Sunday, June 12, 2011 (1-0, $0)

Dallas Mavericks at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 4.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 711-712)

By now, you’ve all probably seen clips of Dwyane Wade and LeChoke James making fun of Dirk Nowitzki’s Game 4 illness. If that doesn’t personify the hubris and douchebaggery of the Miami Heat, I don’t know what does. The Mavericks are the better TEAM, so I’m once again taking the good guys to triumph over evil.

NBA Pick: Mavericks +4.5 (0 Units) — Correct; $0

Thursday, June 9, 2011 (1-0, $0)

Miami Heat at Dallas Mavericks.
Line: Pick.

9:00 PM ET (Game 709-710)

I like this. All the good guys have to do is win. That shouldn’t be so difficult, especially with LeChoke coming up small in the fourth quarter once again.

NBA Pick: Mavericks PK (0 Units) — Correct; $0

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 (1-0, $0)

Miami Heat at Dallas Mavericks.
Line: Mavericks by 2.5.

9:00 PM ET (Game 707-708)

I wouldn’t bet on this game if you paid me – because I’d just lose that money. But I’m rooting for the good guys to hopefully defeat the bad guys in this series.

NBA Pick: Mavericks -2.5 (0 Units) — Correct; $0

Sunday, June 5, 2011 (0-1, $0)

Miami Heat at Dallas Mavericks.
Line: Mavericks by 2.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 705-706)

I’m done betting these NBA playoffs. I think I was at +$4,300 when the regular season ended. I also sucked during the NFL playoffs, so I think I’ll stick to just betting regular seasons from now on.

With a gun to my head, I’d take the Mavericks since they have all the momentum in the wake of that incredible comeback. Also, the extra rest helps an old team like them.

NBA Pick: Mavericks -2.5 (0 Units) — Incorrect; $0

Thursday, June 2, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Dallas Mavericks at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 4.5.

9:00 PM ET (Game 703-704)

There are too many things going against the Mavericks tonight. First of all, they had only one day of rest, which isn’t good for an old team. Second, Dirk Nowitzki tore a tendon in one of his fingers in Game 1, which is obviously horrible news. And third, the officials seem determined to help the Heat win for whatever reason; the refs constantly bailed them out with cheap fouls, and the ESPN announcers were even complaining about it.

It’s apparent now that the Heat is going to win this series. Well, I’m going to say it now – if Miami starts rolling off championships, I’m not going to watch the NBA anymore. I’ve never disliked any team more in any sport. There’s too much hubris and douchebaggery for me to handle. I’d rather watch hockey than the a**hole Heat enjoy success.

NBA Pick: Heat -4.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Tuesday, May 31, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Dallas Mavericks at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 4.5.

9:00 PM ET (Game 701-702)

I’ve had a dozen or so people ask me whom I like in the NBA Finals. When I’ve told them that I think Dallas will win, they’ve all looked at me like I’m crazy. So, if it’s so evident that Miami is going to prevail, why ask me in the first place?

I think the Heat is a bit of a farce. Four of the five Sixers games were close. The Celtics were in shambles in the wake of the Kendrick Perkins trade. And the Bulls were a young team that choked at a high level, as all young teams do. I’m not saying Miami sucks or anything; I just don’t think they’re better than the Mavericks, who seem like a much more complete team.

I say Dallas wins this series in six.

NBA Pick: Mavericks +4.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Thursday, May 26, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Miami Heat at Chicago Bulls.
Line: Bulls by 3.

8:30 PM ET (Game 519-520)

I can’t believe Jason Terry’s dunk didn’t count last night. Not that it would have affected my pick or anything, but I figure some people had Dallas at -6 or even -5.5. The dunk looked good to me, I don’t know.

At any rate, I like the Bulls. It’s really tough to close a team out on the road, so I think Miami ultimately does it in six. It’s no surprise that despite equal action on the game, this spread has risen from -2 to -3. Looks like the sharps are thinking the same thing.

NBA Pick: Bulls -3 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Oklahoma City Thunder at Dallas Mavericks.
Line: Mavericks by 6.5.

9:00 PM ET (Game 517-518)

I’ve been picking the Mavericks all series, and I’m not going to stop now. Oklahoma City is getting horrific point guard play from Russell Westbrook and is consequently turning the ball over too much. The Thunder lost Game 4 in heartbreaking fashion, so I’ll be surprised if it can muster enough energy tonight to prevent this contest from becoming a blowout.

NBA Pick: Mavericks -6.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Mavericks 100, Thunder 96

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 (1-0, +$100)

Chicago Bulls at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 5.

8:30 PM ET (Game 517-518)

I’ll admit when I’m wrong. I was wrong about the Bulls. The Heat is the better team. I didn’t anticipate Chris Bosh playing like an All-Star or Udonis Haslem contributing at all. Miami should be able to win this series in six, and I like them tonight.

NBA Pick: Heat -5 (1 Unit) — Correct; +$100
Heat 101, Bulls 93

Monday, May 23, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder.
Line: Thunder by 4.

9:00 PM ET (Game 513-514)

I don’t see how Oklahoma City can win any games in this series with Russell Westbrook playing the point. Westbrook is a terrific talent, but he’s really an awful point guard. Good point guards don’t jack up a billion threes and turn the ball over seven times per game. Good point guards pass the ball to the best player. Crazy concept. At any rate, I think Dallas closes this series out in five.

NBA Pick: Mavericks +4 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Mavericks 112, Thunder 105

Sunday, May 22, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Chicago Bulls at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 4.5.

8:30 PM ET (Game 511-512)

This line opened at -5.5 and has dropped to -4.5 despite equal action. The smart money is on the Bulls, and that’s whom I’m betting on tonight. Chicago is the better team; it just lost Game 2 because of terrible officiating and unlucky shooting.

NBA Pick: Bulls +4.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Heat 96, Bulls 85

Saturday, May 21, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder.
Line: Thunder by 3.

9:00 PM ET (Game 509-510)

I still believe the Mavericks are the better team. They were taken aback by Oklahoma City’s bench performance in Game 2, but they’ll be ready tonight.

NBA Pick: Mavericks +3 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

Thursday, May 19, 2011 (0-1, -$110)

Oklahoma City Thunder at Dallas Mavericks.
Line: Mavericks by 5.5.

9:00 PM ET (Game 507-508)

I’m going to keep taking the Mavericks because I think they’re the best team in the NBA. However, Game 2 will be much more difficult to win than Game 1.

NBA Pick: Mavericks -5.5 (1 Unit) — Incorrect; -$110
Thunder 106, Mavericks 100

Wednesday, May 18, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Miami Heat at Chicago Bulls.
Line: Bulls by 2.

8:30 PM ET (Game 505-506)

Vegas doesn’t like to change the spread after one game in a playoff series. That’s why this line is still -2. As I wrote on Sunday, the Bulls are the better team, and I don’t think it’s even close. Miami is essentially a group of individuals playing a game of pick-up basketball. That’s why LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh haven’t beaten Chicago at all this season.

NBA Pick: Bulls -2 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Heat 85, Bulls 75

Tuesday, May 17, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Oklahoma City Thunder at Dallas Mavericks.
Line: Mavericks by 6.

9:00 PM ET (Game 503-504)

The Mavericks haven’t played a game in what seems like years, but I think that’s a good thing. They’re the oldest team in the NBA, and eight days rest should help them. They also really match up well against Oklahoma City.

NBA Pick: Mavericks -6 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Mavericks 121, Thunder 112

Sunday, May 15, 2011 (1-1, -$10)

Memphis Grizzlies at Oklahoma City Thunder.
Line: Thunder by 6.5.

3:30 PM ET (Game 753-754)

I can’t say I’m overly confident with either game, but I do have a lean on each. For this one, I think Memphis could possibly win. The Thunder did way too much celebrating in its Game 5 victory. Now, they have all the pressure on their shoulders – and that just might be too much for a young team that has never won a Game 7.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies +6.5 (1 Unit) — Incorrect; -$110
Thunder 105, Grizzlies 90

Miami Heat at Chicago Bulls.
Line: Bulls by 2.

8:00 PM ET (Game 501-502)

Everyone is all over the Heat because of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Well, there’s a reason the Bulls debaclized the Heat during the regular season. They have the superior defense and rebounding. They may also have a chip on their shoulder, as everyone is seemingly writing Miami into an NBA Finals matchup with Dallas.

NBA Pick: Bulls -2 (1 Unit) — Correct; +$100
Bulls 103, Heat 82

Thursday, May 12, 2011 (0-1, -$110)

Chicago Bulls at Atlanta Hawks.
Line: Bulls by 3.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 741-742)

This Bulls team really reminds me of the 2000-01 Sixers team that went to the NBA Finals with Allen Iverson. That team constantly had to pull out seven-game series because Iverson would always be worn out every other game, since he was surrounded with great defensive players who had no idea how to score. Derrick Rose is doing everything for Chicago. He had a terrific Game 5, so he’s bound for a setback tonight before an awesome Game 7.

NBA Pick: Hawks +3.5 (1 Unit) — Incorrect; -$110

Wednesday, May 11, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Memphis Grizzlies at Oklahoma City Thunder.
Line: Thunder by 6.5.

9:30 PM ET (Game 739-740)

The last two teams to win a triple-overtime playoff game lost the ensuing contest. Granted, one instance was Phoenix against Michael Jordan’s Bulls, but I just don’t think that Memphis will be flat tonight. The Grizzlies have pretty much outplayed the Thunder for most of this series, and I expect that to continue.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies +6.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Thunder 99, Grizzlies 72

Tuesday, May 10, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Atlanta Hawks at Chicago Bulls.
Line: Bulls by 8.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 733-734)

The Hawks beat the Bulls on Sunday night because Derrick Rose sucked and Josh Smith had the game of his life. Call me crazy, but I don’t see that happening again. I’m still going with Chicago.

NBA Pick: Bulls -8.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Bulls 95, Hawks 83

Sunday, May 8, 2011 (1-1, -$20)

Los Angeles Lakers at Dallas Mavericks.
Line: Mavericks by 2.

3:30 PM ET (Game 725-726)

People continue to bet the Lakers, refusing to believe that they’re done. They’re done. The smart money keeps pouring in on Dallas, as the Mavericks opened at -1.5 and are now -2, or -2.5 in some places.

NBA Pick: Mavericks -2 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Mavericks 122, Lakers 86

Chicago Bulls at Atlanta Hawks.
Line: Bulls by 3.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 727-728)

Two picks today because I may not have one tomorrow. The Bulls have found their groove and are now the unstoppable force everyone expected them to be. The Hawks are playing like crap, and I don’t think they stand a chance.

NBA Pick: Bulls -3.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Hawks 100, Bulls 88

Saturday, May 7, 2011 (0-1, -$110)

Miami Heat at Boston Celtics.
Line: Celtics by 3.

8:00 PM ET (Game 723-724)

This is a small play on Miami. I think we’re finally seeing the Celtics look like the team that struggled down the stretch. If the Knicks didn’t just give up in Games 3 and 4, we would have noticed this from Boston a couple of weeks earlier.

NBA Pick: Heat +3 (1 Unit) — Incorrect; -$110
Celtics 97, Heat 81

Friday, May 6, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Los Angeles Lakers at Dallas Mavericks.
Line: Mavericks by 2.

9:30 PM ET (Game 719-720)

I’m really surprised the public is still betting the Lakers. Two-thirds of the action is on Los Angeles, yet the line has moved from -1.5 to -2. The smart money is on Dallas – and for good reason. The Mavericks are the better team, and the Lakers simply can’t match up against them.

NBA Pick: Mavericks -2 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Mavericks 98, Lakers 92

Wednesday, May 4, 2011 (1-1, -$20)

Atlanta Hawks at Chicago Bulls.
Line: Bulls by 8.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 713-714)

If the home team loses Game 1 in a series, you always bet them in Game 2. The last time Chicago lost in the playoffs, they came back and thrashed the Pacers.

NBA Pick: Bulls -8.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Bulls 86, Hawks 73

Dallas Mavericks at Los Angeles Lakers.
Line: Lakers by 7.

10:30 PM ET (Game 715-716)

Once again, I’m going with the home team after a loss.

NBA Pick: Lakers -7 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Mavericks 93, Lakers 81

Tuesday, May 3, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Memphis Grizzlies at Oklahoma City Thunder.
Line: Thunder by 6.5.

9:30 PM ET (Game 711-712)

The public money is on Memphis, but I’m taking the Thunder. I can’t see them lose two in a row at home.

NBA Pick: Thunder -6.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Thunder 111, Grizzlies 102

Sunday, May 1, 2011 (0-1, -$110)

Boston Celtics at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 5.

3:30 PM ET (Game 701-702)

I really don’t have a feel for any of these series to be honest. I do have the feeling that Boston will win one of these two games in Miami. I didn’t think the Celtics were any good following the Kendrick Perkins trade – and they weren’t – but they’ve really found their groove when they dismantled the Knicks in New York. Plus, the Heat wasn’t very impressive against the 76ers.

NBA Pick: Celtics +5 (1 Unit) — Incorrect; -$110
Heat 99, Celtics 90

Wednesday, April 27, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Denver Nuggets at Oklahoma City Thunder.
Line: Thunder by 7.

9:30 PM ET (Game 527-528)

It looks like this is the end of the road for the Nuggets. The Thunder should bounce back off a loss and close out this series tonight.

NBA Pick: Thunder -7 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Tuesday, April 26, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Indiana Pacers at Chicago Bulls.
Line: Bulls by 9.

8:00 PM ET (Game 519-520)

Biggest B.S. push ever. The Nuggets led the whole game, but they just had to miss several free throws down the stretch, didn’t they?

The Pacers are down 3-1, but they’re 4-0 against the spread in this series. I don’t see why they can’t cover again, especially with Derrick Rose banged up.

NBA Pick: Pacers +9 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Bulls 116, Pacers 89

Monday, April 25, 2011 (0-0-1, $0)

Oklahoma City Thunder at Denver Nuggets.
Line: Nuggets by 3.

10:30 PM ET (Game 513-514)

Yeah, so, never mind about the Knicks trying. I’d say they put 20 percent effort into it, but their defense was horrific. I swear, the Celtics had someone shooting an open jumper on every single possession. I tweeted, “The Knicks’ plan to not cover any of the Boston Celtics players is backfiring for some reason.”

Let’s take a team that will try today. I’m picking the Nuggets. Oklahoma City is very talented, but they just don’t have the experience to close out a team on the road just yet. With its back against the wall, Denver should be able to win Game 4.

NBA Pick: Nuggets -3 (2 Units) — Push; $0
Nuggets 104, Thunder 101

Sunday, April 24, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Boston Celtics at New York Knicks.
Line: Celtics by 4.

3:30 PM ET (Game 503-504)

I think this spread is ridiculous. How do the Knicks go from being -3.5 to +4 in just two days? I know they were blown out, but they didn’t try for some reason. I can’t see them putting forth zero effort again, especially in an elimination game.

NBA Pick: Knicks +4 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Knicks are pathetic

Saturday, April 23, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

San Antonio Spurs at Memphis Grizzlies.
Line: Grizzlies by 2.

7:30 PM ET (Game 749-750)

New York’s lack of effort last night was one of the most pathetic displays I’ve ever seen. Why didn’t they try at all? They looked like they were sleep-walking in the first quarter. I really wish these athletes would shoot me an e-mail, “Hey Walt, I noticed you’re betting on us tonight, but you might not want to do that because we’re going to play like we’re high.”

At any rate, I like the Grizzlies. This line opened at pick and rose to -2 despite the action on San Antonio. The sharps like this Memphis team that has playing great basketball recently. Plus, the Spurs really aren’t that good.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies -2 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Grizzlies 91, Spurs 88

Friday, April 22, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Boston Celtics at New York Knicks.
Line: Knicks by 3.5.

7:00 PM ET (Game 739-740)

I still think the Knicks are the better team – they should be up 2-0 in this series – but that’s not why I’m picking them tonight. Generally, teams that play close on the road in Games 1 and 2 in a first-round series rebound with a strong Game 3 performance.

NBA Pick: Knicks -3.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Celtics 113, Knicks 96

Thursday, April 21, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Miami Heat at Philadelphia 76ers.
Line: Heat by 4.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 735-736)

I wonder how many more times I can lose the spread by three or fewer points. I might be approaching some sort of record.

I’m taking the Heat tonight. They’re just way more talented than the Sixers. I can’t see Philly winning a game.

NBA Pick: Heat -4.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Heat 100, 76ers 94

Wednesday, April 20, 2011 (0-2, -$440)

Memphis Grizzlies at San Antonio Spurs.
Line: Spurs by 8.5.

8:30 PM ET (Game 729-730)

In the NBA playoffs, the home team is an automatic play if it loses Game 1. This didn’t work yesterday, but nothing hits 100 percent of the time. There’s tons of action on Memphis, but San Antonio is the right side.

NBA Pick: Spurs -8.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Spurs 93, Grizzlies 87

New Orleans Hornets at Los Angeles Lakers.
Line: Lakers by 11.5.

10:30 PM ET (Game 731-732)

The public is pounding the Hornets, but I’m taking the Lakers for the same reason I’m betting San Antonio.

NBA Pick: Lakers -11.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Lakers 87, Hornets 78

Tuesday, April 19, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic.
Line: Magic by 9.

7:30 PM ET (Game 723-724)

In the NBA playoffs, the home team is an automatic play if it loses Game 1. That’s why despite all the action on Atlanta, the line has risen from -8 to -9 or -9.5.

NBA Pick: Magic -9 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Magic 88, Hawks 82

Monday, April 18, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Indiana Pacers at Chicago Bulls.
Line: Bulls by 12.

9:30 PM ET (Game 719-720)

I just looked back at the past 10 years of the NBA playoffs. I noticed that when the top seed wins the first game in the 1-8 or 2-7 battles, the point differential of Game 2 is very close to that of Game 1. In other words, if Game 1 was a blowout, Game 2 usually was as well. If Game 1 was close, Game 2 usually was within a few points too.

In short, I’m taking the points.

NBA Pick: Pacers +12 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Bulls 96, Pacers 90

Sunday, April 17, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

New York Knicks at Boston Celtics.
Line: Celtics by 6.

7:00 PM ET (Game 713-714)

I don’t understand why everyone thinks the Celtics are going to win this series easily. Bill Simmons and all of his guests on the B.S. Report pretty much dismissed this as a given.

The Knicks are the better team. Boston has been absolutely abysmal since losing Kendrick Perkins. They’re 9-17 against the spread since the Perkins trade – and 3-5 straight up if favored over a team currently in the playoffs.

New York, meanwhile, has found its stride after early chemistry issues.

NBA Pick: Knicks +6 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Celtics 87, Knicks 85

Saturday, April 16, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Philadelphia 76ers at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 10.5.

3:30 PM ET (Game 703-704)

I really like the Bulls, but I’m writing this at 12:45 and the game starts at 1:05, so I didn’t think giving out that pick would be fair. Instead, I’m taking the Heat. I’ll be rooting for the 76ers, but they’re just not good enough to compete with Miami. The talent differential is just way too vast.

NBA Pick: Heat -10.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Heat 97, 76ers 89

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 (1-0, +$100)

Atlanta Hawks at Charlotte Bobcats.
Line: Bobcats by 2.

8:00 PM ET (Game 503-504)

Do not bet heavily today. This is the final day of the regular season, which is like Week 17 in the NFL. Anything can happen. I sort of like Charlotte today because the Hawks are coming off a tough loss to the Heat, but I’m definitely not going big here.

NBA Pick: Bobcats -2 (1 Unit) — Correct; +$100
Bobcats 96, Hawks 85

Tuesday, April 12, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers.
Line: Lakers by 7.

10:30 PM ET (Game 705-706)

I don’t get how the Lakers are favored by seven. They’re playing like crap right now. The Spurs will be out for revenge after Los Angeles beat them by 16 in San Antonio a month ago.

NBA Pick: Spurs +7 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Lakers 102, Spurs 93

Monday, April 11, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Utah Jazz at New Orleans Hornets.
Line: Hornets by 7.

8:00 PM ET (Game 513-514)

Utah’s season is over. They battled the Spurs really tough Saturday night, but came up short. They’ll probably mail this game in.

NBA Pick: Hornets -7 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Jazz 90, Hornets 78

Sunday, April 10, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Detroit Pistons at Charlotte Bobcats.
Line: Bobcats by 1.5.

6:00 PM ET (Game 705-706)

I fully expect the Bobcats to mail this one in. Coming off two tough losses to the Magic and Heat, they won’t have any incentive to play the Pistons.

NBA Pick: Pistons +1.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Pistons 112, Bobcats 101

Saturday, April 9, 2011 (1-1, -$20)

Atlanta Hawks at Washington Bullets.
Line: Hawks by 2.5.

7:00 PM ET (Game 501-502)

This might be the squarest play of all time, but there won’t be much action on this game, so whatever. The Bullets are coming off an emotional loss to the Celtics and won’t have any incentive to play the Hawks.

NBA Pick: Hawks -2.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Bullets 115, Hawks 83

Los Angeles Clippers at Houston Rockets.
Line: Rockets by 8.

8:30 PM ET (Game 505-506)

Talk about having no incentive – the Clippers are playing their fourth game in five nights, and just had a tough loss at Dallas.

NBA Pick: Rockets -8 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Rockets 99, Clippers 78

Friday, April 8, 2011 (1-1, -$20)

Atlanta Hawks at Indiana Pacers.
Line: Pacers by 6.

7:00 PM ET (Game 705-706)

The Hawks are coming off an emotional loss to the Spurs, so I don’t think they’ll be up for Indiana. The Pacers, meanwhile, have won four of five, including a victory over Boston.

NBA Pick: Pacers -6 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Pacers 114, Hawks 102

Sacramento Kings at Memphis Grizzlies.
Line: Grizzlies by 9.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 715-716)

The Kings are another team coming off a tough loss to the Spurs. What do they care about this game in Memphis?

NBA Pick: Grizzlies -9.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Grizzlies 101, Kings 96

Wednesday, April 6, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

New York Knicks at Philadelphia 76ers.
Line: 76ers by 5.5.

7:00 PM ET (Game 701-702)

The Knicks are playing great basketball lately. I can’t say the same for the Sixers, who just suffered an emotional loss at Boston.

NBA Pick: Knicks +5.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Knicks 97, 76ers 92

Tuesday, April 5, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Charlotte Bobcats at Cleveland Cavaliers.
Line: Bobcats by 1.5.

7:00 PM ET (Game 659-660)

The Bobcats have everything to play for. They’re just two games back of the Pacers for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers, on the other hand, will be completely out of it after suffering a tough loss to the Knicks a couple of nights ago.

NBA Pick: Bobcats -1.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Cavaliers 99, Bobcats 89

Sunday, April 3, 2011 (0-1, -$110)

Detroit Pistons at Boston Celtics.
Line: Celtics by 10.5.

6:00 PM ET (Game 513-514)

I don’t really love any games today. I sort of like the Celtics; they’ve sucked since the Kendrick Perkins trade, and I don’t think they deserve to be favored by double digits over anyone right now.

NBA Pick: Pistons +10.5 (1 Unit) — Incorrect; -$110
Celtics 101, Pistons 90

Saturday, April 2, 2011 (2-0, +$400)

Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies.
Line: Grizzlies by 14.

8:00 PM ET (Game 801-802)

The Timberwolves have suffered a string of emotional losses to the Mavericks, Thunder, Celtics, Bulls and Heat. They’re running on fumes.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies -14 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Grizzlies 106, Timberwolves 89

Dallas Mavericks at Golden State Warriors.
Line: Mavericks by 5.5.

10:30 PM ET (Game 807-808)

After Thursday’s loss to the Lakers, I can’t imagine the Mavericks being remotely interested in playing Golden State, especially considering that they destroyed the Warriors in their previous matchup.

NBA Pick: Warriors +5.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Warriors 99, Mavericks 92

Friday, April 1, 2011 (2-0, +$400)

New Jersey Nets at Philadelphia 76ers.
Line: 76ers by 9.5.

7:00 PM ET (Game 501-502)

The Nets brought the kitchen sink against the Knicks. They led by double digits at halftime, but somehow lost. I don’t think they’ll be getting up for the 76ers.

NBA Pick: 76ers -9.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
76ers 115, Nets 90

Los Angeles Clippers at Phoenix Suns.
Line: Suns by 5.

10:00 PM ET (Game 521-522)

Like the Nets, the Clippers are coming off an emotional loss to a superior opponent (Mavericks) and won’t have the energy tonight.

NBA Pick: Suns -5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Suns 111, Clippers 98

Wednesday, March 30, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Portland Trailblazers at New Orleans Hornets.
Line: Trailblazers by 1.

8:00 PM ET (Game 519-520)

The Horners just suffered an emotional loss to the Lakers, so I don’t think they’ll be able to get up for the hot Trailblazers.

NBA Pick: Trailblazers -1 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Hornets 95, Trailblazers 91

Monday, March 28, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Milwaukee Bucks at Charlotte Bobcats.
Line: Bobcats by 1.5.

7:00 PM ET (Game 731-732)

These two teams are fighting for a playoff spot, but I expect the Bobcats to have more energy tonight because the Bucks are coming off an emotional loss to the Bulls.

NBA Pick: Bobcats -1.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Bobcats 87, Bucks 86

Sunday, March 27, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

New Orleans Hornets at Los Angeles Lakers.
Line: Lakers by 8.5.

9:30 PM ET (Game 715-716)

The Lakers were on fire for a while after the All-Star break, but they’ve cooled off. They’ve been winning their games, but they’ve barely scraped by the likes of the Clippers and Timberwolves. The Hornets, meanwhile, are 6-3 in their previous nine, and two of their losses were by 4 to the Celtics and 8 at Chicago.

New Orleans is just 1-4 straight up in Los Angeles the past three years, but 4-1 against the spread. The Lakers figure to be complacent; they’re just 1-7 ATS as hosts after playing three or more consecutive home games this year.

NBA Pick: Hornets +8.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Lakers 102, Hornets 84

Saturday, March 26, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

New York Knicks at Charlotte Bobcats.
Line: Knicks by 4.5.

7:00 PM ET (Game 501-502)

Why are the Knicks -4.5 on the road, and more importantly, why are people betting on them? The Knicks stink. I don’t think they’re much better than the Bobcats, who are fighting for a playoff spot.

NBA Pick: Bobcats +4.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Bobcats 114, Knicks 106

Friday, March 25, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Milwaukee Bucks at New York Knicks.
Line: Knicks by 6.

7:30 PM ET (Game 855-856)

The Knicks are playing like crap right now. They’re coming off two emotional losses to the Celtics and Magic, so I don’t see them getting up for the Bucks, who are fighting for their playoff lives.

NBA Pick: Bucks +6 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Bucks 102, Knicks 96

Thursday, March 24, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

New Orleans Hornets at Utah Jazz.
Line: Hornets by 4.5.

9:00 PM ET (Game 803-804)

The Hornets just suffered an emotional loss to the Celtics, so there could be a hangover effect tonight.

NBA Pick: Jazz +4.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Hornets 121, Jazz 117

Wednesday, March 23, 2011 (1-1, -$20)

Orlando Magic at New York Knicks.
Line: Magic by 1.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 765-766)

Remember a few weeks ago when the Heat were losing every game and everyone said they sucked? Then, they won as home underdogs against the Spurs, which shut everyone up. I think the same thing will happen tonight with the Knicks. New York doesn’t suck. I do think Carmelo Anthony is really overrated, but the Knicks are a pretty good team. With everyone betting on Orlando, I’m pretty confident that New York will “shock” everyone just as Miami did.

NBA Pick: Knicks +1.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Magic 111, Knicks 99

Golden State Warriors at Houston Rockets.
Line: Rockets by 8.5.

8:30 PM ET (Game 767-768)

The Warriors are coming off a pair of emotional losses to the Mavericks and Spurs, so they have to be running on fumes. The Rockets are on fire, and should be able to cover this spread easily.

NBA Pick: Rockets -8.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Rockets 131, Warriors 112

Monday, March 21, 2011 (0-1, -$330)

Toronto Raptors at Denver Nuggets.
Line: Nuggets by 12.5.

9:00 PM ET (Game 613-614)

The Nuggets, playing in their sixth game in 10 days, are coming off a pair of emotional losses to the Magic and Heat. I doubt they’ll be up for the suddenly hot Raptors.

NBA Pick: Raptors +12.5 (3 Units) — Incorrect; -$330
Nuggets 123, Raptors 90

Sunday, March 20, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Detroit Pistons at Atlanta Hawks.
Line: Hawks by 7.5.

2:00 PM ET (Game 703-704)

The Hawks just had an emotional loss against the Heat. I don’t think they’ll be completely focused against the Pistons.

NBA Pick: Pistons +7.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Hawks 104, Pistons 96

Saturday, March 19, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Boston Celtics at New Orleans Hornets.
Line: Celtics by 1.

8:00 PM ET (Game 505-506)

Picking Boston to beat the Hornets by two or more seems so easy, doesn’t it? Well, all the people betting the Celtics aren’t taking two things into account: First, the Celtics haven’t been good since the Kendrick Perkins trade. And second, they’re very tired; this is their sixth contest in 10 nights. An old team like Boston really sucks in back-to-back games.

NBA Pick: Hornets +1 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Celtics 89, Hornets 85

Friday, March 18, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Golden State Warriors at Phoenix Suns.
Line: Suns by 5.5.

10:00 PM ET (Game 819-820)

The Warriors battled the Mavericks tough, but lost their big lead at the very end. I don’t think they’ll be up for playing Phoenix.

NBA Pick: Suns -5.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Suns 108, Warriors 97

Wednesday, March 16, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Orlando Magic at Milwaukee Bucks.
Line: Magic by 6.

8:00 PM ET (Game 607-608)

The Magic just suffered an emotional loss against the Lakers. After traveling back east to Milwaukee, I expect them to be sluggish tonight.

NBA Pick: Bucks +6 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Magic 93, Bucks 89 (OT)

Tuesday, March 15, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Dallas Mavericks at Portland Trailblazers.
Line: Mavericks by 2.

10:00 PM ET (Game 537-538)

The Blazers will be up for playing Dallas. However, the Mavericks won’t be completely focused for this matchup; they’re coming off an emotional loss against the Lakers.

NBA Pick: Blazers +2 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Blazers 104, Mavericks 101

Monday, March 14, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Los Angeles Clippers at Memphis Grizzlies.
Line: Grizzlies by 5.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 509-510)

The Grizzlies were just humiliated by the Heat a couple of nights ago. I don’t think they’ll respond well against a surging Clippers squad.

NBA Pick: Clippers +5.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Grizzlies 105, Clippers 82

Sunday, March 13, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Indiana Pacers at New York Knicks.
Line: Knicks by 8.5.

6:00 PM ET (Game 877-878)

The Knicks just suffered a tough loss against the Mavericks. They won’t be anywhere near 100 percent against the Pacers.

NBA Pick: Pacers +8.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Pacers 106, Knicks 93

Saturday, March 12, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Sacramento Kings at New Orleans Hornets.
Line: Hornets by 10.

8:00 PM ET (Game 507-508)

The Kings are coming off two emotional losses to the Magic and Spurs. They have to be running out of gas at this point.

NBA Pick: Hornets -10 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Hornets 115, Kings 103

Friday, March 11, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Portland Trailblazers at Charlotte Bobcats.
Line: Trailblazers by 4.5.

7:00 PM ET (Game 801-802)

I usually don’t like to make square picks like this, but I’m taking the Blazers. I think they’re going to ride the momenum off clobbering Miami, while the Bobcats will continue to struggle. Charlotte will be flat after an emotional loss to Chicago.

NBA Pick: Trailblazers -4.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Bobcats 97, Trailblazers 92

Wednesday, March 9, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Indiana Pacers at Minnesota Timberwolves.
Line: Timberwolves by 1.

Timberwolves 101, Pacers 75

Tuesday, March 8, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Milwaukee Bucks at Washington Bullets.

7:00 PM ET (Game 551-552)

The Bucks just suffered a very emotional loss to the Celtics on Sunday. I can’t see them getting up for this game.

NBA Pick: Bullets +1 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Bucks 95, Bullets 76

Monday, March 7, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

New Orleans Hornets at Chicago Bulls.
Line: Bulls by 10.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 507-508)

Chris Paul is out with a concussion, so I expect the Hornets to give 110 percent against Chicago. The Bulls, meanwhile, won’t be anywhere near full strength. This is their third game in four nights, and they’re coming off two consecutive upset victories against the Florida teams.

NBA Pick: Hornets +10.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Bulls 85, Hornets 77

Sunday, March 6, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Golden State Warriors at Philadelphia 76ers.
Line: 76ers by 7.

6:00 PM ET (Game 805-806)

The Warriors just battled the Celtics to the very end but came up a bit short. They won’t have the energy to play the 76ers this evening.

NBA Pick: 76ers -7 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
76ers 125, Warriors 117 (OT)

Saturday, March 5, 2011 (2-0, +$400)

Indiana Pacers at Houston Rockets.
Line: Rockets by 6.

The Pacers are coming off a tough loss to the Mavericks. I don’t see them getting up for Houston.

NBA Pick: Rockets -6 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Rockets 112, Pacers 95

Charlotte Bobcats at Portland Trailblazers.
Line: Trailblazers by 10.5.

10:00 PM ET (Game 509-510)

Like the Pacers, the Bobcats should be flat. They spent all their energy against the Lakers last night.

NBA Pick: Trailblazers -10.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Trailblazers 93, Bobcats 69

Friday, March 4, 2011 (0-2, -$440)

New Orleans Hornets at Memphis Grizzlies.
Line: Grizzlies by 5.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 813-814)

The Hornets may have the superior record, but they’re definitely not playing better basketball than the Grizzlies. New Orleans is 4-12 in its previous 16 games and is coming off an emotional loss to the Knicks. Meanwhile, Memphis is 12-4 in the same span and just had a great win over San Antonio. I’m taking the red-hot Grizzlies.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies -5.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Hornets 98, Grizzlies 91

Phoenix Suns at Milwaukee Bucks.
Line: Suns by 2.5.

8:30 PM ET (Game 817-818)

The Suns just suffered a tough loss to the Celtics. I don’t see them getting up for the lowly Bucks.

NBA Pick: Bucks +2.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Suns 102, Bucks 88

Thursday, March 3, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Denver Nuggets at Utah Jazz.
Line: Jazz by 3.5.

10:30 PM ET (Game 503-504)

This is such a square pick, but I like the Nuggets. They’ve predictably been on fire since trading their overrated ball-hog, while the Jazz are capsizing. Utah is coming off an emotional loss to Boston and won’t be up for playing Denver.

NBA Pick: Nuggets +3.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Nuggets 103, Jazz 101

Wednesday, March 2, 2011 (1-1, -$130)

Indiana Pacers at Oklahoma City Thunder.
Line: Thunder by 8.

8:00 PM ET (Game 713-714)

The Thunder tried their best to avenge their playoff loss to the Lakers on Sunday. Instead, they suffered another heart-breaking defeat. I don’t think they’ll be up for the Pacers.

NBA Pick: Pacers +8 (3 Units) — Incorrect; -$330
Thunder 113, Pacers 89

Charlotte Bobcats at Denver Nuggets.
Line: Nuggets by 6.5.

9:00 PM ET (Game 715-716)

The Bobcats just suffered a tough loss against the Magic. They won’t have the energy to battle the Nuggets, who are on fire right now.

NBA Pick: Nuggets -6.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Nuggets 120, Bobcats 80

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Detroit Pistons at Milwaukee Bucks.
Line: Bucks by 4.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 513-514)

The Bucks are coming off a really tough loss to the Bulls. I don’t think they’ll get up to the Pistons, who are suddenly playing well after all of their players boycotted practice on Friday.

NBA Pick: Pistons +4.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Bucks 92, Pistons 90

Monday, February 28, 2011

Los Angeles Clippers at Sacramento Kings.
Line: Pick.

10:00 PM ET (Game 709-710)

NBA Pick: Kings PK (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Kings 105, Clippers 99

Saturday, February 26, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

New Jersey Nets at Houston Rockets.
Line: Rockets by 8.5.

8:30 PM ET (Game 509-510)

The Rockets should be able to take care of business against the Nets. New Jersey is coming off an emotional loss to the Spurs.

NBA Pick: Rockets -8.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Rockets 123, Nets 108

Friday, February 25, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Oklahoma City Thunder at Orlando Magic.
Line: Magic by 7.

8:00 PM ET (Game 815-816)

As we found out on Wednesday, the Magic suck. Well, they don’t suck, but they’re clearly not among the elite in the NBA. With that in mind, I don’t know why they’re favored by seven over the Thunder. Here’s a telling stat: Orlando is 8-14 against the spread this year versus teams with winning records (18-17 otherwise).

NBA Pick: Thunder +7 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Magic 111, Thunder 88

Wednesday, February 23, 2011 (1-1, -$20)

Sacramento Kings at Orlando Magic.
Line: Magic by 14.

7:00 PM ET (Game 709-710)

All the great teams won big yesterday. The Heat, Lakers, Celtics and Thunder all destroyed their competition. Now, it’s Orlando’s turn to make a statement.

NBA Pick: Magic -14 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Kings 111, Magic 105 (WTF?)

Atlanta Hawks at Phoenix Suns.
Line: Suns by 3.

9:00 PM ET (Game 721-722)

The Lakers thrashed Atlanta last night. I don’t know how the Hawks rebound off that loss. I can’t see them getting up for Phoenix.

NBA Pick: Suns -3 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Suns 105, Hawks 97

Tuesday, February 22, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Sacramento Kings at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 13.

7:30 PM ET (Game 507-508)

The Heat are 23-4 against the spread in their previous 27 meetings against the Kings. Isn’t that nuts? Miami should crush this Sacramento team that will likely be missing Tyreke Evans. They may want to make a statement now that the Knicks acquired Carmelo Anthony.

NBA Pick: Heat -13 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Heat 117, Raptors 97

Wednesday, February 16, 2011 (1-1, -$20)

Miami Heat at Toronto Raptors.
Line: Heat by 9.

7:00 PM ET (Game 703-704)

I’m not one to lay tons of points on the road, but I’m going to make an exception here. I can’t help but think back to when the Heat played their first game at Cleveland. They made sure they embarrassed the Cavaliers for LeBron James. Well, this is their first trip to Toronto since Chris Bosh left the Raptors. They’ll play hard for him as well.

NBA Pick: Heat -9 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Heat 103, Raptors 95

Indiana Pacers at Detroit Pistons.
Line: Pacers by 1.5.

7:30 PM ET (Game 705-706)

It seems kind of silly that a mediocre team like Pacers would be road favorites against a team not named the Cavaliers. Indiana is coming off an emotional loss to Miami last night.

NBA Pick: Pistons +1.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Pistons 115, Pacers 109

Tuesday, February 15, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

New Orleans Hornets at Golden State Warriors.
Line: Warriors by 2.

10:30 PM ET (Game 511-512)

The Hornets are just 2-7 in their previous nine games. They’re coming off a tough loss to the Bulls, and may not be up for the Warriors, who are coming off a big victory against Oklahoma City.

NBA Pick: Warriors -2 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Warriors 102, Hornets 89

Monday, February 14, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Los Angeles Lakers at Charlotte Bobcats.
Line: Lakers by 5.

7:00 PM ET (Game 703-704)

Not only are the Lakers coming off a tough loss to the Magic; this is their fourth game in five nights. Los Angeles is a really old team and the players have to be worn out. The Bobcats are coming off an upset win in Atlanta and will be up for the Lakers.

NBA Pick: Bobcats +5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Bobcats 109, Lakers 89

Sunday, February 13, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Miami Heat at Boston Celtics.
Line: Heat by 1.5.

1:00 PM ET (Game 801-802)

I feel like this is a statement game for the Heat. They’re playing so well right now, and this is their chance to prove that they’re the best team in the East after losing to Boston twice earlier in the year.

NBA Pick: Heat -1.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Saturday, February 12, 2011 (0-1, -$330)

New York Knicks at New Jersey Nets.
Line: Knicks by 3.

7:00 PM ET (Game 501-502)

Tough loss for the Knicks last night – they put a lot into battling the Lakers, but came up way short. They’ll have trouble getting up for the Nets, who have won two in a row.

NBA Pick: Nets +3 (3 Units) — Incorrect; -$330
Knicks 105, Nets 95

Friday, February 11, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Portland Trailblazers at Toronto Raptors.
Line: Trailblazers by 3.

7:00 PM ET (Game 809-810)

The Trailblazers have some momentum thanks to a win against the Bulls, so they should have no problem with the Raptors, who are coming off an emotional loss to the Spurs.

NBA Pick: Trailblazers -3 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Trailblazers 102, Raptors 96

Thursday, February 10, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Dallas Mavericks at Denver Nuggets.
Line: Nuggets by 3.

10:30 PM ET (Game 505-506)

The Nuggets are a team in disarray. They’ve dropped five of seven, and Carmelo Anthony was complaining about not getting the ball on the final play of the game last night. It appears as though all the Melo-drama is really weighing down this Denver team.

NBA Pick: Mavericks +3 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Nuggets 121, Mavericks 120

Wednesday, February 9, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Charlotte Bobcats at Indiana Pacers.
Line: Pacers by 4.

7:00 PM ET (Game 711-712)

The Pacers just had a tough loss against the Heat. They won’t be able to get up for the Bobcats, who are playing well right now.

NBA Pick: Bobcats +4 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Pacers 104, Bobcats 103

Tuesday, February 8, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Memphis Grizzlies at Oklahoma City Thunder.
Line: Thunder by 7.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 511-512)

The Grizzlies are coming off an emotional loss to the Lakers last night. I don’t think they’ll be 100 percent for the hot Thunder.

NBA Pick: Thunder -7.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Grizzlies 105, Thunder 101

Monday, February 7, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Minnesota Timberwolves at New Orleans Hornets.
Line: Hornets by 8.5.

8:00 PM ET (Game 703-704)

The Hornets are playing like crap. They’ve dropped four of five, and are coming off an emotional loss to the Lakers. I don’t see them generating much energy tonight.

NBA Pick: Timberwolves +8.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Timberwolves 104, Hornets 92

Saturday, February 5, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Atlanta Hawks at Washington Bullets.
Line: Hawks by 3.

7:00 PM ET (Game 503-504)

Though the Bullets lost by 18 points last night, they battled the Magic tough until the fourth quarter. I don’t think they’ll be up for the Hawks.

NBA Pick: Hawks -3 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Hawks 99, Bullets 92

Friday, February 4, 2011 (0-1, -$220)

Orlando Magic at Washington Bullets.
Line: Magic by 5.5.

7:00 PM ET

The Magic aren’t playing very good basketball right now, having lost four of six. They just had a tough loss to the Heat last night, so getting up for Washington will be difficult. The Bullets, meanwhile, are renown for sucking on the road, but are pretty good at home (13-10).

NBA Pick: Bullets +5.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Magic 110, Bullets 92

Wednesday, February 2, 2011 (0-2, -$550)

Toronto Raptors at Atlanta Hawks.

7:00 PM ET

The Hawks aren’t playing good basketball right now; they’re coming off a loss and have dropped three of five. The Raptors are getting too many points.

Rockets 97, Jazz 96

Tuesday, February 1, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

San Antonio Spurs at Portland Trailblazers.
Line: Spurs by 5.

10:00 PM ET

This is a potential look-ahead spot for the Spurs, who have the Lakers on Thursday. The Blazers are playing in just their third game in 10 days, so they’ll be ready for San Antonio.

NBA Pick: Trailblazers +5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Blazers 99, Spurs 86

Monday, January 31, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Washington Bullets at Dallas Mavericks.
Line: Mavericks by 9.5.

The Bullets really suck on the road. Meanwhile, it seems like the Mavericks have gotten over their swoon and are playing great basketball again. Yet, this line doesn’t indicate that; Washington was recently +7.5 at New York, so is Dallas just two points better than the Knicks? I don’t think so.

NBA Pick: Mavericks -9.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Mavericks 102, Bullets 92

Sunday, January 30, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Saturday, January 29, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Indiana Pacers at Chicago Bulls.
Line: Bulls by 8.

The Bulls are coming off a huge win at home against Orlando. But that’s a good thing – in their previous two big home victories (over Boston and Miami), they went on to beat the Pistons and Grizzlies by 13 and 12 points, respectively. Chicago’s playing great basketball right now.

NBA Pick: Bulls -8 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Bulls 110, Pacers 89

Friday, January 28, 2011 (2-0, +$400)

Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 10.5.

The Pistons have been a covering machine lately, and I like them to beat the spread here. The Heat are playing like crap, so they don’t deserve to be favored by this much.

NBA Pick: Pistons +10.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Heat 88, Pistons 87

Orlando Magic at Chicago Bulls.
Line: Magic by 1.5.

This is a big statement game for the Bulls. Orlando handed them their biggest loss of the year. Chicago can now prove that it’s for real by getting some revenge.

NBA Pick: Pacers +9.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Nuggets 121, Pacers 107

Saturday, January 22, 2011 (1-2, -$350)

Toronto Raptors at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 12.

I’m stubborn, so I’m taking the Raptors as a large dog again. Maybe they were looking ahead to this game. Regardless, Miami is really struggling and doesn’t deserve to be favored by this much.

NBA Pick: Raptors +12 (3 Units) — Incorrect; -$330
Heat 120, Raptors 103

Utah Jazz at Philadelphia 76ers.
Line: 76ers by 2.

NBA Pick: Nets -2 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Nets 89, Pistons 74

Magic 112, Raptors 72

Thursday, January 20, 2011 (0-1, -$330)

Philadelphia 76ers at Charlotte Bobcats.
Line: Bobcats by 5.

The Sixers just suffered the most heart-breaking loss I’ve ever seen in my life. They were beating Orlando the whole game. They were up eight points going into the fourth quarter, and four points with 10 seconds remaining. Idiot Andre Iguodala fouled a Magic player during a three-point attempt. The shot went in. The ensuing free throw went in. Lou Williams’ desperate three-point attempt rimmed in and out. In overtime, the Sixers had two attempts at a game-winning basket, but missed both.

How do they come back from that? They’ll be completely flat for Charlotte.

NBA Pick: Bobcats -5 (3 Units) — Incorrect; -$330
Bobcats 100, 76ers 97

Wednesday, January 19, 2011 (2-1, +$380)

Philadelphia 76ers at Orlando Magic.
Line: Magic by 9.5.

I really like the 76ers tonight. First of all, this line is way too high. The Sixers haven’t lost by more than nine points since Dec. 27. Meanwhile, the Magic are coming off an emotional loss to the Celtics and won’t be up for Philly. Also, Orlando has lost three of four, so it shouldn’t be favored by this much.

NBA Pick: 76ers +9.5 (4 Units) — Correct; +$400
Magic 99, 76ers 98

Detroit Pistons at Boston Celtics.
Line: Celtics by 11.5.

This line is too high as well. The Pistons have won three in a row, so they should be able to cover 11.5 points.

NBA Pick: Pistons +11.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
Celtics 86, Pistons 82

Toronto Raptors at San Antonio Spurs.
Line: Spurs by 12.

Another double-digit spread – but I’m taking the favorite this time. The Spurs are on fire, and this line is not nearly indicative of the disparity between these two teams.

NBA Pick: Spurs -12 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Spurs 104, Raptors 95

Monday, January 17, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Saturday, January 15, 2011 (1-0, +$200)

Milwaukee Bucks at New Jersey Nets.
Line: Nets by 1.

NBA Pick: Nets -1 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Indiana Pacers at Atlanta Hawks.
Line: Hawks by 7.

The Pacers battled the Spurs to the very end last night. They led throughout, but lost by a couple of points. They won’t have any energy for the Hawks.

NBA Pick: Hawks -7 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

Utah Jazz at Houston Rockets.
Line: Rockets by 1.

In my final game, I like the Jazz to beat the Rockets; Houston will have problems recovering off an emotional loss to Orlando last night.

NBA Pick: Jazz +1 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

Friday, January 7, 2011 (2-0, +$400)

San Antonio Spurs at Indiana Pacers.
Line: Spurs by 4.5.

The Spurs opened at -6 and have fallen to -4.5 despite all the action going their way. Maybe the sharps know that San Antonio will be flat after its tough loss to Boston on Wednesday night.

NBA Pick: Pacers +4.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

New York Knicks at Phoenix Suns.
Line: Suns by 2.5.

I’m taking the Knicks here. I have no idea how the Suns will rebound from their emotional loss to the Lakers.

Saturday, December 25, 2010 (2-0, +$400)

Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic.

Two reasons why I like the Magic: They’re playing with more energy since the big trade, and they want revenge against the Celtics for knocking them out of the playoffs.

NBA Pick: Magic -2.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

Denver Nuggets at Oklahoma City Thunder.
Line: Thunder by 6.5.

The Nuggets are coming off an emotional loss to the Spurs. I don’t think they’ll be up for playing the Thunder.

Line: Pacers by 8.5.

A line of 8.5 points seems like a lot for a 4-5 team that isn’t playing very well right now.

NBA Pick: Clippers +8.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 (1-0, +$300)

New Jersey Nets at Utah Jazz.
Line: Jazz by 10.5.

The Jazz aren’t playing good basketball right now, so I think this 10.5 spread is way too much.

NBA Pick: Nets +10.5 (3 Units) — Correct; +$300

Monday, November 15, 2010 (0-1, -$220)

New Jersey Nets at Los Angeles Clippers.
Line: Clippers by 2.

The Nets are coming off an emotional loss to the Magic, so I can’t see them getting up for the crappy Clippers.

NBA Pick: Clippers -2 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Sunday, November 14, 2010 (1-0, +$200)

Minnesota Timberwolves at Atlanta Hawks.
Line: Hawks by 12.5.

Taking the early game on Sunday. I like Minnesota; the Hawks are playing like crap and don’t deserve to be favored by this much.

NBA Pick: Timberwolves +12.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

Saturday, November 13, 2010 (1-0, +$200)

Toronto Raptors at Miami Heat.
Line: Heat by 15.

The Heat are playing like crap right now. This line is way too high.

NBA Pick: Raptors +15 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

Friday, November 12, 2010 (1-0, +$200)

Detroit Pistons at Los Angeles Clippers.
Line: Clippers by 1.5.

The Clippers have endured a number of tough losses in a row, so I don’t think they’ll be up for Detroit.

NBA Pick: Pistons +1.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

Wednesday, November 10, 2010 (1-1, -$30)

Milwaukee Bucks at Atlanta Hawks.
Line: Hawks by 6.5.

Sorry for the lack of NBA picks; I’m so busy doing NFL stuff that posting these is impossible on Monday and Tuesday.

I like the Bucks here because the Hawks are coming off two tough losses to the Suns and Magic.

NBA Pick: Bucks +6.5 (3 Units) — Correct; +$300

Charlotte Bobcats at Toronto Raptors.
Line: Pick.

The Bobcats are falling off the ladder. They just lost a pair of tough battles to the Magic and Spurs.

NBA Pick: Raptors PK (3 Units) — Incorrect; -$330

Sunday, November 7, 2010 (0-1, -$220)

Minnesota Timberwolves at Houston Rockets.
Line: Rockets by 9.

The Rockets have no business being favored by nine. They’re coming off a tough loss to the Spurs, and may not be motivated to play the Timberwolves.

NBA Pick: Timberwolves +9 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Friday, November 5, 2010 (1-2, -$250)

Milwaukee Bucks at Indiana Pacers.
Line: Pacers by 1.5.

The Bucks are coming off an emotional loss to the Celtics in overtime. I can’t see them getting up for the Pacers, who are coming off a blowout defeat themselves.

NBA Pick: Pacers -1.5 (3 Units) — Incorrect; -$330

Charlotte Bobcats at Detroit Pistons.
Line: Pistons by 1.

The Pistons are coming off two tough losses to the Celtics and Hawks. Getting up for Charlotte will be tough.

NBA Pick: Bobcats +1 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Memphis Grizzlies at Phoenix Suns.
Line: Suns by 5.5.

I can’t see the Suns playing well here. They’re coming off two excruciating losses to the Lakers and Spurs by a combined 10 points.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies +5.5 (3 Units) — Correct; +$300

Wednesday, November 3, 2010 (2-0, +$400)

Charlotte Bobcats at New Jersey Nets.
Line: Nets by 2.5.

I think the Bobcats will get their first win tonight. The Nets put a lot of stock into their previous game against the Heat, but fell short.

NBA Pick: Bobcats +2.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

Memphis Grizzlies at Golden State Warriors.
Line: Warriors by 3.5.

After losing to the Lakers, I don’t think the Grizzlies are going to be up for this game.

NBA Pick: Warriors -3.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

Tuesday, November 2, 2010 (1-0, +$200)

Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Bullets.
Line: Bullets by 3.5.

The Bullets are coming off two very emotional losses and figure to have nothing left against the 76ers, who are not as bad as their 0-3 record indicates.

NBA Pick: 76ers +3.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200

Orlando Magic at New York Knicks.
Line: Magic by 7.

The Magic had a big statement game against the Heat. However, they fell flat on their faces and somehow have to get up for the Knicks.

NBA Pick: Knicks +7 (2 Units) — Game postponed; no action

Sunday, October 31, 2010 (0-1, -$220)

Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers.
Line: Lakers by 9.5.

The Lakers seldom cover large point spreads at home because they like to pace themselves during the season. Plus, the Warriors are pretty solid.

NBA Pick: Warriors +9.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Saturday, October 30, 2010 (0-0-1, $0)

Portland Blazers at New York Knicks.
Line: Blazers by 5.

I’m just getting home before 6 p.m., so I’m getting this pick up a lot later than I wanted to. Picks will usually be posted earlier; today’s just an exception.

At any rate, the Knicks are coming off a brutal loss to the Celtics and will be flat against Portland.

NBA Pick: Blazers -5 (2 Units) — Push; $0

Friday, October 29, 2010

Indiana Pacers at Charlotte Bobcats.
Line: Bobcats by 5.5.

This line is a bit higher than I thought it would be, but I still like Charlotte. The Pacers played the Spurs tough, but things fell apart in the fourth quarter. I can’t see them having energy against the Bobcats.

NBA Pick: Bobcats -5.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 (1-0, +$300)

Houston Rockets at Golden State Warriors.
Line: Warriors by 3.

Tough spot for the Rockets. They just lost a really tough game against the Lakers, and now have to play this underrated Warriors squad. I like Golden State to cover here in their home opener.

NBA Pick: Warriors -3 (3 Units) — Correct; +$300
