2010 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Ciron Black

Strengths:
  • Impressive height and bulk to play anywhere on the line
  • Plays with good technique and understands angles
  • Gets a push with his lower body
  • Powerful run blocker
  • Strong
  • Shows some balance
  • Nice hands
  • Tough
  • Nice awareness
  • Quick in short areas
  • Athletic enough to advance to second level
  • Has a mean streak
  • Good character
  • Durable
  • Can play guard or right tackle

    Weaknesses:
  • Inconsistent in pass protection
  • Sluggish kick step
  • Heavy legged
  • Lacks elite agility
  • Gets too high in his stance

Summary: I really like Black as an offensive line prospect and should make some team very happy in the second round. Teams need linemen who can play three or more positions, and Black can be a very good starter at guard or right tackle. He lacks the athleticism to play left tackle in the NFL, but he should find a nice home somewhere.

Player Comparison: Vernon Carey. Carey lacked the athleticism to play left tackle, but has been a dominant run-blocker for the Dolphins at right tackle, and also gives versatility as a guard.
