Path to the Draft: April 8, 2011
Below, you can find various tidbits of NFL Draft rumors and information offered by Mike Mayock, Michael Lombardi and the rest of the Path to the Draft crew on the NFL Network. I posted these in my forum, but I thought it would be better to keep all the draft rumors together in this section. I'll be tweeting these during Path to the Draft at @walterfootball.
A mock draft between Charley Casserly, Charles Davis and Bucky Brooks. Oh no.
Bucky Brooks: Cam Newton is the right guy for the Panthers at No. 1.
Charles Davis: Cam Newton is a mix between Josh Freeman and Ben Roethlisberger. Bucky Brooks agrees.
Charley Casserly: I'm praying for you, Marty (Herney) if you take Cam Newton No. 1.
Charley Casserly has Denver picking Marcell Dareus at No. 2. ("I think he'll be a Pro Bowler.")
Bucky Brooks: The Bills will discuss a quarterback, but Ryan Fitzpatrick has been outstanding.
Bucky Brooks has Buffalo picking Von Miller at No. 3.
Charley Casserly: Playing poker with Mike Brown, that's tough because he's not changing his mind. A.J. Green will be the pick at No. 4.
Bucky Brooks: Blaine Gabbert fits in well what they like to do in Arizona. (Has Cardinals taking Gabbert).
Charles Davis: Blaine Gabbert is a cross between Joe Flacco and Sam Bradford.
Mary Kay Cabot (Cleveland Plain-Dealer): I really believe the Browns are dedicated to Colt McCoy. Pat Shurmur really likes Colt.
Mary Kay Cabot: No. 6 could really be A.J. Green. They really need a blue-chip receivers.
Mary Kay Cabot: It would be a really tough call between A.J. Green and Patrick Peterson. They'll stay true to their board.
Mary Kay Cabot: I would not rule out Patrick Peterson despite Joe Haden. If Peterson is higher than Green, the Browns are taking Peterson.
Charley Casserly: Defensive end is the No. 1 need. But I think the Browns stay with the highest player on their board: Green, Peterson, then DE.
Bucky Brooks: The Browns need to go after a playmaker - A.J. Green, but they'll also consider Julio Jones.
An e-mail I received: This lady on Path is saying Bowers if healthy could still go to Cleveland. She needs to go back to selling Avon.
Charley Casserly: I really like this Carolina club. A lot of talent. Got hit with a lot of bad luck last year.
Charley Casserly: The Panthers should take Blaine Gabbert. A bit of a reach, but I'd "Flacco" him, run the ball, play defense.
Mock draft continued: Charley Casserly has Cleveland taking Patrick Peterson at No. 6.
Bucky Brooks: The 49ers would love to take a QB at No. 7. They need to shore up their secondary. Prince Amukamara gives them a solid guy back there.
Charley Casserly has Tennessee taking Nick Fairley at No. 8 over Robert Quinn.
Charley Casserly: I think Tracy Rocker (former Auburn defensive line coach) stands up for Fairley.
Charley Casserly: From all the teams I talked to, it was always Marcell Dareus over Nick Fairley. The media's just catching up.
Bucky Brooks has Dallas picking Tyron Smith: "They need a right tackle. They need to get physical up front."
Charley Casserly: I'm giving the Redskins Julio Jones (over Robert Quinn) because he's the next best-rated player.
NFL Network 2011 NFL Mock Draft: 1. Newton. 2. Dareus. 3. V.Miller. 4. Green. 5. Gabbert. 6. Peterson. 7. Amukamara. 8. Fairley. 9. T.Smith. 10. J.Jones.
Bucky Brooks: Ras-I Dowling is back on the map. Bottom of the first, top of the second.

The guy is a horrible announcer and and even worse analyst. He said on one of the Path to the Draft shows that, "I don't watch nearly as much film as you guys do, but you're wrong."
WHAT!? I am completely unqualified AND I did less research but I am right. I never knew Baldy was a member of the Tea Party. Oh yeah, the two he said that to were Charles Davis and Mayock who are two of the best in the business.

Why wouldn't the Steelers consider Ras I Dolwing with the 31st???? Seriously...Dowling is a better fit for our defense than Aaron Williams is(although he's a good fit)...I want someone who can tackle like Ike Taylor and can actually play CB and stay there!!! Dowling should be our guy becuase he's an Ike Taylor 2.0 w/o the 4.26 speeed, but Dolwing has better hands IMO....so I hope the Steelers trade down into the early 2nd for Dolwing....

Its pretty easy to see why some of these guys... namely Charlie Casserly are unemployed by actual NFL teams. How do you rate Blaine Gabbert high with 16 TD passes, when Chase Daniel was throwing 30 TDs a year and he's wack. When will people realize... you hit, you miss..

What a swerve that would be if Ryan Mallett were to go somewhere in the top 10.

Just how much is Marvin Austin's agent paying Michael Lombardi? Nick Fairley is a "red flags" prospect, but Austin isn't? Wow.

Panthers would be stupid to take a QB at #1....give Clausen a chance and draft A.J. Green to give him a weapon....trade Steve Smith for a 2nd round pick and rebuild the defense.

Well, the Browns need a WR, and DL, but if PP is there, he may be just too tempting to pass by. Besides, DL is really deep, and there will be enough WR out there. That's the ONLY thing about drafting PP that bothers me, is that it removes a spot to fill the DL with. I can live with that.

Not the Steeler's style to trade up? They did it for Polamalu and for Holmes, that is twice in the last eight or nine years... not really far-fetched

Why do people just automatically compare Mallett to Jeff George and Ryan Leaf? It irritates me how bad of a rap he gets, when no one can prove that any allegations are true. Also, Jake Locker to Kyle Boller? When did Boller run in the 4.5 range and ever have the talk of being the number one pick in a draft? Never. These guys are not experts; we can look back in 5 years, and half of the stuff they are insisting be 100% correct will be so wrong it's not even funny.
