2010 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Da'Sean Butler
Position: Guard/Forward
Size: 6-7, 205
School: West Virginia, Senior
Strengths: Pure shooter
Sweet stroke with a high release that makes it difficult to block
Great catch and shooter
Nice turnaround jump shot
Moves well without the ball
Can take advantage of smaller defenders by posting them up
Good court vision
Smart defender
High basketball IQ
Outstanding character guy
Mr. Clutch in late-game pressure situations
Weaknesses: Athleticism
Lateral quickness on defense
Not great at attacking the rim off the bounce
Needs to become a better handler
Summary: Butler capped off an outstanding career at West Virginia with a stellar senior season. His basketball IQ is off the charts, he thrives in the big-pressure situations, and can shoot it from deep. However, a lack of athleticism and torn ACL suffered in the Final Four pretty much guarantees he will be a second-round pick.
Player Comparison: Sasha Pavlovic. Pavlovic overcame his lack of athleticism and stayed in the NBA due to his outside shot. Butler will need to follow suit if he hopes to make a career in the NBA.
