NFL Draft Rumors and Buzz: April 11, 2011
NFL Draft Rumors and Buzz: April 11, 2011
Below, you can find various tidbits of NFL Draft rumors and information offered by Mike Mayock, Michael Lombardi and the rest of the Path to the Draft crew on the NFL Network. I posted these in my forum, but I thought it would be better to keep all the draft rumors together in this section. I'll be tweeting these during Path to the Draft at @walterfootball.
Michael Lombardi: I would not look past a quarterback with the Bengals.
Mike Mayock: I would rather draft Dontay Moch in the third round than Justin Houston or Akeem Ayers in the first round. Two years from now, Moch will be a better player.
Mike Mayock: I like Marcus Gilchrist. I'll take him in the third or fourth over than Rahim Moore in the first or second.
Mike Mayock: I would take Dan Watkins late one, early two over Gabe Carimi, Derek Sherrod or Nate Solder in the first.
Michael Lombardi: Dontay Moch is the type of player the Steelers draft.
Michael Lombardi: I think Carolina is looking for a can't-miss player. A.J. Green is can't-miss. The Panthers have no receivers.
Mike Mayock: I'm not buying into Marty Hurney definitely taking a quarterback with the first pick. I've got no problem with A.J. Green. I'd rather have Marcell Dareus. Patrick Peterson would make some sense too.
Darren Urban (AZCardinals.com Beat Writer): I'll be honest, I know a lot of people are talking about Blaine Gabbert for the Cardinals, but I think they're going to go defense and look at quarterback elsewhere like Marc Bulger.
Darren Urban: If Blaine Gabbert's there at No. 5, the Cardinals will take a pass. The Cardinals need play-makers on defense. Von Miller would be a great choice.
Darren Urban: Von Miller is a more coveted selection than Patrick Peterson. But Peterson is a possibility if Von Miller is gone.
Darren Urban: I don't think the Cardinals would give up the No. 5 pick for Kevin Kolb, but they might be willing to give up a 2012 first-round pick.
Mike Mayock: Franchise quarterback trumps everything, but if Blaine Gabbert is available at No. 5, I believe Arizona has to sprint to the podium and hand in their card.
Mike Mayock: Aldon Smith could be a 280-pound dominating right defensive end. He's one of the quickest get-off guys. The 3-4 teams like him at 265, but he's best suited to play in the 4-3.
Mike Mayock: I like Ryan Kerrigan as a 4-3 defensive end. He looks a lot like Ray Edwards to me. The 3-4 teams might see some Mike Vrabel.
Mike Mayock: Robert Quinn is the ideal 4-3 defensive end. He didn't look good in the pass drop drills as a linebacker, but how often do the Cowboys drop DeMarcus Ware into coverage? He has elite ability to get to the quarterback. It wouldn't surprise me to see the 3-4 teams in the top 10 - like San Francisco - consider him as a rush linebacker.
Mike Mayock: Da'Quan Bowers didn't have a good workout. I'm not a big believer in him as a top 10 pick.
Mike Mayock: Brooks Reed has a great motor. The 3-4 teams like him an awful lot.
Mike Mayock: Allen Bailey seems to get stuck on blocks. He doesn't have great instincts. He could slide to the second or third round.
Mike Mayock: I still think Adrian Clayborn is going in the first round. If you liked him before knowing about the Erb's Palsy, why wouldn't like him now?
Michael Lombardi: I think Robert Quinn is much more suited for the 4-3. You want to bring him forward and bring his ability to rush the passer at full force.
Michael Lombardi: If you're a 3-4, you have to go a different direction other than Robert Quinn.
Michael Lombardi: I worry about Da'Quan Bowers in terms of his work ethic, his knee and the lackluster workout.
Mike Mayock: Like Malcolm Jenkins, I think Aaron Williams' best position could be free safety.
Michael Lombardi: Everyone keeps talking about Tyron Smith going to the Cowboys. Aldon Smith is a guy I'm hearing about for Dallas.
Jason La Canfora: I continue hear to continue buzz about Jake Locker being the third quarterback off the board in the middle of the first round. Maybe Minnesota. Maybe Miami.
Jason La Canfora: I hear that Jay Gruden likes Andy Dalton. Jon Gruden likes him too - he worked him out.

I would rather hear from actual experts in the draft on NFL Network or ESPN. Guys who have a track record of drafting well like Ozzie Newsome or Bill Parcells. Charlie Casserly, John Gruden, Michael Lombardi, etc kinda ruin the draft fun for me.

I will be so mad if Gabbert slips to Washington. They don't deserve to have that kind of luck after the way they have operated that organization.

I would LOVE it if the 49ers found a way to get Von Miller if he slipped past Buffalo, even though i dont think he will. So Patrick Peterson to the 49ers ! Cmon Balkee ! Make it happen !!

If the Eagles could draft Greg Little in the second round, that would be HUGE for our offense. We would not only have two proven, fast receivers, but also a huge redzone target. It would easily make Philly's offense even better, and would fill a need we have been lacking for a while.

Charley Casserley was a horrible GM and those 2 picks in 2006 where flukes. I can't stand listening to this guy talk. The Texans drafted terribly under him aside from a few players and his Redskin days as GM where horrible also.
With the 1st pick in the 2015 NFL Draft the_______ select Carlton Byrd WR Clemson University http://youtu.be/3upsYI29fhY

NFL Network had Nick Fairley on the other day and he mentioned his sleep apnea but also mentioned he has a CPAP machine and his sleep issues are therefore no more. Charlie Casserly, that brilliant medical man that he apparently is, decided to continue the questions about his sleep apnea as if they persist.
"What if you're in a team meeting, do you have problems falling asleep?" Uh, no Charlie. That's what the machine does. It keeps the airway open so he can reach REM sleep and wake up refreshed, unlike many of us who wake up exhausted. He obviously did the sleep studies and was fitted for, then prescribed a mask & unit. Are you not getting what he just said. Now I'm wondering if his draft where he got Mario Williams #1 & DeMeco Ryans #2 was just a big fluke - or maybe he was sleeping while those picks happened.

Doesn't anyone think this Bowers junk is just a smoke screen? I mean...all kinds of guys have injury concerns, and I just think someone easily takes him top 20. Also, with Jimmy Smith. Reminds me of the Antonio Cromartie situation a few years ago...I think he may go to San Diego.

I would like to see what Clausen could do if he had some decent receivers. AJ Green would be a better pickup than Newton.

Brian Baldy be sayin, "The Seahawks have a lot of need?" Why he steals my notes? He debacled himself by not sayin Seahawk need more great runnin back. That's how they win in Doggone Playoff, and even make Doggone Playoff.

Matt Lienart won a Heisman and 2 national championships and Matt Cassel didn't play a down in college. Who's the better player? College stats don't mean NFL success. |
