NFL Draft Rumors and Buzz: April 12, 2011

NFL Draft Rumors and Buzz: April 12, 2011

Below, you can find various tidbits of NFL Draft rumors and information offered by Mike Mayock, Michael Lombardi and the rest of the Path to the Draft crew on the NFL Network. I posted these in my forum, but I thought it would be better to keep all the draft rumors together in this section. I'll be tweeting these during Path to the Draft at @walterfootball.

  • REPORT: Steve Wyche reports that Da'Quan Bowers' medical recheck of his knee has revealed "potential long-term arthritis and some weakness."

  • Charley Casserly: A number of teams I've talked to view Da'Quan Bowers as a high risk. Some won't take him in the first round.

  • Charley Casserly: With the money you have to invest, you have to pass on Da'Quan Bowers not only in the top 10; but in the first round as well.

  • Michael Lombardi on Da'Quan Bowers: This is an old knee in a young body.

  • Charley Casserly: You can't pay big-time money to Da'Quan Bowers.

  • Mike Mayock: Another injured guy, Bruce Carter's not going to be able to play for someone in Week 1. But he has special ability. Was a top-15 or top-20 pick heading into this season.

  • Michael Lombardi: Brooks Reed reminds a lot of teams of Clay Matthews. He's got the skill to make a difference. We're going to look back and say, "Why wasn't he in the top 10?"

  • Solomon Wilcots: I think Mike Brown is going to stand pat and hold on to Carson Palmer. I don't think he's going to do anything. Mike Brown wants his way and doesn't want to set a precedent.

  • Solomon Wilcots: Carson Palmer is comfortable financially. The fact that he's speaking out and put his home on the market, I think this is something we need to listen to.

  • Solomon Wilcots: Marvin Lewis has sung the praises of Cam Newton lately, but I don't think that signifies anything. Probably smokescreening.

  • Solomon Wilcots: I think the Bengals will look to take a quarterback later rather than No. 4.

  • Solomon Wilcots: The No. 4 pick has to be used on one of the top defensive linemen, someone like Nick Fairley, Robert Quinn or Da'Quan Bowers.

  • Michael Lombardi: I think the Bengals are going wide receiver in the first round.

  • Michael Lombardi: Carson Palmer is serious about this retirement, but Mike Brown is a wall. He's going to let him retire.

  • Michael Lombardi: I think quarterback at No. 4 is a smokescreen. I think the Bengals take a wide receiver and a quarterback later.

  • Mike Mayock: At 28 and 33, I think the Patriots are open for business. When teams are looking to get back into the first round, that's a good place to be if you want to trade down.

  • Mike Mayock: At 17, the Patriots will look at Cameron Jordan or J.J. Watt. But don't be surprised if Anthony Castonzo or Mike Pouncey slide through.

  • Mike Mayock: I like the nose tackle from Baylor (Phil Taylor) for the Jets at No. 30.

  • Mike Mayock: Danny Watkins and Akeem Ayers fit for the Patriots and Jets at the bottom of the first round.

  • Mike Mayock: The guy I like in the 2nd round is Rodney Hudson. He has great movement skills, and quick hands and feet. His best position is center. He'll have a Pro Bowl or two a few years from now.

  • Mike Mayock: I love Randall Cobb's versatility for whatever team drafts him.

  • Mike Mayock: At 222 pounds, Delone Carter had much better feet than I expected. In the right offense, he'll be highly productive.

  • Mike Mayock: Most people believe that Julio Jones is one of the most physical football players in the draft. I like the Hines Ward comparison.

  • Michael Lombardi: A lot of teams in the league are suspecting that the Colts will pick a quarterback in the first round of the draft.

  • Charley Casserly: The stress fracture in Julio Jones' foot shouldn't affect his draft status.

  • Charley Casserly: I see T.O. in Julio Jones. A build-up speed guy. Drops some passes. T.O.!

  • Charley Casserly: A yellow light for Tyron Smith. Some swelling in his knee.

I would rather hear from actual experts in the draft on NFL Network or ESPN. Guys who have a track record of drafting well like Ozzie Newsome or Bill Parcells. Charlie Casserly, John Gruden, Michael Lombardi, etc kinda ruin the draft fun for me.

I will be so mad if Gabbert slips to Washington. They don't deserve to have that kind of luck after the way they have operated that organization.

I would LOVE it if the 49ers found a way to get Von Miller if he slipped past Buffalo, even though i dont think he will. So Patrick Peterson to the 49ers ! Cmon Balkee ! Make it happen !!

If the Eagles could draft Greg Little in the second round, that would be HUGE for our offense. We would not only have two proven, fast receivers, but also a huge redzone target. It would easily make Philly's offense even better, and would fill a need we have been lacking for a while.

Charley Casserley was a horrible GM and those 2 picks in 2006 where flukes. I can't stand listening to this guy talk. The Texans drafted terribly under him aside from a few players and his Redskin days as GM where horrible also.

With the 1st pick in the 2015 NFL Draft the_______ select Carlton Byrd WR Clemson University

NFL Network had Nick Fairley on the other day and he mentioned his sleep apnea but also mentioned he has a CPAP machine and his sleep issues are therefore no more. Charlie Casserly, that brilliant medical man that he apparently is, decided to continue the questions about his sleep apnea as if they persist.

"What if you're in a team meeting, do you have problems falling asleep?"

Uh, no Charlie. That's what the machine does. It keeps the airway open so he can reach REM sleep and wake up refreshed, unlike many of us who wake up exhausted. He obviously did the sleep studies and was fitted for, then prescribed a mask & unit. Are you not getting what he just said.

Now I'm wondering if his draft where he got Mario Williams #1 & DeMeco Ryans #2 was just a big fluke - or maybe he was sleeping while those picks happened.

Doesn't anyone think this Bowers junk is just a smoke screen? I mean...all kinds of guys have injury concerns, and I just think someone easily takes him top 20. Also, with Jimmy Smith. Reminds me of the Antonio Cromartie situation a few years ago...I think he may go to San Diego.

I would like to see what Clausen could do if he had some decent receivers. AJ Green would be a better pickup than Newton.

Brian Baldy be sayin, "The Seahawks have a lot of need?" Why he steals my notes? He debacled himself by not sayin Seahawk need more great runnin back. That's how they win in Doggone Playoff, and even make Doggone Playoff.

    C Da Jerk-

Matt Lienart won a Heisman and 2 national championships and Matt Cassel didn't play a down in college. Who's the better player? College stats don't mean NFL success.
