Detroit Lions (3-0) at Buffalo Bills (1-2)
Line: Lions by 1.

Thursday, 6:30 ET

The Game. Edge: None.
Outcomes of preseason games rarely have anything to do with the talent on the respective teams, since the majority of the games are played by second-, third- and fourth-stringers.

Some coaches care about winning preseason games, while others do not. Thus, betting on coaches with great preseason records is an easy way to make money.

Here are recent NFL Betting Trends: Preseason Records for every coach in the NFL.

***

This is my August NFL Pick of the Month, even though the game is on Sept. 1. Whatever. I'm making this selection on Aug. 30, so it should still be fine.

Jim Schwartz loves winning in the preseason. He's 9-2 in three seasons with the Lions. Chan Gailey, on the other hand, doesn't really care unless it's Week 3. In non-Week 3 exhibition contests, he's 1-4, with his sole win coming against the Colts, who don't give a damn about the preseason either.

We're laying only one point here, so all the Lions have to do is win.

The Colts don't care about winning preseason games; they haven't won a Preseason Week 4 contest since 2003. The only reason this isn't a higher-unit play is because Indianapolis may put extra effort into figuring out whom its Week 1 quarterback will be if Peyton Manning can't go.

Todd Haley thinks preseason games are beneath him, but he's 0-3, so he may want to eke out a win. He did so last year against the Packers. Mike McCarthy is 0-5 in Preseason Week 4 contests. He won't prepare for the Chiefs.

I know the Jets are coming off two days rest. That's why I'm not going to make a big wager on this. But the fact remains that Andy Reid doesn't give a damn about Preseason Week 4, so they won't be prepared. I like getting the points with New York.

Why are the Steelers an underdog? Mike Tomlin has never lost a Preseason Week 4 game. The only reason this isn't a huge wager is because I'm not sure how Ron Rivera will handle this game. Considering he's 1-2 in the preseason thus far, we can assume that he won't really prepare for Pittsburgh.

Mike Munchak is a first-year head coach, so he's a bit of an unknown. However, he's 2-1 in the preseason thus far, with the sole loss coming to the Rams, who love winning exhibition games.

What we do know is that Sean Payton doesn't care about Preseason Week 4 (1-4). The Saints are also coming off three days rest after a win, so I can't see them putting forth any effort against Tennessee.

The money is back baby. Stronger than ever.

    1-10 Unit scale

    Here are tonights picks:

    Hornets -2.5 (3 Units)

I love betting against the Nets. They only look good on the roster. Hornets are playing well, especially at home. Classic public fade here, Nets having 64% of the public opening at +2 and reverse line movement to +2.5. They are 0-6 ATS against southwest division opponents this year.

    76ers - 9.5 (4 Units)

Philly really needs a win bad. The started the season nicely but have hit a slump. They have the bulls coming up next. The really really need to get something going here. No better opponent to have than the Magic. They are freefalling even more. The lost of J.J. redick makes Philly look alot stronger. Predicting a blowout on this, high double digits. Orlando is 2-12 ATS against Atlantic Division opponents, 6-20 ATS when playing a team with a losing record, 0-7 ATS when playing a team with a losing record in the 2nd half of the season.

    Under 197 Pacers/Warriors (1 Unit)

I think people have forgotten that the Pacers have the best defense in the NBA. The only way the warrios have a shot is to play D themselves. And I think they will. Trends slightly favor the over here, but I am sticking with the under. I think this line is a bit inflated.

    Miami Heat -15.5 (2 Units)

Not a big fan of big lines bit I like it here. The Hornets just beat the kings by 15. So why shouldnt Miami? The Kings defensively cannot stop a nosebleed. If LJ and DW come out and play this will be like taking candy from a child.

    Timberwolves +1.5 (3 Units)

This team is underated. The play very hard. The suns are in another slump. Rubio is being a great assist man. Pekovic is an absolute monster down low. I just dont see the suns being able to compete in this one offensively. Take the points on this one as I really like the wolves.

    GLTA
    Sincerely,

    The $

Its TICKLE THIS TAINT TUESDAY and here are some LEANS i am working on thusfar.

    NBA

NETS +2.5 (NO shouldnt be laying pts against a top 5 EAST team)
CAVS +7 (CHI struggles at HOME. BIG spread)
B-CATS/CLIPPS OVER 198.5 (LAC should be around 110 which means CHA only needs 90)

    NCAA

FLA ST -6 (Typical letdown game for WF as they pull the upset of MIAMI. They are awful on the ROAD)

BAMA/AUBURN UNDER 119 (OINK OINK here PIGGY PIGGY)

WISC/NEBRASKA UNDER 113 (more swine please!!!! HUSKERS will be lucky to see the mid 40's when women were "all natural" and had bushes the size of an amazon jungle!)

AIR FORCE -4 (ACADEMY should do work at HOME)

TENN +9 (healthy spread here for a team that struggles on tge ROAD in FLA. TENN just came off a nice road win in 33 OT's against TEX A&M)

I like the HOOSIERS tonight -5. Just hate taking ROAD favorites. Especially of more than a point or 2. I dont expect IU to lose another game in the reg season, as they are sharp right now

    NHL

Been struggling in NHL the past few wks and nothing i really like. Maybe BRUINS ML and WILD ML. Both are pretty juicy at -150 though

GL today guys. Gonna try and limit these plays unless i can fin edges to back all my leans

You play this wagering game of ours long enough and two things always come about in a sports season. 1. Your so COLD, you start believing in BAD voodoo, as in where in the past have I ticked off or insulted some dark sorceress??!! 2. For what ever reason you do the same exact preparation (study), and for a unspecified time period.......YOU CAN'T MAKE A BAD BET!!! As in suddenly you have enriched some all powerful God and now Sports wagering borders on some kind of FANTASY DREAM STATE!!! Anyway.. I hit my third NHL Par in a row 15 minutes ago with EDM/Chi game Under 5.5, Chicago wins 3 to 2 in OT. Congrats to all winners and talk to ya'll tomorrow.

NHL: Three team par with Mont/Ott Under 5, Edm/Chi Under 5.5, one open spot. NBA: going for the "trifecta" teaser win play tonight. Hawks +5, Wash (plus the points, waiting for the public to cease their play on Toronto and then I will put those eight points on top of that.) Wash/Tor game, (same deal, as the Public is pushing the Total higher, when their through, I will tease the total eight points higher and go Under. That's it for me folks, good luck out "there" tonight.

A few weeks ago there was a real a$$hole posting on here. Very childish and rude. Busting balls and posting 20 times a day filling up each page so you had to scroll thru tons of childish bs to even read posts. He would post in other ppls names so tempers started to flare. We lost a lot of good ppl that week. Damn shame. I hope they eventually come back.
