2018 NFL Mock Draft by kkgekko - 3.7

Post Combine / Includes Trades / Team Needs focused. Free Agency QB assumptions are going to be key here. First I think Kirk Cousins goes to Minnesota. AJ Mac to the Browns. Sam Bradford to Denver. Case K to the AZ. T.Taylor to Miami. Nick Foles stays put.

Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Browns: Saquon Barkley, Running Back, Penn State

For me, Saquaon has separated himself from the QBs in this draft. He is the clear cut #1 pick in the draft and will be the face of the franchise for Cleveland. He will immediately make the Browns better and reminds of LT at San Diego.

I believe Hue Jackson will sign AJ Mac to be the starting QB will take pressure of selecting a QB with the first pick. That said, I do believe the Browns will take a QB at 4 or later in the draft.

2. Jets: Sam Darnold, Quarterback, USC

TRADE w/ NY JETS. NYG Get #6, 37,107, 2nd rounder 2019.

NYG will take Saquon B. if he is there at 2. If not I expect a trade down. Eli has 2-3 more years to him and the new coaching staff thinks if they add more pieces that they might be get back to the playoffs. Clearly the NYG need OL, RB, and an improvement on D. Lots of down.

NY Jets in missing out on Cousins will make them act aggressively. Go up and get their #1 QB on the board. To me Darnold is #1 - despite poor combine interviews, let him sit behind Josh M (yes they re-up him) and learn for 6-10 games and let Darnold take over.

3. Bills: Josh Allen, Quarterback, Wyoming

TRADE w/ Buffalo. Colts get #21,22, 53, 2nd and 3rd rounders 2019.

Colts do the same thing as NYG. Have too many needs to draft one great player. Fall back and get quantity.

Bills aggressively move up to get their QB of choice. Too high for Allen? perhaps - but I think a cold weather team will fall in love with and I don't see him lasting past 5. I could see Cleveland or Denver taking him. Buffalo makes its move and grab "the arm".

4. Browns: Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Oklahoma

I think in this scenario the Browns get stuck. Rosen doesn't like Cleveland and Darnold and Allen are gone. Ok so Mayfield is there, so be it, take him. Browns fans endure Johnny Manziel comparisons.

5. Broncos: Quenton Nelson, Offensive Guard, Notre Dame

No Cousins - get Bradford. Time to fix the OL. Nelson has been talked about as a can't miss OL - All pro multiple years.

I don't think Elway pulls the trigger on Rosen. Cold weather vs warm weather QB. Poor combine showing plus injury concerns. Not an Elway type person.

6. Cardinals: Josh Rosen, Quarterback, UCLA

Trade w/ Arizona. NYG get #15, 47, 97.

After missing out on the top RB and top G - Giants move back again. Quantity here.

Arizona moves up to draft the last of the top rated QBs in my mind. Rosen will go to a warm weather team. Cardinals or Dolphins make the most sense.

7. Buccaneers: Bradley Chubb, Defensive End, N.C. State

TB can't believe its luck - top Defensive player still on the board when they are drafting. Easy decision.

8. Bears: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Safety, Alabama

No WR is worth the value at #8. Chicago needs help with its secondary so its a call b/w Ward and Fitzpatrick. I have Fitz with a higher grade.

9. 49ers: Tremaine Edmunds, Outside Linebacker, Virginia Tech

I think the 49ers sign Malcolm Bulter, and with that signing I think the will go with best defensive player on the board.

10. Raiders: Vita Vea, Defensive Tackle, Washington

Chucky begins the process of rebuilding the defense. A good place to start is the anchor of the DL.

11. Dolphins: Mike McGlinchey, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame

Well the Dolphins are the big losers in the QB sweepstakes so far. I don't think they have the ammo to move up in the draft and I don't think the top 4 QBs will last until they pick at 11.

Next strategy - fix the OL. Draft Mike M and move Larry T back to Guard where he excelled. Left part of OL is now fixed.

12. Bengals: Denzel Ward, Cornerback, Ohio State

I know OL is the primary concern. But CB is also a need. There are lots of OL later in the second round and Ward is the best CB in the draft.

13. Redskins: Courtland Sutton, Wide Receiver, SMU

Two positions of need S-WR. My choice is go with the WR. You just traded for a QB for the next 4 years. Why not make sure he has some weapons to throw to.

14. Packers: Derwin James, Safety, Florida State

Packers are very happy to see a top rated safety fall to them here. I also think they get Jimmy Graham in FA.

15. Giants: Roquan Smith, Outside Linebacker, Georgia

After trading down from #2 to #15 - and grabbing 37, 47, 97, 107 and an extra 2nd rounder in 2019 I think the NYG will draft BPA. They need help at RB, OL, and defense, TE. That said a top ILB is on the board - and their LB's were at best average. Let rebuilding begin.

16. Ravens: Calvin Ridley, Wide Receiver, Alabama

I have Ridley below Sutton. CAn be switched and I have no problem with that. In any event, if the Ravens don't get Landry (i don't think they will), I expect them to grab a WR.
