Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Browns: Sam Darnold, Quarterback, USC

Yes, today's news is this is going to be Baker Mayfield.

Call me the minority but I do not buy it. I believe GM Dorsey wanted to see where the leaks in the office were by spreading this Mayfield story and he has his answers. No different than any 1st year GM.

Darnold benefits by sitting a year then taking over. Where does Mayfield benefit sitting behind Taylor, who they gave up a 3rd for?

This smells like all smoke no fire. Take Darnold. Be Happy Cleveland.

2. Giants: Saquon Barkley, Running Back, Penn State

The Giants really believe in Eli.

If that's the case they need to give him play-makers and protection to succeed. Dez Bryant is interested in the Giants (they just cut Marshall to make room) and Barkley would be another skill player to assist in that vision.

GM David Gentlemen also was very transparent in drafting Christian McCaffrey last year and this is an eerie similar situation. Unless they are blown away, Barkley should be the pick.

3. Jets: Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Oklahoma

I really believe they liked Josh Allen early in the process and if the draft was in February, they would have taken him. The Jets seem to be all in on Baker now.

Mayfield. I do not get it or understand it.

Remember how Johnny Manziel was a "polished passer" after his pro-day and projected Top 5 pick ? His Pro-Day even aired on NFL network. He subsequently went #22.

How is Baker Mayfield better for the NFL than him?

Quite simply, Baker Mayfield is a likely bust. He is a system QB with quick reads and an accurate passer. My player comp is Colt McCoy. Where does he excel over Bridgewater other than crotch grabbing? I don't see it.

4. Bills: Josh Allen, Quarterback, Wyoming

**TRADE*** The Browns trade #4 for #12, #22, and a 2nd.

The Bills need a franchise QB and the Browns can exploit this. However, I do no believe any of the top 4 will fall to 12 and neither do they. The current regime hates mobile QB's, so Jackson is not an option and the Bills are not high on Mason Rudolph. If Barkley is off the board at #4, I think the Browns will open up this pick for Buffalo, Arizona, or someone else.

The Bills can offer the best package and are most desperate to get one of the Top 4. Recent news says they are in love with Allen over Rosen and that is what I bill-eive.

5. Broncos: Bradley Chubb, Defensive End, N.C. State

The Broncos wanted to do two things in FA with the QB position. Sign one in FA and Draft one.

Rosen is the only one left at this juncture and I don't think Elway is in love with him. Elway, like Rosen, is egotistical and won't admit Paxton Lynch is done.

The Broncos were the best with an elite pass rush and the get back to that by drafting the top defensive prospect in the draft.

6. Colts: Roquan Smith, Outside Linebacker, Georgia

Indy has become infatuated with Roquan Smith and he fills a dire need as well. The rumors are they will trade down but with who? The Bears can take him at 8 and San Fran will surely take him at 9.

Indy will be stuck in the 6th slot and take their most coveted player.

7. Buccaneers: Quenton Nelson, Offensive Guard, Notre Dame

Why would TB take Nelson over James?? Well..

They need to protect their franchise QB in Winston and Nelson is by far the best lineman in this draft. The Bucs would then have the most solid interior in the NFL.

8. Bears: Denzel Ward, Cornerback, Ohio State

The Bears are in-love with Ward and while CB is not a huge need, they take the top CB in the Draft.

I am not sold on Ward as at Top 10 pick, watch the Indiana game, he will get dominated by bigger body WR's in the red zone.

9. 49ers: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Safety, Alabama

The 49ers are a mock draft wild card.

They could take a LB, as most project, but are very interested in other prospects specifically Cortland Sutton and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Should they trade down, I see them taking Sutton but the rumors now are they are willing to stay put and take Fitzpatrick at #9, unless Roquan Smith falls.

10. Raiders: Mike McGlinchey, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame

I had Vita Vea for 3 months here and of course 1 day before the draft, I switch it.

The Raiders are popularly mocked Vea, Ward, Edmunds, or Smith because of their early intention to upgrade the defense. However, who is going to man the RT spot? Alexander or Giacomini??

The Raiders saw how bad they were without Derek Carr and they need to invest around him. Also, Donald Penn is 35 years old and on his last leg. The drop off from McGlinchey to the rest is significant. The Raiders can not ignore protecting their franchise QB.

11. Dolphins: Josh Rosen, Quarterback, UCLA

The Dolphins are another draft wildcard.

They could move up for a QB, move back, or take a falling prospect. I had the latter unless Rosen falls.

Miami would scoop up Rosen as they have no back-up for Tannehill and are not confident he is the guy moving forward.

12. Browns: Vita Vea, Defensive Tackle, Washington

The Browns would acquire this in a Bills trade.

The Browns have a need a DT and Vita Vea is the best DT in the draft. He, unlike Shelton, can move and give a constant pass rush. The Browns would be stupid to not take him at 12.

13. Redskins: Derwin James, Safety, Florida State

Washington is commonly mocked a DT or S. I had Payne or James here for 3 months.

James is the higher rated prospect and fills the biggest need.

14. Packers: Tremaine Edmunds, Outside Linebacker, Virginia Tech

Tony Pauline reported that this pick will be Jackson or Fitzpatrick but that was under the assumption that Edumunds was in the Top 10.

The Packers need secondary help but can not pass up on Edmunds. He is a Top 5 player on most boards and give the Packers an upgrade in pass rush vs. Stafford, Cousins, and Trubisky.

15. Saints: Lamar Jackson, Quarterback, Louisville

****TRADE** Arizona trades #15 for #27, a 3rd, and a 1st next year,

It's no secret New Orleans covets Jackson. They had scouts stationed year round and wanted Patrick Mahomes last year. They are not going to make the same mistake and wait.

The move from 27 to 15 is not that significant and allows NO to have a true successor to Drew Brees and exciting QB to groom. There are no obvious holes on the roster (Maybe RT) so the time is now for NO to strike.

16. Ravens: Calvin Ridley, Wide Receiver, Alabama

I got off the Ridley train the last month because McGlinchey seemed to be an option here. With McGlinchey off the board, this pick becomes clear.

Why is Ridley projected to fall? He is athletically limited and ,to me, lacks true #1 potential of a Cortland Sutton or even a DJ Moore. Alabama receiver's, not named Julio Jones, have had a rough transition to the NFL and I think Ridley will struggle as well.

Debate or not, Joe Flacco is the QB next year to Baltimore. What happens after is a mystery but he is going to be the guy no matter who they select. They have to support him out wide or protection up front.
