2011 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Jordan Hamilton


Position: Small Forward

Size: 6-7, 226

School: Texas, Sophomore


Strengths:

Natural scorer

Pure shooter with deep range

Catach and shoot ability

Quick release

Nice pull-up jump shot

Can take defenders off the dribble

Explosive in the open floor

Ability to post-up smaller defenders

Ideal size for an NBA wing player



Weaknesses:

Shot selection, too often a chucker

Relies on his jump shot too much, needs to become a more aggressive driver

Plays too much 1-on-1

Streaky shooter who sometimes checks out mentally if his shot is not falling

A natural talent but still needs to better understand what else is going on on the floor

Free throw shooting

Summary: Hamilton has a natural ability to score the basketball but has gotten the reputation of being a chucker. Based on talent alone though, he could potentially be a lottery pick in 2011 especially if he hones his all-around game.

Player Comparison: Jason Richardson. Richardson is a talented all-around scorer who loves to shoot the three ball just like Hamilton. Hamilton has the potential to be a Richardson-type player who would flourish in a run-and-gun style of offense like Richardson has in both Golden State and Phoenix.
