2018 NFL Mock Draft by DasBrandon - 3.1

I tried not to overthink it since there are a ton of players I know very little about this year. There’s a lot, probably too much, emphasis on team needs.

Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Browns: Sam Darnold, Quarterback, USC

They have to take a QB here, right? Darnold looks to be the safest pick here. He’s good at everything; it’s just a matter of whether his ability translates to the NFL and whether the Browns get in the way of that.

2. Giants: Saquon Barkley, Running Back, Penn State

I want to give them Rosen. I really do, but I can’t. Eli, as bad as he’s looked, isn’t dead yet. Giving him the best RB prospect since I’ve been alive will do wonders for his last couple years. Maybe they’ll snag his future replacement later in the draft.

3. Jets: Josh Allen, Quarterback, Wyoming

Trade! I think the Jets are moving up for their guy, Josh Allen. A lot of people seem to think the Jets like him, and it would be a very Jets thing to do by drafting a QB who completes 56 percent of his passes. Maybe they develop him for a year or 10.

4. Browns: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Safety, Alabama

The Browns have an abysmal secondary. This would be the best thing they could do to help that sorry unit. However, they’ll likely trade down and select two inferior players, neither of which will pan out.

5. Broncos: Quenton Nelson, Offensive Guard, Notre Dame

Like everyone else, I predict Kirk Cousins ends up in Denver. I wanted to put in another trade, but this is too perfect of a pick, which mean it’s not happening.

6. Bills: Josh Rosen, Quarterback, UCLA

Trade! Colts trade down again because they need a ton of help to make sure Andrew Luck actually has a chance to succeed this time around. The Bills need a QB, and they have the resources to move up. Maybe Cordy Glenn is imvolved in the trade, helping the Colts further. Rosen is easily the best QB in this draft, in my eyes. His character concerns are overblown and the product of old people not liking a guy having fun in college and taking quotes out of context. He’s not out doing drugs, so this is far from Johnny Football “having fun.”

7. Buccaneers: Bradley Chubb, Defensive End, N.C. State

The Bucs will be shocked. Easy pick that fills a need.

8. Bears: Joshua Jackson, Cornerback, Iowa

He’s the best corner in the draft, he’s tall, and he’s a former receiver. The Bears need a natural ball-hawk on D. His skill ceiling is extremely high.

9. 49ers: Calvin Ridley, Wide Receiver, Alabama

The 49ers should absolutely go after Jarvis Landry, but here’s an option if they don’t. Ridley is a solid all-around receiver that could make an impact early with Jimmy G. It may seem early for him, but it’s not preposterous. Corey Davis going in the top 10 last year was certainly a bigger surprise than this would be.

10. Raiders: Da'Ron Payne, Defensive Tackle, Alabama

It seems like the Raiders continuously add linebackers, yet they always seem to need one. At some point, someone needs to realize that their DTs are garbage and don’t help those linebackers succeed in any way. I don’t know much about this guy, but he’s big and went to Alabama. Do you really need to know more?

11. Dolphins: Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Oklahoma

Why not? Tannehill stinks. Mayfield might not. Seems like a great pick.

12. Bengals: Mike McGlinchey, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame

They lost Whitfield, Whitworth, or whatever his name is. Andrew something. This guy is also big. Writing mock drafts is terrible. I’m losing steam.

14. Packers: Tremaine Edmunds, Outside Linebacker, Virginia Tech

I think Packer fans would be really happy here. This dude is an animal.

15. Cardinals: Orlando Brown, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma

Larry Fitzgerald may never have a capable QB throw him the ball ever again. Maybe they’ll get someone servicable in free agency. Their line is bad, so here’s a lineman. I should be a GM.

16. Ravens: Billy Price, Offensive Guard, Ohio State

The Ravens need receivers and lineman. Billy Price is a solid center that can help Flacco get back to the Super Bowl...what a sentence.
