Line: Panthers by 4.

The Game. Edge: None.
Outcomes of preseason games rarely have anything to do with the talent on the respective teams, since the majority of the games are played by second-, third- and fourth-stringers.

Some coaches care about winning preseason games, while others do not. Thus, betting on coaches with great preseason records is an easy way to make money.

Here are recent NFL Betting Trends: Preseason Records for every coach in the NFL.

I don't have much for you this week because there are too many unknowns with all of these damn new coaches. Joe Philbin may want to win his first game though. He should be able to do it against Ron Rivera, who is just 1-4 in the preseason. However, there's not much data here, so this is going to be a small play.

I normally don't bet on Andy Reid in the preseason, but there's a caveat here. The Eagles will be playing their starters into the third quarter because they can't do that next week. Thanks to a schedule screw-up, Philadelphia takes on the Browns next weekend as well as Week 1 of the regular season. In other words, Reid will be treating this like Week 3 of the exhibition campaign, which is when he usually does very well.

Your niners analysis is pretty piss-poor.

"The weakness of the 49ers' stop unit is the secondary."
false. The 49ers secondary isn't the weak link. They're actually #2 overall in the NFL allowing only 184 yds per game and only 6 passing td's all season.

"Right tackle Anthony Davis is the weak link on the unit. He's been better this season than in the past, but he can still be a liability"
Not sure i'd consider a guy who got mid-season All-Pro selections from Sports Illustrated, NFL.com, ESPN.com and Pro Football Weekly the "weak link". The niners also have the best run game in the NFL thanks to AD. He gave up 3 sacks against the Giants, but hasn't given up a single one in the other 7 games. This o-line doesn't have a weak link.

Good evening passengers, not much on the board tonight but I do have some + plays. First I'll re-post my NFL play for those who aren't up in the wee hours of the night...

The train is slooooowly starting to pick up steam as it's now at 30-25-3 in the NFL so far this year. 54% is really not making doll houses out of stacks of $100's, but every journey starts with one small step and at least it's not 5 games under.

Jags are hosting the Colts tomorrow night it a pretty poor NFL match-up for a single night game but at least Luck is on showcase. Boy the Jags are really bad. They are hurt, no MJD, they are poorly coached, and their quarterback situation might have to me re-evaluated. HOWEVER, they have won one game this year, guess who they beat. On the road no less. But I know, a lot has happened between now and then. The Jags have digressed and the Colts are fighting for their coach winning 4 of their last 5. I like the Jaguars in this game because this is the Jags super bowl, a winnable game, at home, on Thursday Night Football, verse a team you've already seen and beaten BUT!!!! I don't think that's the play. I like the UNDER better. First game 22-17, under. Jacksonville hasn't scored more then 23 points in ANY game this year and their offense probably won't do it in this game either, remember MJD is not playing. The Colts, yes their putting up a lot of offense but have scored over 20 points ONCE in their last 4 games. Indy plays New England next week and wait to you hear the media for that match-up if Luck and Brady stay healthy. Emotional win last week, followed by a short week AND travel. Lots of things are pointing me to the under and the cherry, last years two games? 19-13 and 17-3. I am seeing 17-14 in my crystal ball. UNDER.

    Thursday Night Football:

    Colts/Jags under 42 1/2.

Now I have two other plays, one in the association and one in the college gridiron. First to the NBA...

Not having a great start to the NBA capping season but from what I can see on this thread not a lot of people are. Well as we get into the meat of week 2 the cappers should start to figure it out a little so let's improve on the record shall we. 6-7 is gross...

10:35; this is probably a trap game as the spread keeps dropping but I am going to take the Portland Trailblazers tonight at pk'em against Blake and the Clippers. First off, I think the Rose Garden has one of the best home court advantages in all of basketball so RARELY do I ever take a road team in that building. Now all they have to do is win the game as the line has dropped to even. Name me one team in the NBA that you think would dominate the Blazers at home. I can't name so I believe their is good line value here. The Clippers are playing their 3rd game in 4 nights AND played at home LAST night against the Spurs so this is a back to back + travel. They crushed the Spurs last night in front of the home crowd so I think there will be a little bit of a let down tonight on the road. Not so big on long stretches of numbers BUT the Blazers are 24-6 in their last 30 games at home against LAC. Like I said this line is scaring me a little but I have the Blazers winning by 6-7 points. I'll say 105-98.

    NBA pick:

    Portland Pk'em

College gridiron and I also like the OVER in the UL Monroe/Arkansas State game. These teams average 36 and 39 PPG and both give up at least 27 per contest. This is a Thursday game so someone is watching and the teams will empty their bags of tricks to try and impress. It is a LOT of points at 59 1/2 but if both teams score in the 30's which I believe will happen then the over is an automatic.

    NCAA pick:

    Lous-Monroe/Ark. State over 59 1/2

Good Luck to everyone tonight, let's roll!

Nor, my brothers, should we dismiss the fact the Jags have only mustered 34 points in 4 homes this season.

I see Mr. Walter hasn't increased his units on the Jags tonight. If he was really smart, he would grow buffalo balls and take the Colts for 4 units. They will tame the Jags. Well, they have been tamed already anyway. That's why the outcome is so apparent.

    Walt,

Tread carefully my friend. I told you a few times before, do not be stubborn with betting on bad teams on the road. You got burned betting on the Cardinals on the road a number of times last season. Now, after Titans got destroyed by the Bears, you're betting heavy on them again. It does not make sense. And guru66 is correct, Titans certainly were not the right side last weekend. Your stubbornness may cost you again this weekend.

@theguru66 : I just got back from a getaway [ anniversary ] in the mountains and stopped to read this site before heading to Nevada to place some wagers. I agree with your assessment of the Under in tonite's game but almost fell off my chair laughing when you 'chastised' Walt for his whining about the Bear-Titan game. The last time I laughed that hard was the first time I read Walt's recap saying basically that the Titans were the 'right side'
I enjoy this site and Walt does some great analysis but I don't think he really takes into account 'game flow' and how teams change their play according to the score.
Virtually every team goes into a shell when they have a big lead and gives up garbage yards to eliminate any chance of their opponent coming back to win. You are 100% correct that was the case in the Bears-Titans game.
