NBA Playoffs: Round 1, Game 7 (1-1, +$55)

Utah Jazz (54-34) at Houston Rockets (55-33).
Line: Jazz +165 (1st Half). Total: 90 (1st Half).

I'm playing just the first half here, as Utah has led at every single halftime in this series. I think Houston will probably win this game but I'm confident the Jazz can claim the opening 24 minutes. I also like the Under, as both teams will be a bit jittery.

Prediction: Jazz +165 (1st Half) - Best Bet No. 1.
Under 90 (1st Half) - Best Bet No. 2.
Correct; +$165
Incorrect; -$110

NBA Playoffs: Round 1, Game 6 (2-3, -$130)

Houston Rockets (54-32) at Utah Jazz (53-33).
Line: Jazz by 2 (1st Half). Total: 184.

Excluding the Lakers last night, every team facing elimination has covered the first-half spread. I'll stick with that trend.

Prediction: Jazz -2 (1st Half).
Under 184.
Correct; +$100
Correct; +$100

Dallas Mavericks (69-18) at Golden State Warriors (45-42).
Line: Mavericks by 1 (1st Half).

Not much thought put into this pick. I think Dallas wins tonight. If not, they'll certainly cover the first-half spread.

Prediction: Mavericks -1 (1st Half).
Best Bet No. 1.
Incorrect; -$110

Toronto Raptors (49-38) at New Jersey Nets (44-43).
Line: Nets by 7. Total: 189.

Unlike the previous two contests, I don't think the elimination team covers. This should be a blowout. Toronto plays scared against the Nets, especially in New Jersey.

Prediction: Nets -7.
Under 189. - Best Bet No. 2.
Incorrect; -$110
Incorrect; -$110

NBA Playoffs: Round 1, Game 5 (0-6, -$650)

Utah Jazz (53-33) at Houston Rockets (54-32).
Line: Rockets by 6 (Jazz +235).

This seems like a home-dominated series, doesn't it? Houston should win this game.

Prediction: Jazz +235.
Incorrect; -$100

New Jersey Nets (44-42) at Toronto Raptors (48-38).
Line: Raptors by 4. Total: 190.

I only watched the first half of the Nets-Raptors game, but I saw enough. This Toronto team is scared. New Jersey just has way too much experience to lose to such a young team.

Prediction: Raptors -4.
Under 190 - Best Bet No. 1.
Incorrect; -$110
Incorrect; -$110

Golden State Warriors (44-41) at Dallas Mavericks (68-17).
Line: Mavericks by 9.

This is do-or-die for the Mavericks. I know that. But Golden State apparently has Dallas' number, so I think they'll cover here. Nine points seems like a bit too much.

Prediction: Mavericks -9.
Best Bet No. 2.
Incorrect; -$110

Denver Nuggets (46-40) at San Antonio Spurs (61-25).
Line: Spurs by 5 (1st Half).

If the Nuggets show up to this game, it'll be in the first half. Their lives are on the line, so I expect 110 percent from them in the first 24 minutes.

Prediction: Spurs -5 (1st Half).
Best Bet No. 3.
Incorrect; -$110

Los Angeles Lakers (43-43) at Phoenix Suns (64-22).
Line: Suns by 10.

It turns out I was right about Kobe running out of gas in Game 4. Well, he should be ready to go Wednesday night. I can see him going for 45, giving the Lakers a tough victory in Phoenix.

Prediction: Suns -10.
Incorrect; -$110

NBA Playoffs: Round 1, Game 4 (5-5, +$45)

Detroit Pistons (56-29) at Orlando Magic (40-45).
Line: Pistons by 4 (Magic +190).

This series is over. Orlando has no shot; they're just not as talented as Detroit.

Prediction: Magic +190.
Incorrect; -$100

Houston Rockets (54-30) at Utah Jazz (51-33).
Line: Jazz by 3.

Look, I know the Jazz won Game 3, but Houston is still the more athletic and superior team. Utah was just desperate. A focused Rockets team will go up 3-1.

More Game 4 games to be posted tomorrow.

Prediction: Jazz -3.
Correct; +$100

Chicago Bulls (52-33) at Miami Heat (44-41).
Line: Heat by 4 (Bulls +145).

I can't believe the Heat are going to get swept. No way Dwayne Wade and Shaq go down in four. They've had their backs against the wall before. They'll make it a series, eventually losing in six or seven. Just watch.

Prediction: Bulls +145.
Best Bet.
Correct; +$145

Phoenix Suns (63-22) at Los Angeles Lakers (43-42).
Line: Suns by 5 (Lakers +195).

Kobe Bryant carried the Lakers to victory in Game 3, using every ounce of strength he had to draw this series to 2-1. But he can't do that two games in a row. He's gotta be exhausted -- and you can't play tired against Phoenix. Blowout.

Prediction: Lakers +195.
Incorrect; -$100

Toronto Raptors (48-37) at New Jersey Nets (43-42).
Line: Nets by 4 (Raptors +170). Total: 191.

Told you the Raptors would wilt away in the swamp of New Jersey. They just don't have the guns or experience to compete with the Nets, who should be able to establish a 3-1 lead after this contest is over.

Prediction: Raptors +170.
Under 191.
Incorrect; -$100
Correct; +$100

Dallas Mavericks (68-17) at Golden State Warriors (44-41).
Line: Mavericks by 3.

Wow, I was completely off about Golden State! They're really talented, and their sweep of Dallas in the regular season was no fluke. I wouldn't be surprised if they went up 3-1, coming one game away from pulling one of the greatest upsets in NBA history.

Prediction: Mavericks -3.
Incorrect; -$110

Cleveland Cavaliers (53-32) at Washington Wizards (41-44).
Line: Cavaliers by 6.

Washington's done. Without Gilbert Arenas, they just don't have the manpower to overcome LeBrown and company.

Prediction: Wizards +6.
Incorrect; -$100

San Antonio Spurs (60-25) at Denver Nuggets (46-39).
Line: Spurs by 1. Total: 192.

No way Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony lose two at home. One of those guys, and I believe it will be Iverson, will explode for at least 45 points, willing the Nuggets to victory.

Prediction: Spurs -1.
Under 192.
Correct; +$100
Correct; +$100

NBA Playoffs: Round 1, Game 3 (4-4, +$195)

Detroit Pistons (55-29) at Orlando Magic (40-44).
Line: Pistons by 2 (Magic +125).

This seems way too easy, doesn't it? Orlando was beaten soundly its first two games. How are they going to win this one? Detroit. Easy.

Prediction: Magic +125.
Incorrect; -$100

Houston Rockets (54-30) at Utah Jazz (51-33).
Line: Jazz by 4.

Like I said before, it's just T-Mac's year to get out of the first round. Houston is clearly more athletic than Utah. Rockets. Easy.

Prediction: Jazz -4.
Correct; +$100

Phoenix Suns (63-21) at Los Angeles Lakers (42-42).
Line: Suns by 4.

Kobe Bryant was essentially humiliated in Game 2. I seriously doubt he'll get shut out like that again. Remember, the Lakers almost beat Phoenix in Game 1.

Prediction: Suns -4.
Incorrect; -$110

Toronto Raptors (47-36) at New Jersey Nets (42-41).
Line: Nets by 4 (Raptors +180).

The Raptors managed to win Game 2, but that was out of desperation. They're just way too young to waltz into New Jersey and beat an experienced squad like the Nets. New Jersey should win in five or six.

Prediction: Raptors +180.
Incorrect; -$100

Chicago Bulls (51-33) at Miami Heat (44-40).
Line: Heat by 5 (Bulls +225).

Look, I know the Bulls won both games in Chicago, but Dwayne Wade and Shaq have both been here before. They were down 0-2 to Dallas in the Finals last year. They'll find some way to crawl back into this series.

Prediction: Bulls +225.
Correct; +$225

Dallas Mavericks (68-16) at Golden State Warriors (43-41).
Line: Mavericks by 4 (Warriors +180).

Told you Dallas would come back and win Game 2. This series is over. Golden State looked completely distraught when Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson were both ejected in the second half. By the way, these idiotic refs need to calm down. Stop ejecting people! This is the postseason; let the teams play!

Prediction: Warriors +180.
Best Bet.
Correct; +$180

Cleveland Cavaliers (52-32) at Washington Wizards (41-43).
Line: Cavaliers by 4 (Wizards +180).

Cleveland is just way too talented to lose to this Washington squad that is missing two of its best players. Cavs. Easy.

Prediction: Wizards +180.
Incorrect; -$100

San Antonio Spurs (59-25) at Denver Nuggets (46-38).
Line: Spurs by 2.

I'm now convinced that the Nuggets can win a few of these games. Allen Iverson was brilliant yesterday, making me a bit upset that the Sixers traded him. Nevertheless, it was his time to go. Denver should be able to take this series to seven, but I still like the Spurs to come out on top.

Prediction: Spurs -2.
Correct; +$100

NBA Playoffs: Round 1, Game 2 (3-4-1, -$130)

Orlando Magic (40-43) at Detroit Pistons (54-29).
Line: Pistons by 8.

I'm convinced I'm the worst NBA handicapper of all time. Seriously. I suck at the NBA. If I would have bet against myself this weekend, I would have gone 7-1. That's awesome. So, from now on, I'm planning to go against my instincts when it comes to the NBA.

I can't believe the Magic covered Saturday's game. What a joke. The Pistons are still a lot better than Orlando. Blowout.

Prediction: Magic +8.
Push; -$10

Utah Jazz (51-32) at Houston Rockets (53-30).
Line: Rockets by 5 (Jazz +210).

After watching the Rockets-Jazz game, I'm convinced that the former is so much better than the latter. Houston is just way more athletic than Utah. And Tracy McGrady is playing out of his mind. This could be his year.

Prediction: Jazz +210.
Incorrect; -$100

New Jersey Nets (42-41) at Toronto Raptors (47-36).
Line: Raptors by 5 (Nets +200).

Toronto can't possibly lose two games at home. This has to be desperation mode for them.

Prediction: Nets +200.
Incorrect; -$100

Miami Heat (44-39) at Chicago Bulls (50-33).
Line: Bulls by 4.

Miami is much more experienced than Chicago, so after losing Game 1, they should be able to bounce back and win Game 2.

Prediction: Bulls -4.
Best Bet.
Correct; +$100

Los Angeles Lakers (42-41) at Phoenix Suns (62-21).
Line: Suns by 9.

These two teams are a lot closer than their records indicate. The Suns needed a huge surge just to get past the Lakers. The Kobes should cover.

Prediction: Suns -9.
Correct; +$100

Denver Nuggets (46-37) at San Antonio Spurs (58-25).
Line: Spurs by 8.

How in the world did the Nuggets beat the Spurs? I didn't watch the game because I had a poker tournament. No way the Nuggets win again.

Prediction: Nuggets +8.
Incorrect; -$110

Washington Wizards (41-42) at Cleveland Cavaliers (51-32).
Line: Cavaliers by 12.

Washington looked spent. The Wizards gave it their all and lost by double digits. No way this one's close.

Prediction: Wizards +12.
Correct; +$100

Golden State Warriors (43-40) at Dallas Mavericks (67-16).
Line: Mavericks by 9.

Ummm... and then Golden State beat Dallas? What the heck's going on here? It's gotta be a fluke.

Prediction: Warriors +9.
Incorrect; -$110

NBA Playoffs: Round 1, Game 1 (1-7, -$650

New Jersey Nets (41-41) at Toronto Raptors (47-35).
Line: Raptors by 4.

Did you know the Raptors were 48-33 against the spread this season? One angle great handicappers use is betting on underrated teams and wagering against overrated ones. Toronto is definitely under-the-radar and should be a 7-point favorite. They clobbered the Nets in two home meetings this year.

Prediction: Raptors -4.
Best Bet No. 1.
Incorrect; -$110

Miami Heat (44-38) at Chicago Bulls (49-33).
Line: Bulls by 4 (Heat +165).

I think Chicago's the better team, but Miami has more playoff experience. The Heat defeated the Bulls in the postseason last year, so that makes me think they have their number, kind of like the Pacers dominated the 76ers for a few seasons until the latter matured.

Prediction: Heat +165.
Incorrect; -$100

Orlando Magic (40-42) at Detroit Pistons (53-29).
Line: Pistons by 8.

I originally had the Magic down, but I changed this selection to the Pistons. Check this trend out: Teams that have at least 10 more wins than their opponents cover the spread in Game 1 of Round 1 62 percent (52-32-3) of the time.

Prediction: Pistons -8.
Incorrect; -$110

Utah Jazz (51-31) at Houston Rockets (52-30).
Line: Rockets by 6 (Jazz +230).

Utah won three of four meetings during the regular season, and I have a feeling something similar will happen in this series. Why? Easy -- Tracy McGrady is this Web site's new official choke artist. He replaces A-Rod (for more details check out my baseball picks.) Also, 90 percent of the betting public is on Houston.

Prediction: Jazz +230.
Incorrect; -$100

Washington Wizards (41-41) at Cleveland Cavaliers (50-32).
Line: Cavaliers by 11.

This is a tough game to pick because the line is inflated to compensate for the absence of Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler. The public seems split too, as there is 50-50 action on this contest.

Prediction: Cavaliers -11.
Correct; +$100

Los Angeles Lakers (42-40) at Phoenix Suns (61-21).
Line: Suns by 10.

I was shocked to see that more than 80 percent of the betting public is on the Lakers. Why? I guess they're looking for an upset in the first round of the Western Conference. Not going to happen.

Prediction: Suns -10.
Incorrect; -$110

Denver Nuggets (45-37) at San Antonio Spurs (58-24).
Line: Spurs by 8.

I might as well just copy-paste what I wrote above. Not going to happen. There could be three sweeps.

Prediction: Spurs -8.
Incorrect; -$110

Golden State Warriors (42-40) at Dallas Mavericks (67-15).
Line: Mavericks by 10.

It might be a good idea to tease Phoenix, Dallas and San Antonio. People are all over Golden State in this contest. I think they're looking at the fact that the Warriors swept Dallas in the regular season. Fluke. We're getting good value as the linesmaker is compensating for that.

Prediction: Mavericks -10.
Best Bet No. 2.
Incorrect; -$110

Wednesday, April 18, 2007 (2-3, -$130)

Philadelphia 76ers (34-47) at Toronto Raptors (47-34).
Line: Raptors by 7. Total: 196.

The Sixers are on a rampage. They're willing to win as many games as possible just so they don't end up with Greg Oden or Kevin Durant. Thanks a lot, guys.

Prediction: 76ers +7 - Best Bet.
Under 196.
Correct; +$100
Incorrect; -$110

Detroit Pistons (52-29) at Boston Celtics (24-57).
Line: Celtics by 3.

If I could vote for whom the Coach of the Year would be, I'd cast my ballot in favor of Doc Rivers. Unlike the 76ers, the Celtics tanked their games and essentially ensured themselves of Greg Oden or Kevin Durant. The Suxers, meanwhile, will be picking 11th or 12th. Ten years from now, Boston will have had three or four appearances in the NBA Finals, while Philadelphia will be going on 34 years without a championship.

That said, the Celtics don't have to lose on purpose anymore; they're locked into the second-most lottery balls no matter what.

Prediction: Celtics -3.
Incorrect; -$110

Golden State Warriors (41-40) at Portland Blazers (32-49).
Line: Warriors by 10.

This is it. If Golden State wins, they're in. If they lose and Clippers win, they're out. Something tells me the Warriors are going to choke like dogs...

Prediction: Blazers +10.
Incorrect; -$110

New Orleans Hornets (38-43) at Los Angeles Clippers (40-41).
Line: Clippers by 9.

...but it won't matter because the Clippers will choke as well! Golden State gets the No. 8 seed!

Prediction: Hornets +9.
Correct; +$100

Tuesday, April 17, 2007 (2-2, -$20)

Cleveland Cavaliers (48-32) at Philadelphia 76ers (34-46).
Line: Cavaliers by 9.

Not sure if I understand this line. The Sixers are playing better than almost any team in the East right now. Of course, when they had to win against Orlando, they came up way short, which no one in Philadelphia seems to notice. But because this game doesn't matter, the Sixers won't choke like dogs. Actually, they'll probably win.

Prediction: 76ers +9.
Correct; +$100

Indiana Pacers (35-45) at Atlanta Hawks (29-52).
Line: Hawks by 1. Total: 199.

My heater's still out. The water boiler's not working. I'm dying here.

Prediction: Hawks -1.
Under 199.
Correct; +$100
Incorrect; -$110

Dallas Mavericks (66-14) at Golden State Warriors (40-40).
Line: Warriors by 7.

The Warriors need to win this game. But that doesn't really mean they will win it. As handicapper Scott Spreitzer once said, "If a team needs to win at the end of a season, it means they're not that good." That applies to Golden State. Who are they to be 7-point favorites over Dallas' scrubs?

Prediction: Mavericks +7.
Best Bet.
Incorrect; -$110

Monday, April 16, 2007 (1-1, -$10)

Atlanta Hawks (29-51) at Milwaukee Bucks (27-53).
Total: 208.

OK, so one more last gasp for the system.

Prediction: Under 208.
Correct; +$100

Portland Blazers (32-48) at Utah Jazz (49-31).
Total: 192.

I'd like to have a fancy shmancy write-up here, but my basement flooded, which knocked out my heater. It's like 45 degrees in my house. My hands are frozen. I think I'm gonna go to my gym and sit in the sauna for eight hours.

Prediction: Under 192.
Incorrect; -$110

Sunday, April 15, 2007 (1-1-1, -$20)

New Jersey Nets (38-41) at Indiana Pacers (35-44).
Line: Pacers by 5.

One last gasp for the system. That's all I have to say.

Prediction: Pacers -5.
Incorrect; -$110

Boston Celtics (23-56) at Orlando Magic (37-42).
Total: 191.

My 2007 NBA Mock Draft is up. Click on Draft Central under NBA in the menu to check it out.

Prediction: Under 191.
Correct; +$100

Seattle Sonics (31-49) at Los Angeles Lakers (40-40).
Line: Lakers by 11.

This is not a system play, but it's one I plan to implement in the NFL. The Lakers need to win this game. They cannot afford to lose with Golden State threatening to take their playoff spot. That's why they'll either lose or fail to cover. They're going to choke.

Prediction: Sonics +11.
Push; -$10

Saturday, April 14, 2007 (0-0-1, -$10)

New Orleans Hornets (50-29) at Houston Rockets (50-29).
Line: Rockets by 11.

OK, so the system has sucked big time recently. Think I'll try something different here.

Prediction: Hornets +11.
Push; -$10

Detroit Pistons (51-27) at Toronto Raptors (45-33).
Line: Raptors by 5.

Lost my only selection on Wednesday, but at least it wasn't a best bet. The system is now 120-101-2 and 103-93-2 documented on this site.

Prediction: Raptors -5.

Incorrect; -$110

Denver Nuggets (42-36) at New Orleans Hornets (37-41).

I feel compelled to tell you that I'm getting paid $25 to chew gum for a half hour tomorrow. Don't ask me why; it's for some survey this lady is running. So, I'm essentially getting paid $50/hour to chew gum. I love this country.

Prediction: Warriors -5.
Correct; +$100

Sunday, April 8, 2007 (1-0, +$100)

Chicago Bulls (46-31) at Toronto Raptors (43-33).
Line: Raptors by 2.

One thing about yesterday's Magic-Grizzlies Under. The correct total posted was 205; I typed 202, as I hit the 2 right below the 5 on the right side of the keyboard. Sorry for any confusion, but if you bet the Under (listed as 205 or 206 closed), you won. The system is now 117-99-2 and 100-91-2 documented on this site.

Prediction: Raptors -2.
Best Bet.
Correct; +$100

New Orleans Hornets (35-41) at Minnesota Timberwolves (32-43).

I'm too disgusted with the system to write anything creative. Stupid system.

Prediction: Timberwolves -6.

Seattle Sonics (30-46) at Utah Jazz (48-27).
Total: 197.

By the way, how stupid was Heroes for going on a 2-month hiatus. I had to go onto Wikipedia to find out when it was coming back. Hmmm... maybe they shouldn't have scheduled their show the same time as 24. I swear, I'll never understand how these higher-ups make such foolish decisions.

Prediction: Under 197.
Incorrect; -$110

Denver Nuggets (39-36) at Los Angeles Clippers (37-37).

Indiana Pacers (32-42) at Charlotte Bobcats (30-46).
Line: Bobcats -3.

Won my only game last night. Hopefully this trend continues. The system is now 115-93-2 and 98-85-2 documented on this site.

Prediction: Bobcats -3.
Incorrect; -$110

Milwaukee Bucks (26-48) at Atlanta Hawks (27-48).
Total: 194.

Is anyone else disappointed with this season's 24? I mean, it's still a great show, but it's not nearly as good as seasons 3, 4 and 5. Maybe it's because they blatantly copied off of Season 2. Seriously, how many elements can these two years have in common? A President-Vice President fued, nukes and Arab terrorists are elements of both seasons. The only thing missing is Kim's random (and annoying) brushes with death.

Prediction: Under 194.
Incorrect; -$110

Utah Jazz (48-26) at Sacramento Kings (30-44).
Total: 201.

Meanwhile, Lost is as awesome as ever. You can't even imagine how mad I was when Juliette stood face-to-face with that black cloud. I thought she didn't know what it was! The previews looked like she was going to explain everything to Sayid, so I can't wait for that. I seriously can't wait. I thought about taking 50 Tylenol PM capsules so I'd wake up just in time for next week's episode. But then I realized I'd miss 24. In the words of Jack Bauer, "Son of a b----!"

Prediction: Under 201.

The system looked like a fool on April Fools Day indeed. Rough week for it, but it still has netted profitable results, so I'll keep rolling with it, hoping it'll rebound. The system is now 113-91-2 and 96-83-2 documented on this site.

Prediction: Heat -5.
Incorrect; -$110

Sunday, April 1, 2007 (1-3, -$230)

Chicago Bulls (43-31) at Atlanta Hawks (27-46).
Total: 186.

Today is April Fools Day, but my system has looked like a fool the past few days. Let's hope it bounces back today. The system is now 112-88-2 and 95-80-2 documented on this site.

Prediction: Under 186.
Incorrect; -$110

Dallas Mavericks (61-11) at Phoenix Suns (54-18).
Line: Suns by 2.

Funny story: I was at a party last night with a cousin of mine, who was drunk out of his mind. He chugged vodka repeatedly, so you can imagine how obliterated he was. I filled a cup with water and tried to hand it to him, but instead of taking it, he decided to punch the cup, which sent water exploding everywhere. I was drenched. Good times.

Prediction: Suns -2.
Correct; +$100

Memphis Grizzlies (19-55) at Golden State Warriors (34-39).
Total: 221.5.

Right after the water exploded, some random dude who lived at the house came up to us and said, "You're going to have to leave because I don't want stuff all over the floor." I responded, "Dude, it's just water, calm down." I hate anal people.

Prediction: Under 221.5.
Best Bet.
Incorrect; -$110

Utah Jazz (47-25) at Houston Rockets (47-26).
Line: Rockets by 5.5.

So, my cousin spent the next hour throwing up outside. And in my car. Bad times.

Prediction: Rockets -5.5.
Incorrect; -$110
