Round 1

1. Browns: Sam Darnold, Quarterback, USC

I'll stay with Darnold even though the chatter is the Browns like Josh Allen. Darnold's pro day is coming up so we'll see if that changes things. Browns are not taking a RB here, it's going to be the QB the braintrust decides it wants.

2. Giants: Josh Allen, Quarterback, Wyoming

If the pick here is Barkley, that does not say much for the QBs in this draft. You don't get many chances to draft your franchise QB at the top of the draft, and a new regime doesn't want to be picking here again in the future. The time is now to get Manning's replacement. Perfect spot for Allen as he can sit and learn behind Manning for a season.

3. Broncos: Josh Rosen, Quarterback, UCLA

TRADE with COLTS. The Colts are going to extract a bounty for the right to pick Rosen. I think the Colts will choose the Broncos offer as they can also still have Chubb, Nelson or Barkley from this draft.

4. Browns: Bradley Chubb, Defensive End, N.C. State

Browns have multiple picks to draft an RB to pair with Johnson, or even trade up late in the 1st to secure one. Finding DEs are much harder and there's a big drop off after Chubb. Garrett and Chubb--a potentially fierce pass-rushing combo.

5. Dolphins: Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Oklahoma

TRADE with COLTS. Rumors are the Dolphins will move up to draft a QB and they love Mayfield. Smokescreen? I think maybe not--Tannehill is a mediocre QB and now 30. Dolphins pay a heavy price to move up, but they're not fooling themselves into thinking the team is not rebuilding. Suh is probably a cap casualty. Grab the QB and build around him.

6. Jets: Saquon Barkley, Running Back, Penn State

Jets resist the urge to trade down and start getting assets for Cousins. They have a choice between Nelson and Barkley. Jets fans go bananas with the pick.

7. Cardinals: Lamar Jackson, Quarterback, Louisville

TRADE with BUCS. Cardinals boldly move up and pay the price to stake their claim on a QB of the future.

8. Bears: Quenton Nelson, Offensive Guard, Notre Dame

Suddenly there's a wild Quenton Nelson sighting in Chicago. The Bears pounce as the run on QBs hands them the this beast for new coach Nagy. Nagy comes from the Reid tree with stops in Philly and KC where they believe in building from the trenches.

9. Colts: Marcus Davenport, Defensive End, Texas-San Antonio

TRADE with 49ers. Ballard leveraged the #3 pick into a mass of extra picks. Now he moves up 2 spots to secure a pass rusher he fears the Raiders might take.

10. Raiders: Tremaine Edmunds, Outside Linebacker, Virginia Tech

Raiders badly need talent on defense and this is a young, gifted stud for their linebacking crew.

11. Ravens: Courtland Sutton, Wide Receiver, SMU

TRADE with 49ers. Ravens are desperate for offensive weapons and move up to secure a WR for their offense.

12. Bengals: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Safety, Alabama

Bengals are looking for OL but too great a value to pass up here.

13. Redskins: Denzel Ward, Cornerback, Ohio State

Great value here for the Skins as Ward was talked about as a top 10 pick.

14. Packers: Jaire Alexander, Cornerback, Louisville

Jaire tore up the combine and solidified himself for the 1st round. Packers need CB's as their opponents passed at will on them.

15. Buccaneers: Derwin James, Safety, Florida State

Good value here for the Bucs, who need help on D. Not much more to say here as James backed up his great play with an impressive combine.

16. 49ers: Mike McGlinchey, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame

49ers deftly traded back to accumulate more picks. They have their choices here and wisely invest first for protection for their new franchise QB. Day one starter at RT who will eventually take over for LT Staley.
