignore.
