2012 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Tyshawn Taylor


Position: Point Guard

Size: 6-3, 185

School: Kansas, Senior


Strengths:

At his best in transition

Creates for his teammates

Drive and dish ability

Attacking the basket

Can break down defenders in iso situations

Athleticism

Is not afraid of initiating contact inside

Three-point shooting

Active on the defensive end

Length for a point guard

Could probably play either guard spot at the next level



Weaknesses:

Has way too many lapses where he is careless with the basketball

Decision-making

Free-throw shooting

Should be a more effective rebounder than he is

Summary: Taylor is finally living up to his potential after two years of underachieving as the Kansas point guard. However, he still is somewhat frustrating to watch due to his lapses in judgement and poor decision-making. Taylor has first-round talent but more than likely is a second-round pick due to his inconsistencies in being a true point guard.

Player Comparison: Jerryd Bayless. Like Bayless, Taylor is more of a scoring point guard than a true floor general. Both guys are extremely athletic and are at their best when attacking the basket, while also being able to knock down three-pointers. Bayless has played some two guard during his NBA career, and Taylor should be able to as well.
