Washington Redskins (0-0) at Buffalo Bills (0-0)
Line: Redskins by 2.

Thursday, 7:00 ET

The Game. Edge: None.
Outcomes of preseason games rarely have anything to do with the talent on the respective teams, since the majority of the games are played by second-, third- and fourth-stringers.

Some coaches care about winning preseason games, while others do not. Thus, betting on coaches with great preseason records is an easy way to make money.

Here are recent NFL Betting Trends: Preseason Records for every coach in the NFL.

***

Chan Gailey doesn't care about Week 1 of the preseason. His team has scored 20 points in two contests, including a 42-17 blowout loss to the Redskins in 2010. Washington will want Robert Griffin to gain some confidence, so Mike Shanahan may play him more than Gailey will Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Mike Tomlin is one of the most intense coaches in football. He really wants to win these preseason games. Andy Reid, meanwhile, usually doesn't give a damn unless it's Week 3.

UPDATE: I'm dropping this down to one unit because the Eagles may want to win this game for their coach.

I'm adding this pick as of Thursday morning. Mike Smith doesn't care much about the non-Week 3 preseason games; he's a combined 3-9 in Preseason Weeks 1, 2 and 4. John Harbaugh, meanwhile, is 10-2 in exhibition contests the past three years.

Real real quick with one early NBA play before I write the others. 6-6 so far this season in the Association and obviously that stinks but it's early and it's time to get some distance over .500.

7:05, In the beginning of the season I was a big fan of the Suns but they have really showed me nothing so far this season. However with how bad they've been playing they are STILL favored against the Bobcats on the road, that should tell you something. I think they get well against a Bobcats team without Henderson who is out 4 to 6 weeks. Ben Gordon and Walker and Sessions could all be the same guy in different uniforms. That's a lot of shots being hosted from everywhere with nothing that exciting in the middle. I think Gortat goes nutty and the Suns win 99-93. Lay the 3.

    Early NBA pick:

    Suns -3

Good luck and I'll be back in a few with some more.

Sorry, one more thing. Mr. Walter is 0-4 in his prognostications involving the Falcons last four games. He always takes the opponent and he always (almost always anyways) loses. I took the Big Birds on a Super Bowl bet before the season and my $50 will net $1,550 once the whistle sounds on the season. Yes, the 'Aints could win, of course, but I'll take the Big Birds less than a field goal against any team. But don't listen to me; I live near Atlanta.

I forgot to say I covered SEVEN out of eight bets last weekend, so The Great Dorkbeavis has real cred. The only one I lost was Buffalo. I would wax odious on Mr. Walter; however, he did give beneficial insight on a couple of my winners. Can't win 'em all. He did almost scare me away from the Falcons (OK, Mr. Walter should have won that one), but the Birds have flown high most of the year and I keep a cashin' in!! Oh, and I've finally jumped on P. Manning's bandwagon (what is that anyway). Deal with it my brothers. Warning to my colleagues: E. Manning is a perennial dud in Nov., Dec.

I think Mr. Walter is on the pipe. He doesn't think Indy should be favored over anyone on the road. Do I need to look again or isn't Indy 5-3 and have the Jags won more than ONE game? (Good complex rhetorical question - people can learn from me.) And the Lags don't have Mr. Luck. I agree with him regarding a team that has covered two consecutive times as road dogs; they tend to be over-favored. But I would be more concerned if Indy were playing a team that is at least close to a .500 record. I say Mr. Walter will lose and we will win!!! He gets too buried in his deep stacks of statistical scenarios. Bless his heart.

    Solid NBA Pick for Tonight

As a Toronto native and a Raptors fan, I know that games between Raps and Mavs are usually close. But this is the Raps 4th game in 5 nights and their best player Kyle Lowry won't be playing. I'm taking the Mavs tonight.

    Dallas Mavericks -7

Another good reason to fade the Giants is ; they were given every opportunity to win against the Steelers, the refs did everything possible to try and give them the advantage but eventually, just said to themselves, we did all we can if they cant win with this, than to hell with them. Plus the fact that we are getting 7 pts should make this thev play of the week. I do have to give credit to Mike Tomlin though, he made some great coaching decisions, when he went for the td instead of the kick, he knew that nyg would not be able to get out, and they would get another chance to score a major. Which of course they did.
