Buffalo Bills (0-3) at Detroit Lions (1-2)
Line: Lions by 3.

Thursday, 7:00 ET

The Game. Edge: None.
Outcomes of preseason games rarely have anything to do with the talent on the respective teams, since the majority of the games are played by second-, third- and fourth-stringers.

Some coaches care about winning preseason games, while others do not. Thus, betting on coaches with great preseason records is an easy way to make money.

Here are recent NFL Betting Trends: Preseason Records for every coach in the NFL.

As I discussed last week, Chan Gailey doesn't care about winning preseason games. Jim Schwartz does, so he may want to finish strong with a victory after losing at Oakland this past weekend.

Mike McCarthy doesn't give a damn about Week 4 preseason games. I'm not sure if Romeo Crennel does, but he may want to end the exhibition on a high note after getting blown out against Seattle.

I cannot believe the Eagles are favored by this much. Andy Reid completely mails in the last preseason game every year, so there's no reason the spread should be this high. Rex Ryan, meanwhile, will want his team to get into the end zone. This is my August NFL Pick of the Month because this line is so ridiculous.

Mike Tomlin is insane and loves to win these meaningless preseason games. Ron Rivera doesn't seem to care one way or the other. I wish this spread weren't larger than a field goal, but Pittsburgh is still worth a moderately sized wager; Tomlin has won all five of his Week 4 preseason games by 16, 16, 11, 3 and 16 ponts, so odds say that he's going to cover.

@Purelock - I think everyone got killed last night with the NBA. I looked at the games early and it looked too good to be true... turns out it was. I got pounded! Let's figure out what went wrong and not do that again. Now time to move forward and bounce back!

Big change of heart, Walt, on the Bears. Picked to lose to the Titans one week, picked to beat the Texans the next?

Indy -3 (-125), first spot of this weeks three team par. Agree with most of the below posts on this game. Just on team talent this year, gotta go with Indy. If you add motivation and desire, at the very Least, I like the Colts by three. I capped this game 23 to 17 Colts. GLTA.

    My play of the week:

    Colt-3.5 (40 units)

If anyone feels that the Colts are going to come out sluggish after shaving their locks in support of their coach and football family member you are sadly mistaken. This team is primed and ready to expose the already exposed Jags! My prediction is:

    Colts 27. Jags 10

Good Luck to all and be on the right side of winning!

So many people seem to think this is a trap game for the Colts... maybe their overall talent is a little overrated, but IF Luck is becoming the "real deal", then this is a gift. The way I see it is we have a top-10 QB on a hungry team going against a bottom-5 QB on a directionless team with the worst home crowd in the NFL. For all we know, the Jags have already quit on their coach and the players just wanna get out of town before the owner moves the team to London.

Seriously, though, the Colts' players just shaved their heads bald today as a sign of solidarity to back up their coach... sometimes stuff like that can be overrated, but in this case, I think we're lookin at a unique situation where this team is truly locked in and developing chemistry that goes beyond the typical NFL team.

Won my first play of the year in NBA last night. Heat romped, Dallas coasted after garnishing a huge lead in the second, Boston/Wash Under 194.5 should have been easy, but the game went to overtime which is usually Death for the Under. Put all of these in a 3 team 8 point teaser. Nice to start off with a W. BTW, I posted this play yesterday on Walter s NBA pick site. All of you Giant haters, remember the Giants played basically .500 ball the entire regular season last year, BARELY made the playoffs. How did that end up for them???????????? NOT a Giant fan, but as I posted before when the playoff bell sounds they BRING IT!!!! GLTA.

I had a terrible past 2 weeks something like 2-7. I strayed away from my system of thinkin that had me on fire the first 6 weeks. I wrote down my keys to avoid straying. Hit Monday night on the under... Threw my whole account down in a desperation drunk move and it worked back up 20 units on thE season.

Tonight's game: Indy is without 2 secondary starters if gabbert can get the ball out he will get his open receivers. Indy is traveling in a short week against a division for with the media hyping them up as playoff contenders... Perfect recipe for disaster. If Jax doesn't turn it over (they will get help from the refs today watch for shady calls) I see them covering the 3.5 and maybe winning out right

    Jax +3.5

DON'T GIVE UP BROTHER AND STAY HUMBLE LIKE YOU ARE- AT LEAST YOU ARE WILLING TO ADMIT DEFEAT. YOU GOTTA PULL YOURSELF UP AND LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES. ONLY THROUGH FAILURE CAN WE TRULY SUCCEDE. YOU'VE GOT THE ATTITUDE OF A WINNER AND I KNOW YOU'LL PREVAIL IN THE LONG RUN.

AM A BIG FAN OF YOUR WORK. WHILE INDY GAME WOULD SEEM TO BE HIGH SCORING WITH THESE TWO PLAYING YOU MAKE A GREAT ANALYSIS FOR THE UNDER SAVED ME SOME WORK I CAN PUT INTO USING ON THE NBA TONITE TO GET US SOME WINNERS.
THANKS AGAIN TO BOTH, GOOD LUCK AND NEVER LOSE HOPE.

walt wrong giants will care about this game but truth is they are highly overrated. I mean really couldn't stop cleveland or dallas had to rely on them beating themselves with a lead.

how pathetic refs cheat big time for the g-men with moron bill leavy and co. and steelers still win. That's how bad the giants really are. steelers would have probably won easy without moron refs like this. Why the nfl doesn't fire refs like this is beyond me. I could have done a better job. You know what cincy probably will beat them.

Walter is 1-8 on his Thursday night picks...do I need to say much more?

Colts have a terrible D, no doubt, but they have determination. Chuck Pagano is their Gipper, and quite frankly that's the American attitude the Colts need to harness to go places.

Andrew Luck is not happy with being the best rookie QB in NFL history (overstatememnt?), so why shouldn't we play on this and realize he's going to only do his best to perform every week?

Jags have a QB worse than Tim Tebow, an RB playing for his life (something to watch?), and a terrible D.

My money is on the Colts -3. Flip the switch...do you honestly believe they'd be less than 1 TD at home?

    Colts -3
    Under 42.5

why do u always say games don't mean anything to teams? Like the giants for instance.. Uhh, ther going into a bye wk after the cincy game and are playing terrible, and u don't think there gonna wanna go to cincy and right the ship? Especially with tough teams after the bye coming up, there def gonna wanna get much needed win to "STAY" comfortably ahead in the NFC east.. They might not cover, but they are gonna win this game, as ELI's taking critisim right now and i'd be shocked to see them not come out guns a blazin and score around 27-30 points and win the game.. I say they win 27-21..
