Tuesday, March 31, 2009 (0-1-1, -$330)

Detroit Pistons (36-37) at Cleveland Cavaliers (60-13)
Line: Cavaliers by 9.5.

The Cavaliers really look forward to these games. They love beating down arch rival Detroit, so this should be a debaclation of epic proportions.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 110, Pistons 84
Cavaliers -9.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Chicago Bulls (36-39) at Indiana Pacers (31-43)
Line: Pacers by 2.

Going against the Bulls again. They're terrible on the road, while Indiana has gotten a nice winning streak going.

NBA Pick: Pacers 109, Bulls 97
Pacers -2 (2 Units) -- Push; $0

Monday, March 30, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Memphis Grizzlies (18-54) at Golden State Warriors (25-48)
Line: Warriors by 5.5.

Something tells me this line is going to be way too high; Golden State has a grand total of five wins in March. I feel comfortable taking the points.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies 112, Warriors 109
Grizzlies +5.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Sunday, March 29, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Chicago Bulls (35-38) at Toronto Raptors (27-45)
Line: Raptors by 2.

This line may seem off to people, but the Bulls suck on the road, while the Raptors have gotten a nice winning streak together.

NBA Pick: Raptors 106, Bulls 93
Raptors -2 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Friday, March 27, 2009 (1-0, +$300)

Memphis Grizzlies (17-53) at Sacramento Kings (15-55)
Line: Kings by 2.5.

The Kings have two wins this month. They shouldn't be favored.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies 100, Kings 93
Grizzlies +2.5 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Wednesday, March 25, 2009 (0-1, -$330)

Boston Celtics (54-18) at Orlando Magic (52-18)
Line: Magic by 3.5.

This is a huge game for the Magic; they even admitted looking ahead to it after barely beating the Knicks.

NBA Pick: Magic 107, Celtics 96
Magic -3.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Tuesday, March 24, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Golden State Warriors (25-45) at San Antonio Spurs (45-24)
Line: Spurs by 10.5.

This line is a bit lower than it should be because the Spurs have lost three of four, while the Warriors have covered the majority of their recent games. Let's take the Spurs.

NBA Pick: Spurs 114, Warriors 91
Spurs -10.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Sunday, March 22, 2009 (0-1, -$330)

Los Angeles Clippers (17-52) at Toronto Raptors (24-45)
Line: Raptors by 4.

Sucks losing games by 2.5 points, but what can you do? Perhaps you can bet against the Raptors, who are favored by four despite having just one win since Feb. 24.

NBA Pick: Clippers 100, Raptors 92
Clippers +4 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Saturday, March 21, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Atlanta Hawks (41-28) at Cleveland Cavaliers (55-13)
Line: Cavaliers by 8.5.

The Cavaliers haven't covered a game in a while, and the Hawks are on fire. This has lowered the spread to a much lower number than it should be. I'm laying the points.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 105, Hawks 93
Cavaliers -8.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Friday, March 20, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Memphis Grizzlies (17-50) at New Orleans Hornets (42-25)
Line: Hornets by 11.5.

Still recovering from Washington blowing a double-digit lead as a 7-point underdog. I like the Hornets here. Memphis has been covering some games lately, and New Orleans has lost two of three, so this line is a bit lower than it should be.

NBA Pick: Hornets 106, Grizzlies 83
Hornets -11.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 (0-1, -$330)

Washington Bullets (16-52) at Los Angeles Clippers (16-51)
Line: Clippers by 7.

I know the Bullets are playing their second road game in a row, but come on... Clippers by 7? What sort of drugs were involved when this line was put on the board?

NBA Pick: Clippers 103, Bullets 102
Bullets +7 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Tuesday, March 17, 2009 (0-0-1, $0)

Washington Bullets (16-51) at Utah Jazz (41-26)
Line: Jazz by 15.

No idea what the line is yet, but the Jazz have lost a few games in a row, so the spread could be a couple of points lower than it should be.

NBA Pick: Jazz 108, Kings 90
Jazz -15 (2 Units) -- Push; $0

Sunday, March 15, 2009 (1-0, +$300)

Sacramento Kings (14-51) at Washington Bullets (15-51)
Line: Bullets by 2.5.

IF WASHINGTON IS FAVORED - I like the Kings. The Bullets have just one win since Feb. 27. If the Kings are favored, or this is a pick-em, I'll choose a different game.

NBA Pick: Kings 100, Bullets 94
Kings +2.5 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Saturday, March 14, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Oklahoma City Thunder (18-47) at Phoenix Suns (34-31)
Line: Suns by 8.

No idea what the line is going to be, but I have a feeling it's going to be too much. Phoenix isn't playing well at all right now.

NBA Pick: Suns 108, Thunder 107
Thunder +8 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Friday, March 13, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

New Orleans Hornets (40-23) at Milwaukee Bucks (30-37)
Line: Hornets by 3.5.

The Bucks have really struggled recently; they have just one win this month. I feel safe taking the Hornets here.

NBA Pick: Hornets 105, Bucks 88
Hornets -3.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Thursday, March 12, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Cleveland Cavaliers (50-13) at Phoenix Suns (34-30)
Line: Cavaliers by 4.5.

Ever since the Suns beat the Lakers as huge underdogs, they've lost every game they've played. Let's take advantage of Phoenix's slump and take the Cavs.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 113, Suns 100
Cavaliers -4.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Wednesday, March 11, 2009 (0-2, -$550)

Memphis Grizzlies (16-46) at Minnesota Timberwolves (18-45)
Line: Memphis by 2.5.

It looks like Minnesota's going to be favored here. Yet, the Timberwolves have a grand total of just two wins since Jan. 26. I'll take the points.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies 99, Timberwolves 93
Grizzlies -2.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Dallas Mavericks (39-25) at Portland Blazers (40-23)
Line: Blazers by 8.

I missed the Mavs last night, but it looks like they're still in this mentally weak state where they can't put together two great games in a row. Portland should win big here.

NBA Pick: Blazers 108, Mavericks 92
Blazers -8 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Tuesday, March 10, 2009 (1-0, +$300)

Oklahoma City Thunder (17-46) at Sacramento Kings (14-49)
Line: Kings by 4.

The Kings will be favored once the line comes out. I'm going with the Thunder; Sacramento has just three victories since Feb. 1.

NBA Pick: Thunder 110, Kings 101
Thunder +4 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Monday, March 9, 2009 (1-0, +$300)

Washington Bullets (14-49) at Minnesota Timberwolves (18-44)
Line: Timberwolves by 3.

How can Minnesota be favored? They have just one win since Feb. 3! Taking the Bullets seems pretty lucrative.

NBA Pick: Bullets 99, Timberwolves 94
Bullets +3 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Sunday, March 8, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Memphis Grizzlies (16-44) at Houston Rockets (40-23)
Line: Rockets by 13.

Memphis seldom gets blown out, while Houston is coming off a tough victory against the Suns. I could see this being close.

NBA Pick: Rockets 99, Grizzlies 94
Grizzlies +13 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Saturday, March 7, 2009 (1-1, -$20)

Miami Heat (33-28) at Cleveland Cavaliers (48-13)
Line: Cavaliers by 9.5.

Miami, like Dallas, is in a bit of a mentally weak state, where they just can't put two quality games together. The Heat won last night, but struggled to do so against a craptastic Toronto squad. They'll rebound here against the Cavaliers, who could be flat after losing a huge battle in Boston.

NBA Pick: Heat 103, Cavaliers 100
Heat +9.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Washington Bullets (14-47) at Dallas Mavericks (37-25)
Line: Mavericks by 12.5.

This line will be about 13, but I don't care. This is a blowout all the way. I mentioned the Mavericks above; they'll rebound off their loss to the Hornets and epically debacle the Washington Wi... I mean Bullets.

NBA Pick: Mavericks 111, Bullets 84
Mavericks -12.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Friday, March 6, 2009 (0-1, -$110)

Cleveland Cavaliers (48-12) at Boston Celtics (48-14)
Line: Celtics by 2.

This is a huge game for the Cavaliers. They've never been able to win in Boston, so this is their big test. The Celtics haven't been playing well lately, so they could be a bit vulnerable here.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 105, Celtics 100
Cavaliers +2 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$110

Thursday, March 5, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Dallas Mavericks (36-24) at New Orleans Hornets (37-22)
Line: Hornets by 6.5.

It's really weird, but the Mavericks are still on this weak-minded kick where they can't put two good games together. They beat San Antonio last night, but were debacled by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday. I have a feeling New Orleans beats them down tonight.

NBA Pick: Hornets 106, Mavericks 91
Hornets -6.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Wednesday, March 4, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Memphis Grizzlies (15-43) at Los Angeles Clippers (15-46)
Line: Clippers by 2.

I can't believe the Suns didn't cover last night. They led the entire game as 7-point dogs, but fell apart in the last few minutes.

Let's hope for better luck tonight. Based on these records, the Clippers are going to be favored. Given that they've won just two games since Feb. 11, I'm going with the underdog.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies 103, Clippers 93
Grizzlies +2 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Tuesday, March 3, 2009 (1-1, -$20)

Phoenix Suns (34-25) at Orlando Magic (43-16)
Line: Magic by 7.

I couldn't decide between two games, so I'm listing them both. The Magic appear to be in the same weak mental state Dallas is in. They just can't put together two solid games in a row. This number could be -6 or -7, so I like Phoenix to cover.

NBA Pick: Suns 107, Magic 102
Suns +7 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Golden State Warriors (20-39) at Minnesota Timberwolves (18-41)
Line: Timberwolves by 1.

Based on the records of these two teams, Minnesota is going to be favored. And based on the fact that the Timberwolves have just one win since Feb. 3, betting against them seems like a great proposition.

NBA Pick: Warriors 108, Timberwolves 99
Warriors +1 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Monday, March 2, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Dallas Mavericks (36-23) at Oklahoma City Thunder (14-45)
Line: Mavericks by 5.

I talked about this yesterday. The Mavericks are in one of those mental funks where they can't put together two solid games in a row. I like the Thunder here to win outright.

NBA Pick: Thunder 101, Mavericks 98
Thunder +5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Sunday, March 1, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Toronto Raptors (23-37) at Dallas Mavericks (35-23)
Line: Mavericks by 6.5.

The Mavericks seem to be on an emotional low right now, as they can't seem to muster two solid games in a row. The good news here is that they're coming off a sluggish performance against the Thunder, so they should be able to cover this number.

NBA Pick: Mavericks 106, Raptors 92
Mavericks -6.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Saturday, February 28, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Oklahoma City Thunder (13-44) at Memphis Grizzlies (15-42)
Line: Grizzlies by 4.

Memphis hasn't won since Feb. 9 and they're supposed to cover four? No thanks. Oklahoma City showed me something by nearly knocking off Dallas last night. I'll take the points.

NBA Pick: Thunder 98, Grizzlies 93
Thunder +4 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Thursday, February 26, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Cleveland Cavaliers (44-11) at Houston Rockets (36-21)
Line: Cavaliers by 2.

I'm like the king of picking teams that blow big leads and fail to cover by a few points. Ugh. I'm still riding the Rockets here.

NBA Pick: Rockets 101, Cavaliers 98
Rockets +2 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Detroit Pistons (27-28) at New Orleans Hornets (33-22)
Line: Hornets by 8.

Ugh. The Rockets were up 13 with a few minutes left. They let the Blazers back into it and won by just four, failing to cover by half a point. Whatever.

The Pistons have been playing horrendous basketball lately. It doesn't figure to get any better here, given that this is their third road game in four nights. New Orleans can make somewhat of a statement by clobbering Detroit here.

NBA Pick: Hornets 101, Pistons 88
Hornets -8 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 (0-1, -$330)

Portland Blazers (35-20) at Houston Rockets (35-21)
Line: Rockets by 4.5.

The Rockets are on fire. Ever since Tracy McGrady went down for the year, they've been winning and covering. They did the same thing last year. I'm going to keep riding them.

NBA Pick: Rockets 100, Blazers 89
Rockets -4.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Monday, February 23, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Boston Celtics (44-12) at Denver Nuggets (37-18)
Line: Celtics by 1.

This is a pretty big game for the Nuggets. They've been playing well, but I don't think anyone considers them to be a championship contender. Well, whether they are or not, this is their chance to prove how good they are. Meanwhile, this is Boston's third road game in five nights, so they may be a little warn out.

NBA Pick: Nuggets 108, Celtics 101
Nuggets +1 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Sunday, February 22, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Detroit Pistons (27-26) at Cleveland Cavaliers (42-11)
Line: Cavaliers by 9.

These teams hate each other. This is Cleveland's opportunity to step on Detroit's throat. The Pistons aren't playing well at all right now, so they're primed to be "blowed" out in Cleveland.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 106, Pistons 88
Cavaliers -9 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Saturday, February 21, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Sacramento Kings (12-44) at Dallas Mavericks (32-22)
Line: Maverics by 13.

This is a really tough spot for the Mavericks, who just lost a tough road game last night in the final minute. Sacramento, meanwhile, has been a covering machine; they're 4-1 against the spread in their last five games.

NBA Pick: Mavericks 101, Kings 99
Kings +13 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Friday, February 20, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Dallas Mavericks (32-21) at Houston Rockets (33-21)
Line: Rockets by 3.5.

Tracy McGrady is out for the year. Ever since McGrady left the lineup, Houston is 2-0. You saw it with this team last year; they band together when all the chips are down. This is a big statement game for them because they're playing one of their top rivals.

NBA Pick: Rockets 106, Mavericks 93
Rockets -3.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Thursday, February 19, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Boston Celtics (44-11) at Utah Jazz (31-23)
Line: Celtics by 2.5.

This is a huge statement game for the Jazz. They had a similar home contest against the Lakers a few weeks ago, and they won that one. This is their chance to prove how good they are on national TV by beating the defending champs.

NBA Pick: Jazz 100, Celtics 92
Jazz +2.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Wednesday, February 18, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Phoenix Suns (29-23) at Los Angeles Clippers (13-40)
Line: Suns by 9.

The inclination here would be to take the Clippers because they were just debacled by the Suns last night. Well, I think that inclination is wrong. The Clippers are terrible and they're not trying at all. The Suns, meanwhile, know they have to play hard because their head coach just got fired.

NBA Pick: Suns 114, Clippers 84
Suns -9 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Tuesday, February 17, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Atlanta Hawks (31-21) at Los Angeles Lakers (42-20)
Line: Lakers by 9.5.

The Lakers are 9-16 against the spread as double-digit favorites this year, so even though this line isn't 10 or higher, that stat should tell you how seriously the Lakers take "inferior competition." The Hawks were playing really well prior to the All-Star Break, and this is a good chance for them to showcase how good they are.

NBA Pick: Lakers 105, Hawks 102
Hawks +9.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Thursday, February 12, 2009 (0-1, -$330)

Miami Heat (27-24) at Chicago Bulls (23-29)
Line: Bulls by 3.5.

This is another statement game for the Bulls. Everyone's going to be watching them on TNT, so this is their chance to prove that they're legit. Miami isn't playing well right now, having lost three of four.

NBA Pick: Bulls 105, Heat 91
Bulls -3.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Wednesday, February 11, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Oklahoma City Thunder (13-39) at Portland Blazers (31-19)
Line: Blazers by 11.5.

I don't get why the Blazers are favored by 11.5. Sure, there's a huge disparity in the records, but the Thunder aren't as bad as their 13-39 mark indicates. Since Jan. 9, Oklahoma City has either won or lost by 10 points or less. There was only one exception to this - a 110-90 defeat at Utah on Jan. 30. Other than that, their losses have been by: 7 (at Lakers), 1 (vs. Denver), 4, 3, 10, 4 and 2 (vs. Houston).

NBA Pick: Blazers 99, Thunder 97
Thunder +11.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Detroit Pistons (27-22) at Chicago Bulls (22-29)
Line: Bulls by 2.

The Bulls hate the Pistons with a passion, and they always get up for this rivalry. In fact, they've covered the last five meetings. Chicago is coming off a West Coast trip in which they played really well. This looks like a statement game for them.

NBA Pick: Bulls 100, Pistons 93
Bulls -2 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Monday, February 9, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Phoenix Suns (28-21) at Philadelphia 76ers (25-24)
Line: 76ers by 3.5.

No idea what this line is, but I know it's a bad spot for the Suns. Phoenix just played a tough game in Detroit. Now, 24 hours later, they have to travel to Philadelphia, where the 76ers are waiting and treating this like a statement game.

NBA Pick: 76ers 105, Suns 96
76ers -3.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Sunday, February 8, 2009 (0-1, -$330)

Los Angeles Lakers (40-9) at Cleveland Cavaliers (39-9)
Line: Cavaliers by 4.5.

I feel as though this game means a lot more to the Cavaliers than it does to the Lakers. This is a statement game for Cleveland - a chance to show that they belong among the NBA's elite. Los Angeles already had its statement game at Boston a few nights ago.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 111, Lakers 99
Cavaliers -4.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Saturday, February 7, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Denver Nuggets (33-16) at New Jersey Nets (23-27)
Line: Nuggets by 2.5.

Though the Nets suck at home, I like them here. They've been hot lately, while the Nuggets will be playing in their third road game in four nights.

NBA Pick: Nets 104, Nuggets 98
Nets +2.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Friday, February 6, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Los Angeles Clippers (10-39) at Memphis Grizzlies (13-35)
Line: Grizzlies by 5.5.

Nice of Memphis to finally show up. They won as moderate underdogs at Washington and then just thrashed Houston at home. They should be able to win this one as well; the Clippers have quit a long time ago and are consequently losing to everyone by at least 20.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies 111, Clippers 89
Grizzlies -5.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Thursday, February 5, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Los Angeles Lakers (38-9) at Boston Celtics (41-9)
Line: Celtics by 5.5.

Call me crazy, but I feel as though this game means a lot more to the Lakers than it does to the Celtics. Boston beat L.A. in the finals last year, and even though the Lakers already got their revenge, one regular-season victory won't quell their hatred toward the Celtics.

NBA Pick: Lakers 108, Celtics 101
Lakers +5.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Wednesday, February 4, 2009 (1-0, +$300)

Los Angeles Clippers (10-38) at Orlando Magic (36-11)
Line: Magic by 13.5.

Missed a cover by half a point. Awesome. Anyway, the Clippers have quit, so even though this line is high, Orlando should be able to cover.

NBA Pick: Magic 107, Clippers 88
Magic -13.5 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Tuesday, February 3, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Boston Celtics (40-9) at Philadelphia 76ers (23-23)
Line: Celtics by 1.5.

The 76ers have started playing poorly ever since Elton Brand returned to the lineup. There's no reason to think this won't be an epic debaclation in favor of Boston.

NBA Pick: Celtics 106, 76ers 91
Celtics -1.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Monday, February 2, 2009 (1-1, -$20)

Memphis Grizzlies (11-35) at Washington Bullets (10-37)
Line: Bullets by 5.5.

I had the misfortune of watching the 76ers-Bullets game on Friday night. I was impressed by how Washington played. They're actually trying. Memphis, meanwhile, isn't putting forth any effort.

NBA Pick: Bullets 99, Grizzlies 87
Bullets -5.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Los Angeles Clippers (10-37) at Miami Heat (25-21)
Line: Heat by 10.5.

Speaking of quitting, that's exactly what the Clippers are doing now. The Heat should win easily.

NBA Pick: Heat 102, Clippers 86
Heat -10.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Sunday, February 1, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Oklahoma City Thunder (11-36) at Sacramento Kings (10-38)
Line: Kings by 1.5.

I have no idea who would schedule an NBA game while the Super Bowl is going on (9:05 ET start time), but whatever. Let's go Thunder - the pathetic Kings have quit and are losing to everyone by double digits.

NBA Pick: Thunder 108, Kings 98
Thunder +1.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Saturday, January 31, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Los Angeles Lakers (35-9) at Memphis Grizzlies (11-34)
Line: Lakers by 11.

Ugh. Missed the cover by half a point and the Sixers hit like 50 percent of their free throws. Let's hope for better luck here. We'll need it laying 11 on the road. The Grizzlies pretty much have quit, however.

NBA Pick: Lakers 113, Grizzlies 87
Lakers -11 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Friday, January 30, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Washington Bullets (9-36) at Philadelphia 76ers (22-22)
Line: 76ers by 10.5.

Laying 10.5 is a lot, but not when you're going against the sorry Bullets. They've really given up on their season and are getting blown out every night.

NBA Pick: 76ers 106, Bullets 90
76ers -10.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Thursday, January 29, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Cleveland Cavaliers (35-8) at Orlando Magic (34-10)
Line: Magic by 4.

This is a HUGE statement game for the Magic. Beating the Cavs would legitimize them as a force in the East. Like Cleveland hosting the Celtics a few weeks ago, I think Orlando will debacle the Cavs.

NBA Pick: Magic 107, Cavaliers 96
Magic -4 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Wednesday, January 28, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Washington Bullets (9-35) at Miami Heat (24-19)
Line: Heat by 9.

The Bullets should have never changed their name to the Wizards. Maybe that's why they suck so much right now. They're getting blown out every game. I really don't see them hanging with Miami.

NBA Pick: Heat 106, Bullets 91
Heat -9 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Tuesday, January 27, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Charlotte Bobcats (18-26) at Los Angeles Lakers (35-8)
Line: Lakers by 11.5.

The Lakers just debacled the Spurs... I don't know how focused how they'll be for the red-hot Bobcats, who have covered like a billion games in a row.

NBA Pick: Lakers 108, Bobcats 103
Bobcats +11.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Sunday, January 25, 2009 (0-1, -$330)

Charlotte Bobcats (18-25) at Indiana Pacers (16-27)
Line: Pacers by 3.

I think the wrong team is favored here. The Pacers are such a poor defensive team and the Bobcats have really been playing well lately.

NBA Pick: Bobcats 104, Pacers 100
Bobcats +3 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Friday, January 23, 2009 (0-1, -$440)

Oklahoma City Thunder (9-34) at Los Angeles Clippers (9-32)
Line: Thunder by 2.5.

It's weird to see a 9-34 team as a 2.5-point favorite, but maybe that tells us what the right side is. The Clippers, who are missing half of their lineup to injury, somehow played the Lakers close. They lost, so I doubt they'll have enough energy for a Thunder squad that is 8-1 against the spread this month.

NBA Pick: Thunder 101, Clippers 88
Thunder -2.5 (4 Units) -- Incorrect; -$440

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 (1-2, -$460)

Memphis Grizzlies (11-29) at Charlotte Bobcats (16-25)
Line: Bobcats by 6.5.

First of all, 6.5 is way too many points for a crappy Charlotte team. Second, the Bobcats just lost an emotional game to the Spurs by just two points. I love Memphis in this spot.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies 93, Bobcats 91
Grizzlies +6.5 (4 Units) -- Incorrect; -$440

Boston Celtics (34-9) at Miami Heat (22-18)
Line: Celtics by 8.

I'm expecting this line to be eight or so. As I said on Monday, I'm going to keep riding the Celtics until they fizzle out again.

NBA Pick: Celtics 106, Heat 90
Celtics -8 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Los Angeles Lakers (32-8) at Los Angeles Clippers (9-31)
Line: Lakers by 15.5.

This one looks fun. Let's lay a bit more than two touchdowns on the Lakers, who always beat the Clippers by 20-plus. It's tradition. Remember, this is not a road game; this is a neutral-court affair.

NBA Pick: Lakers 115, Clippers 85
Lakers -15.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Tuesday, January 20, 2009 (1-1, -$130)

Atlanta Hawks (23-16) at Chicago Bulls (18-23)
Line: Bulls by 3.

I think the Bulls are still reeling from a close loss they had against the Spurs. They lost to the freaking Knicks yesterday!

NBA Pick: Hawks 102, Bulls 96
Hawks +3 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Sacramento Kings (10-31) at Denver Nuggets (27-14)
Line: Nuggets by 9.5.

The Nuggets just lost a really tight game at Houston. Now, just 24 hours later, they have to fly home and battle the crappy Kings? Where's the motivation?

4:15 update: I'm bumping this up to three units.

NBA Pick: Nuggets 102, Kings 99
Kings +9.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Monday, January 19, 2009 (2-1, +$480)

Chicago Bulls (18-23) at New York Knicks (15-24)
Line: Knicks by 2.5.

I don't know what happened last week. I couldn't pick my way out of a paper bag.

The Bulls just had an emotional home game against the Spurs and they came up short. I think they'll be really flat in this spot. The Knicks just lost to the 76ers, but they played well; they were down just one with five minutes to go.

NBA Pick: Knicks 105, Bulls 97
Knicks -2.5 (4 Units) -- Correct; +$400

Toronto Raptors (16-25) at Atlanta Hawks (23-16)
Line: Hawks by 6.

I faded the Raptors a few nights ago, and I'm doing the same thing here. They lost a really emotional game against the Celtics and have since failed to cover.

NBA Pick: Hawks 103, Raptors 92
Hawks -6 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Phoenix Suns (22-15) at Boston Celtics (33-9)
Line: Celtics by 8.

After a really rough stretch, it looks like the Celtics have gotten their act together. Riding them could be pretty lucrative.

NBA Pick: Celtics 110, Suns 95
Celtics -8 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Sunday, January 18, 2009 (0-1, -$330)

Miami Heat (21-18) at Oklahoma City Thunder (8-33)
Line: Heat by 1.5.

The Heat have been on the road for a while, and I think it finally started to wear on them against Houston. Oklahoma City is playing really good basketball right now.

NBA Pick: Bobcats 102, Thunder 96
Thunder +1.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Saturday, January 17, 2009 (0-2, -$660)

Philadelphia 76ers (19-20) at New York Knicks (15-23)
Line: 76ers by 2.

The 76ers have been hot, but they've been underdogs this whole time. The one exception was a game they covered by just one point. This change in dynamic could hurt them against the Knicks. They'll be favored here.

NBA Pick: Knicks 103, 76ers 96
Knicks +2 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

San Antonio Spurs (25-13) at Chicago Bulls (18-22)
Line: Spurs by 3.

My dad called me after the 76ers' big win over the Spurs and called them a "great team." I tried to explain that the Spurs were in a terrible spot, coming off an emotional win against the Lakers, and then flying cross country, but he wouldn't hear it. Well, the Spurs' tired legs will cost them here too.

NBA Pick: Bulls 100, Spurs 97
Bulls +3 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Friday, January 16, 2009 (2-0, +$500)

Toronto Raptors (16-24) at Indiana Pacers (14-25)
Line: Pacers by 5.

Coming off two close back-to-back losses against the Celtics, the Raptors struggled as favorites in their next contest and lost. I have a feeling that hangover effect will continue here. The Pacers, meanwhile, could be pumped after beating the Pistons at home.

NBA Pick: Pacers 105, Raptors 97
Pacers -5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

San Antonio Spurs (25-12) at Philadelphia 76ers (18-20)
Line: Spurs by 3.

The 76ers are playing with a lot of fire right now; they're on the hottest teams in the NBA. They've had a lot of success against San Antonio at home in the past, and I think that will continue tonight.

NBA Pick: 76ers 101, Spurs 89
76ers +3 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Wednesday, January 14, 2009 (0-1, -$220)

Miami Heat (20-17) at Milwaukee Bucks (19-21)
Line: Bucks by 5.5.

Ouch... I had Minnesota and Houston yesterday. Both teams had the game covered until late in the fourth quarter. If I would have taken both halftime lines, I would have gone 2-0. Instead, I went 0-2, losing to the spread by a combined 2.5 points.

I'm going against the Heat again. This is their third game in four nights, and the Bucks are pretty good at home (11-6).

NBA Pick: Bucks 102, Heat 91
Bucks -5.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Tuesday, January 13, 2009 (0-2, -$550)

Miami Heat (19-17) at Minnesota Timberwolves (11-25)
Line: Heat by 1.

The Heat just had a really close loss against the Lakers, so I think that could hurt them here. Coming off an emotional game like that, how do they get up for a "crappy" Timberwolves squad? Minnesota is actually hot, so I like them here.

NBA Pick: Timberwolves 102, Heat 96
Timberwolves +1 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Los Angeles Lakers (30-6) at Houston Rockets (24-15)
Line: 4.5.

I have no idea what the line is, but this is a big statement game for the Rockets, who have put together a nice winning streak. The Lakers have played sloppy defense lately, and I think it'll hurt them tonight.

NBA Pick: Rockets 109, Lakers 103
Rockets +4.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Monday, January 12, 2009 (0-1, -$330)

Indiana Pacers (13-24) at Utah Jazz (22-15)
Line: Jazz by 10.

No line on this game, but I really like Utah in a blowout. This is Indiana's third game in four nights, and they're coming off two very close losses against the Lakers and Warriors. They could be emotionally drained for this contest. The Jazz, meanwhile, have really gained momentum after epically debacling the Hornets and Pistons.

NBA Pick: Jazz 113, Pacers 92
Jazz -10 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Sunday, January 11, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Miami Heat (19-16) at Los Angeles Lakers (29-6)
Line: Lakers by 11.

I've talked about the Lakers recently - they're playing really sloppy basketball. In fact, they remind me a lot of the Colts - an NFL team that plays all offense and no defense. Consequently, Indianapolis seldom covers as a large home favorite.

NBA Pick: Lakers 112, Heat 106
Heat +11 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Saturday, January 10, 2009 (2-0, +$500)

Milwaukee Bucks (17-20) at Minnesota Timberwolves (10-25)
Line: Timberwolves by 1.

The Timberwolves are playing really great basketball right now. They're peaking a couple months too late, but they should take care of business against the Bucks.

NBA Pick: Timberwolves 102, Bucks 96
Timberwolves -1 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Detroit Pistons (21-12) at Utah Jazz (21-15)
Line: Jazz by 9.

I like the Jazz by double digits here for two reasons. First, they just debacled the Hornets at home, and will likely be able to use that momentum to dominate tonight. Second, this is Detroit's third road game in four nights. That's a lot of traveling. I'll take the fresh Utah legs over Detroit's tired bodies.

NBA Pick: Utah 103, Pistons 91
Jazz -9 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Friday, January 9, 2009 (2-1, +$270)

Boston Celtics (29-8) at Cleveland Cavaliers (28-6)
Line: Cavaliers by 4.5.

Huge statement game for the Cavaliers. HUGE. The Celtics knocked them out of the playoffs last year and even beat them in the first game of the season. Now, with Boston strugg-a-ling, Cleveland has to be smelling blood. The Cavaliers are awesome at home, and it's not like winning this game is impossible for them - they knocked off Boston thrice as hosts in the Doggone Playoff.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 107, Celtics 95
Cavaliers -4.5 (4 Units) -- Correct; +$400

Detroit Pistons (21-12) at Denver Nuggets (25-12)
Line: Nuggets by 5.

No line on this game yet, but I like the Nuggets to win by double digits. They're peaking right now, while the Pistons just blew a huge lead in a road loss on Wednesday. They'll be emotionally drained for this contest.

NBA Pick: Nuggets 104, Pistons 94
Nuggets -5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Indiana Pacers (13-22) at Los Angeles Lakers (28-6)
Line: Lakers by 14.5.

I said it on Wednesday - I don't like the way the Lakers are playing right now. They're sluggish, and they nearly lost to Golden State! The Pacers just knocked off Phoenix on the road, so you know they're capable of keeping this game close.

NBA Pick: Lakers 107, Pacers 103
Pacers +14.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Thursday, January 8, 2009 (0-1, -$110)

New York Knicks (13-20) at Dallas Mavericks (21-13)
Line: Mavericks by 8.

It seems like every team that has beaten the Celtics recently has gone into a funk. I don't know... there are only two games on Thursday night, and there's not much to like.

NBA Pick: Mavericks 109, Knicks 95
Mavericks -8 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$110

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 (2-1, +$170)

Miami Heat (18-15) at Denver Nuggets (24-12)
Line: Nuggets by 5.

The Nuggets are really hot right now at home. I really can't see the Heat standing in their way.

NBA Pick: Nuggets 104, Heat 95
Nuggets -5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

New Orleans Hornets (21-10) at Utah Jazz (20-15)
Line: Jazz by 5.

I really liked what I saw out of the Hornets last night. They're playing with so much energy, and they'll likely use the momentum off the Lakers win to propel them to another victory in this contest.

NBA Pick: Hornets 101, Jazz 95
Hornets +5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Los Angeles Lakers (27-6) at Golden State Warriors (10-26)
Line: Lakers by 9.

The Lakers will be favored by double digits. I like the Warriors. Los Angeles just looked so drained and disinterested against the Hornets. Losing could have a hangover effect here.

NBA Pick: Lakers 107, Warriors 105
Warriors +9 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Tuesday, January 6, 2009 (0-1, -$330)

New Orleans Hornets (20-10) at Los Angeles Lakers (27-5)
Line: Lakers by 7.5.

I said it a few nights ago - the Lakers are playing with fire right now, especially at home. They're steamrolling through everyone, and they'll continue to do so against the Hornets.

NBA Pick: Lakers 112, Hornets 90
Lakers -7.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Monday, January 5, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Indiana Pacers (12-21) at Denver Nuggets (23-12)
Line: Nuggets by 8.

Denver is pretty hot right now; the team just beat New Orleans in a big game at home. I like them at home again versus pedestrian Indiana.

NBA Pick: Nuggets 108, Pacers 97
Nuggets -8 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Sunday, January 4, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

Portland Blazers (20-13) at Los Angeles Lakers (26-5)
Line: Lakers by 11.5.

The Lakers are playing with a lot of fire right now. I like them to win by double digits over a Portland squad that came up very short against the Hornets at home on Friday night.

NBA Pick: Lakers 113, Blazers 93
Lakers -11.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Saturday, January 3, 2009 (1-0, +$200)

New Jersey Nets (15-17) at Miami Heat (17-13)
Line: Heat by 8.

I was dead wrong about New Orleans-Portland yesterday, but I'd like to say that I'm pretty pissed off about the Detroit game. The Pistons were -8 and they won by six. But check this out - Sacramento covered because it hit 33-of-34 free throws! That's 33-of-34 free throws!!! Only this could happen to me.

At any rate, I like the Nets here after a commanding win against the Hawks. The Heat just got trashed and could be down on themselves right now.

NBA Pick: Nets 102, Heat 96
Nets +8 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Friday, January 2, 2009 (0-2, -$660)

Sacramento Kings (8-24) at Detroit Pistons (19-11)
Line: Pistons by 8.

This line is going to be double digits, but I don't care. The Pistons are red hot, reeling off two straight victories at home, one of which came against the Celtics. Detroit is playing with a ton of confidence right now, and I can't see Sacramento keeping up.

NBA Pick: Pistons 105, Kings 84
Pistons -8 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

New Orleans Hornets (19-9) at Portland Blazers (20-12)
Line: Blazers by 1.5.

No line here either. I like Portland to win this by double digits coming off a victory against the Celtics at home. Momentum will carry them over the Hornets.

NBA Pick: Blazers 103, Hornets 91
Blazers -1.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Wednesday, December 31, 2008 (2-0, +$600)

New Jersey Nets (15-16) at Detroit Pistons (18-11)
Line: Pistons by 6.5.

No line posted yet, but it'll probably be between -6.5 and -9. I like Detroit a lot here; they're coming off an emotional home victory against the Magic, and should be able to carry the momentum over to this contest.

NBA Pick: Pistons 108, Nets 90
Pistons -6.5 (4 Units) -- Correct; +$400

Milwaukee Bucks (14-17) at Houston Rockets (20-12)
Line: Rockets by 8.5.

Milwaukee just went into San Antonio and won. Pretty impressive. That should give the Bucks enough confidence that they can storm Houston and come away with another victory. I'll take the points.

NBA Pick: Rockets 98, Bucks 97
Bucks +8.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Tuesday, December 30, 2008 (1-0, +$200)

Atlanta Hawks (20-10) at Indiana Pacers (10-20)
Line: Pacers by 1.

This line scares me a bit, but I like the Hawks more than any other team tonight. They're obviously hot, and I think the Pacers could be a little flat after giving it their all against the Hornets a few nights ago.

NBA Pick: Hawks 104, Pacers 95
Hawks +1 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Monday, December 29, 2008 (1-0, +$300)

Denver Nuggets (20-11) at Atlanta Hawks (19-10)
Line: Hawks by 5.

I love the way the Hawks are playing right now in this homestand of theirs. I'm assuming this line will be anywhere between -3 and -4.5. I like the Hawks to win by about 10.

NBA Pick: Hawks 104, Nuggets 94
Hawks -5 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Sunday, December 28, 2008 (1-0, +$400)

Golden State Warriors (9-22) at Los Angeles Lakers (24-5)
Line: Lakers by 14.5.

No line on the Lakers game quite yet, but I suspect it'll be a complete debaclation. They definitely win by 20-plus. They're on fire right now, and they'll definitely be focused because this is their last game until after New Years.

NBA Pick: Lakers 115, Warriors 92
Lakers -14.5 (4 Units) -- Correct; +$400

Saturday, December 27, 2008 (1-1, +$90)

Chicago Bulls (13-15) at Atlanta Hawks (18-10)
Line: Hawks by 8.

The Hawks seem to be on fire right now during this home stand. I'll continue to ride them, even though they missed the Dec. 23 cover by a point.

NBA Pick: Hawks 108, Bulls 94
Hawks -8 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Orlando Magic (23-6) at Minnesota Timberwolves (4-23)
Line: Magic by 9.

The Magic had a great win over the Hornets, but that was at home. Traveling is a different dynamic, and I think they could cool off here.

NBA Pick: Magic 101, Timberwolves 99
Timberwolves +9 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$110

Friday, December 26, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Houston Rockets (19-10) at New Orleans Hornets (16-9)
Line: Hornets by 2.

I know I'm jinxing myself here, but I think I have this NBA thing figured out again. I'm going with the Rockets because the Hornets are playing with negative energy right now. I probably sound like Miss Cleo, but if that's what it takes to win in the NBA, so be it.

NBA Pick: Rockets 103, Hornets 91
Rockets +2 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Thursday, December 25, 2008 (1-0, +$400)

New Orleans Hornets (16-8) at Orlando Magic (22-6)
Line: Magic by 4.5.

Happy holidays!

The Hornets had a big home game against the Lakers they were really juiced up for. Well, they were debacled, so they have to be deflated right now. Orlando, meanwhile, is playing with tons of vigor and energy.

NBA Pick: Magic 106, Hornets 91
Magic -4.5 (4 Units) -- Correct; +$400

Tuesday, December 23, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Oklahoma City Thunder (3-25) at Atlanta Hawks (17-10)
Line: Hawks by 12.

The Hawks are really rolling right now. They just crushed the Pistons at home, and I think they'll come back with another huge victory as a host.

NBA Pick: Hawks 108, Thunder 89
Hawks -12 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Monday, December 22, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Sacramento Kings (7-21) at San Antonio Spurs (16-10)
Line: Spurs by 13.

I look at the Spurs like the Colts of the NBA - an old team that doesn't cover large spreads that often, but somehow always finds a way to win.

NBA Pick: Spurs 106, Kings 98
Kings +13 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Sunday, December 21, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

New York Knicks (11-15) at Boston Celtics (25-2)
Line: Celtics by 14.5.

The Knicks recently covered a huge spread against the Lakers. I think they do it here again.

NBA Pick: Celtics 102, Knicks 95
Knicks +14.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Saturday, December 20, 2008 (1-0, +$300)

Sacramento Kings (7-19) at New Orleans Hornets (15-7)
Line: Hornets by 15.5.

The Kings are 12-14 against the spread this year, so it's not like they haven't been covering games. I think this line is way too large.

NBA Pick: Hornets 106, Kings 97
Kings +15.5 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Friday, December 19, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Chicago Bulls (12-13) at Boston Celtics (24-2)

This is a pretty big line. I don't know what motivation the Celtics will have here.

NBA Pick: Celtics 101, Bulls 94

Wednesday, December 17, 2008 (0-1, -$220)

Washington Bullets (4-18) at Detroit Pistons (13-9)

Monday, December 15, 2008 (1-0, +$200)

New York Knicks (11-12) at Phoenix Suns (14-10)
Line: Suns by 9.

Something I haven't been able to do is get off to a win at the beginning of the week. Let's go with the Knicks, as their head coach is pretty familiar with everyone on Phoenix's roster.

NBA Pick: Suns 105, Knicks 102
Knicks +9 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Sunday, December 14, 2008 (1-0, +$300)

Minnesota Timberwolves (4-18) at Los Angeles Lakers (19-3)

I'm thinking Minnesota will keep this game close. That's all I have.

NBA Pick: Lakers 108, Timberwolves 100

Saturday, December 13, 2008 (1-1, -$30)

Cleveland Cavaliers (19-3) at Atlanta Hawks (12-9)

I'm riding this Cavaliers train until it derails. They're on fire right now.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 109, Hawks 91
Cavaliers -5.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Oklahoma City Thunder (2-21) at Dallas Mavericks (12-9)
Line: Mavericks by 12.5.

I feel good about these picks. I'm not saying I won't go 0-2. I just feel good about them. Here we go, 0-2!

NBA Pick: Mavericks 101, Thunder 98
Thunder +12.5 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Friday, December 12, 2008 (0-1, -$220)

Wednesday, December 10, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Charlotte Bobcats (7-14) at New Orleans Hornets (11-6)
Line: Hornets by 12.

Ugh, I guess I'm going to need another strong finish to the week to stay out of the red. Let's start by picking the crappy Bobcats!

NBA Pick: Hornets 97, Bobcats 90
Bobcats +12 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Tuesday, December 9, 2008 (0-1, -$220)

Milwaukee Bucks (9-13) at Phoenix Suns (12-9)

Stupid Heat. How can you not beat the Bobcats by at least eight points? I like the Bucks here to beat an unfocused Suns squad.

Bucks +6.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Monday, December 8, 2008 (0-1, -$220)

Charlotte Bobcats (7-13) at Miami Heat (11-9)
Line: Heat by 7.5.

I can't believe I rallied and finished with a winning week. Crazy. Anyway, I like the Heat here to rebound off their sloppy game against the Thunder.

NBA Pick: Heat 108, Bobcats 81
Heat -7.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Sunday, December 7, 2008 (1-0, +$300)

Milwaukee Bucks (9-12) at Los Angeles Lakers (16-2)
Line: Lakers by 14.

Two winning picks in a row? What's going on here? The world must be coming to an end.

NBA Pick: Lakers 103, Bucks 95
Bucks +14 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Saturday, December 6, 2008 (1-0, +$300)

Oklahoma City Thunder (2-18) at Miami Heat (10-9)
Line: Heat by 11.

Wow, I finally got an NBA pick right instead of missing the cover by a point or two. I'm shocked.

NBA Pick: Heat 98, Thunder 92
Thunder +11 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Friday, December 5, 2008 (1-0, +$300)

Oklahoma City Thunder (2-17) at Orlando Magic (14-5)
Line: Magic by 13.5.

So, I had to take the day off yesterday. I lost both of Wednesday's NBA picks by a combined three points! Ugh.

NBA Pick: Magic 99, Thunder 91
Thunder +13.5 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Wednesday, December 3, 2008 (0-2, -$660)

Memphis Grizzlies (4-13) at Atlanta Hawks (10-6)
Line: Hawks by 9.

Time to get on the winning track - or lose even more units!

I like the Grizzlies to cover here against a potentially flat Hawks squad. Why would Atlanta concern itself with beating Memphis?

NBA Pick: Hawks 97, Grizzlies 94
Grizzlies +9 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Minnesota Timberwolves (4-12) at Orlando Magic (13-5)
Line: Magic by 9.

I'm telling you, I feel good about these two picks. That probably means I'll lose both games.

Like Atlanta, I figure Orlando to be stale here after a tough game against the Celtics the other night. They have bigger fish to fry than Minnesota.

NBA Pick: Magic 99, Timberwolves 97
Timberwolves +9 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Tuesday, December 2, 2008 (0-1, -$220)

Washington Bullets (2-12) at New Jersey Nets (9-7)
Line: Nets by 5.5.

Missed Sunday's cover by a half a point. Son of a...

The Nets are playing some great basketball right now. They're coming off a solid road trip, so this line is low because they could be flat. I don't think so; New Jersey should be able to debacle the Bullets.

NBA Pick: Nets 106, Bullets 91
Nets -5.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Sunday, November 30, 2008 (0-1, -$220)

Toronto Raptors (8-7) at Los Angeles Lakers (13-1)
Line: Lakers by 12.5.

A potential flat spot here for the Lakers, who are huge favorites over a team they're pretty unfamiliar with. Los Angeles just beat Dallas in a close game.

NBA Pick: Lakers 105, Raptors 100
Raptors +12.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Wednesday, November 26, 2008 (0-1, -$220)

Orlando Magic (11-4) at Washington Bullets (2-10)
Line: Magic by 3.5.

The stupid Thunder couldn't cover last night, but I figure the Bullets are good for one more cover. With a new coach in town, the players are trying to keep their jobs.

NBA Pick: Bullets 103, Magic 99
Bullets +3.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Wednesday, November 26, 2008 (0-1, -$220)

Oklahoma City Thunder (1-14) at Cleveland Cavaliers (11-3)
Line: Cavaliers by 16.

I'm going with the Thunder for the same reason I sided with them yesterday. When a coach gets fired, the players pick up their play because they know they could be gone next.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 101, Thunder 93
Thunder +16 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Tuesday, November 25, 2008 (2-0, +$600)

Golden State Warriors (5-8) at Washington Bullets (1-10)
Line: Warriors by 1.

What a terrible night for basketball. I lost the Toledo cover by two points, Idaho game by one point, and the Orlando Magic NBA pick by three points. Ugh.

Eddie Jordan was unjustly fired. Usually, when a coach gets fired, the players respond for a few weeks because they know their job could be on the line next.

NBA Pick: Bullets 103, Warriors 94
Bullets +1 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Phoenix Suns (9-5) at Oklahoma City Thunder (1-13)
Line: Suns by 10.

This is another case where a fired coach will propel a team to a few victories (or covers). Oklahoma City beat the spread in their last game, and I think they'll do the same thing here.

NBA Pick: Suns 101, Thunder 97
Thunder +10 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Monday, November 24, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Milwaukee Bucks (7-8) at Orlando Magic (9-4)
Line: Magic by 9.

I'm not sure what the spread is on this game, but I suck at NBA handicapping, so it shouldn't even matter. I like the Magic to rebound off their last loss. The Bucks suck.

NBA Pick: Magic 104, Bucks 90
Magic -9 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Sunday, November 23, 2008 (1-0, +$300)

Golden State Warriors (5-7) at Philadelphia 76ers (6-6)
Line: 76ers by 6.

The 76ers went on a long winning streak, inexplicably lost to Minnesota and rebounded Friday night. I think they'll be able to break out of their funk and clobber the Warriors. That said, you may want to fade me because I suck in the NBA this year.

NBA Pick: 76ers 105, Warriors 95
76ers -6 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Saturday, November 22, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Atlanta Hawks (7-4) at Cleveland Cavaliers (9-3)
Line: Cavaliers by 11.

I pushed last night. My first push of the year. I didn't even know there were pushes! I thought the players kept going until someone covered!

The Hawks are starting to win now after losing a few games in a row. Cleveland, meanwhile, could go into a similar funk after going down for the first time in a while.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 97, Hawks 92
Hawks +11 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Friday, November 21, 2008 (0-0-1, -$20)

Orlando Magic (8-3) at Indiana Pacers (5-5)
Line: Magic by 2.

The Pacers just pulled off a big upset against the Hawks, so they can't possibly do it again, can they? The Magic are hot.

NBA Pick: Magic 96, Pacers 88
Magic -2 (2 Units) -- Push; -$20

Thursday, November 20, 2008 (1-0, +$200)

Detroit Pistons (7-3) at Boston Celtics (10-2)
Line: Celtics by 7.

I don't know... I suck at NBA picking apparently; last year's torrid streak seems like a fluke now. The Celtics -7 makes sense to me, so you may want to take the other side.

NBA Pick: Celtics 101, Pistons 90
Celtics -7 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Wednesday, November 19, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Los Angeles Clippers (1-9) at Oklahoma City Thunder (1-10)
Line: Thunder by 1.5.

Stupid Nets couldn't hold a halftime lead as 6-point dogs. Bah!

The Thunder have sucked recently, failing to cover their previous four games, but I attributed that to their crazy schedule where they were flying cross-country every two days. They've had time to rest at home, so I like them in this spot against the craptastic Clippers, who are 1-9 against the spread this year.

I'm not shocked the Clippers are terrible. That's what happens when you stick bums like Tim Thomas and Ricky Davis on one team.

NBA Pick: Thunder 94, Clippers 84
Thunder -1.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Cleveland Cavaliers (8-2) at New Jersey Nets (4-5)
Line: Cavaliers by 6.

The Cavaliers just playing two taxing home games and have to travel to New Jersey, so they seem primed for a down cycle. The Nets, meanwhile, are up after beating Atlanta twice.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 101, Nets 100
Nets +6 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Monday, November 17, 2008 (1-0, +$200)

Houston Rockets (6-4) at Oklahoma City Thunder (1-9)
Line: Rockets by 8.5.

OK, fresh week, fresh start. I hope.

It looks as though the Thunder are on a down cycle right now. They just played in Philadelphia two days ago and had to fly back home. The Rockets, meanwhile, just played at home and didn't have to travel far for this matchup. Houston should (SHOULD - but probably won't) cover easily.

NBA Pick: Rockets 97, Thunder 78
Rockets -8.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Sunday, November 16, 2008 (0-1, -$110)

Detroit Pistons (7-2) at Phoenix Suns (7-3)
Line: Suns by 2.5.

The NBA is not my sport right now, but I'm not going to quit because I was on fire at the end of last season. Hopefully I can rekindle that soon.

Detroit is hot right now, playing well after struggling with Allen Iverson early on. I'll ride them until they lose, which should be tonight, if my sucky picks keep sucking.

NBA Pick: Pistons 101, Suns 100
Pistons +2.5 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$110

Saturday, November 15, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Oklahoma City Thunder (1-8) at Philadelphia 76ers (4-5)
Line: 76ers by 12.

Oklahoma City is 1-8 right now, but they're actually 4-4-1 against the spread. They could be even better than that, as they lost a few covers by a couple of points. The 76ers could be flat after a come-from-behind victory at Indiana last night.

NBA Pick: 76ers 96, Thunder 93
Thunder +12 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Friday, November 14, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Detroit Pistons (5-2) at Los Angeles Lakers (7-0)
Line: Lakers by 9.5.

I needed to step back and take a week off from the NBA, just to observe it so I could pick up some stuff. Hopefully I can go on a nice run like last year.

NBA Pick: Lakers 105, Pistons 91
Lakers -9.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Friday, November 7, 2008 (0-2, -$550)

Detroit Pistons (4-0) at New Jersey Nets (1-2)
Line: Pistons by 7.5.

Ever since the Allen Iverson trade went down, the Pistons have been really focused and have played extremely well. I expect that to continue here.

NBA Pick: Pistons 105, Nets 91
Pistons -7.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Phoenix Suns (4-1) at Chicago Bulls (2-3)
Line: Suns by 4.

Like the Pistons, the Suns are playing really good basketball right now. I trust them to cover the line here.

NBA Pick: Suns 106, Bulls 94
Suns -4 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Thursday, November 6, 2008 (0-1, -$330)

Philadelphia 76ers (2-3) at Orlando Magic (2-2)
Line: Magic by 5.

Ugh... so frustrating. Washington was up 13 in the fourth quarter and failed to cover at +1. Portland was up by double digits in the fourth quarter and pushed at +7. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, came back for me, but came up short of a cover by two points. Unreal.

I like the Sixers here to rebound off a road blowout loss to the Heat.

NBA Pick: 76ers 103, Magic 97
76ers +5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 (0-2-1, -$460)

Washington Bullets (0-2) at Milwaukee Bucks (2-2)
Line: Bucks by 1.

I have a feeling the Bucks are going to be favored by too much because the Bullets are 0-2. However, Washington is an OK team. I think they bounce back and win their first game of the season.

And yes, it's the Bullets; not the Wizards. The Wizards is a stupid name. The Bullets was cool.

NBA Pick: Bullets 97, Bucks 93
Bullets +1 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$110

Portland Blazers (1-2) at Utah Jazz (2-0)
Line: Jazz by 7.

Like the Bullets, the Blazers are off to a slow start and need to rebound on the road. I think seven points is way too much; Portland is a playoff-caliber squad and is very capable of winning this game.

NBA Pick: Blazers 96, Jazz 94
Blazers +7 (2 Units) -- Push; -$20

Memphis Grizzlies (1-2) at Sacramento Kings (0-3)
Line: Kings by 3.5.

I'm done taking the Kings! Done! They're horrible! They're the worst team in the NBA. They can't do anything right. They can't score. They can't play defense. They can't rebound. They can't refrain from turning the ball over. They probably can't even get laid after the game!

Memphis is a nice, young team. They need a win during this road trip, and this could be their best shot.

NBA Pick: Grizzlies 92, Kings 81
Grizzlies +3.5 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$330

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 (1-0, +$300)

Boston Celtics (2-1) at Houston Rockets (3-0)
Line: Rockets by 2.

The Celtics are almost in the same position the Cavaliers were in last night. They were just debacled at Indiana, so they'll need to rebound. Perhaps they were looking ahead to this game. Either way, I like Boston to win.

NBA Pick: Celtics 94, Rockets 88
Celtics +2 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Monday, November 3, 2008 (1-1, +$180)

Sacramento Kings (0-3) at Philadelphia 76ers (1-2)
Line: 76ers by 12.

I feel like I'm the captain of this Kings bandwagon, and there are unwritten rules that I have to go down with the ship. They have to win (or at least cover) one of these games, right?

I don't think the Sixers should be laying -12 to anyone. They just added Elton Brand, so they really don't know how to play together yet. Here's to hoping that the Kings can hang the number.

NBA Pick: 76ers 96, Kings 92
Kings +12 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Cleveland Cavaliers (1-2) at Dallas Mavericks (1-1)
Line: Mavericks by 2.5.

The Cavaliers are coming off a tough road loss at New Orleans, which worsened their record to 1-2. Given that they're a title contender, I really feel that they'll be focused for this game in an almost must-win situation.

NBA Pick: Cavaliers 99, Mavericks 91
Cavaliers +2.5 (4 Units) -- Correct; +$400

Saturday, November 1, 2008 (1-2, -$340)

Golden State Warriors (0-2) at New Jersey Nets (1-0)
Line: Nets by 5.5.

The Warriors just lost in overtime to the Raptors, which was a tough pill to swallow. I think they'll bounce back - they need a victory before their East Coast road trip comes to an end.

NBA Pick: Warriors 108, Nets 98
Warriors +5.5 (1 Unit) -- Correct; +$100

Sacramento Kings (0-2) at Orlando Magic (0-2)
Line: Magic by 9.5.

Oh, man... the Kings were debacled at Miami last night, spoiling a one-unit play of mine. I have to believe that the Heat blowout has boosted this spread to 9.5, which is creating a lot of line value with Sacramento.

NBA Pick: Magic 96, Kings 95
Kings +9.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Boston Celtics (2-0) at Indiana Pacers (0-1)
Line: Celtics by 5.5.

Betting sports is all about finding good and bad sports for teams, but it really doesn't matter if there's a dominant team that's extremely focused. That describes the Celtics right now. You can see it in their eyes - they know what they need to do to win it all again because no one believes they can do it twice.

By the way, the Celtics were 13-5 against the spread off no days of rest last year.

NBA Pick: Celtics 99, Pacers 79
Celtics -5.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220

Friday, October 31, 2008 (1-1, +$90)

Sacramento Kings (0-1) at Miami Heat (0-1)
Line: Heat by 5.5.

The Kings came close to beating the Timberwolves the other night, so I think they'll bounce back against an overrated Heat team that shouldn't be laying 5.5 right now.

NBA Pick: Heat 106, Kings 104
Kings +5.5 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$110

Denver Nuggets (0-1) at Los Angeles Clippers (0-1)
Line: Nuggets by 1.5.

The Nuggets are another team that needs to bounce back following a road loss. The Clippers are probably the worst team in the NBA - that's by default because they have Tim Thomas and Ricky Davis - so I have a tough time seeing them cover in this spot.

NBA Pick: Nuggets 107, Clippers 95
Nuggets -1.5 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Thursday, October 30, 2008 (1-0, +$200)

New Orleans Hornets (1-0) at Phoenix Suns (1-0)
Line: Suns by 2.

The Suns are coming off a huge win at San Antonio, so they may not be focused for New Orleans. I actually think the Hornets could be the best team in the NBA, so the wrong side is definitely favored here.

NBA Pick: Hornets 94, Suns 89
Hornets +2 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Wednesday, October 29, 2008 (1-0, +$300)

Milwaukee Bucks (0-1) at Oklahoma City Sonics (0-0)
Line: Sonics by 2.

Three reasons I'm calling the Oklahoma City team the "Sonics:"

1. As Charles Barkley would say, "Thunder is stupid. Oklahoma City is stupid. David Stern is stupid. Kenny, you stupid."

2. I don't have a Thunder logo yet.

3. Even if I had a Thunder logo, I wouldn't want it polluting my site. What an embarrassment this franchise is. If someone can draw a better logo for this team, I'll put it up and use it whenever I'm picking for/against this team.

I like the Bucks to rebound here off last night's road loss. Many people might be playing the "Thunder are going to try hard because it's their first game!" Well, I looked it up, and the Charlotte Bobcats were debacled in their first game ever.

NBA Pick: Bucks 99, Sonics 91
Bucks +2 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$300

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 (0-1, -$220)

Cleveland Cavaliers (52-43) at Boston Celtics (82-26)
Line: Celtics by 6.5.

It looks like some people are playing the revenge angle with the Cavaliers, which is why this line is 6.5; and not 8.5 or nine. Playing revenge angles is fine - but only if you believe the other team will be unfocused. I see no reason for the Celtics to be looking past Cleveland; this is the first game of the season and the Boston Three Party will be out to prove that they're not old and over the hill.

I'll play Boston on a short number to open the season.

NBA Pick: Celtics 95, Cavaliers 84
Celtics -6.5 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$220
