Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Browns: Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Oklahoma

Top needs: QB, CB, OT, S

Mayfield is the 3rd highest graded QB in this draft. He has the moxie to take on the task of going from 0-16 to a competent football team.

2. Giants: Sam Darnold, Quarterback, USC

Top needs: QB, OL, RB, DL

They take Darnold. If they draft Top-5 again next year, they'll focus on O-Line. They can get their RB in the 2nd round. If they can trade down they will do so. Chubb isn't a 100% scheme fit, you better be sure he can play a Brandon Graham 3-4 role if you select him.

3. Jets: Josh Rosen, Quarterback, UCLA

Top needs: QB, EDGE, OG, OT

When the moved up, Rosen had potential to go 1st or 2nd. Since then, his stock has dropped like a rock. He is the 2nd highest graded QB though. More polished than Allen and Jackson.

4. Browns: Bradley Chubb, Defensive End, N.C. State

Top needs: QB, CB, OT, S

Chubb and Garrett will be a nightmare for teams in the AFC. Best defensive player in the draft.

5. Bills: Josh Allen, Quarterback, Wyoming

Top needs: QB, OL, WR, DB

Big hands, big arm, big size. All characteristics for a cold-weather QB. Bills are desperate to move up and get a QB. They have to stay ahead of the Cards who are looking to move up as well. Not thrilled about this pick, has the potential to be a Jeff George/Kyle Boller type of bust. I don't see the tweets forcing him past 5th.

6. Colts: Saquon Barkley, Running Back, Penn State

Top needs: EDGE, LB, OL, WR

Colts bust a nut seeing Barkley fall to them at 6. Can't run the card up fast enough.

7. Buccaneers: Derwin James, Safety, Florida State

Top needs: CB, RB, S

The Bucs traded for JPP. I believe they were not optimistic that Chubb would fall to them at 7, even with moves up for QBs. So we can scratch DE off their immediate needs. James isn't a bad 2nd choice to Fitzpatrick.

"There's no comparison for him at safety," says another scout. "Maybe Myles Jack or [Jabrill] Peppers in terms of pure athlete." Well I've heard the Sean Taylor comps as well.

8. Bears: Quenton Nelson, Offensive Guard, Notre Dame

Top needs: CB, OL, EDGE, DL

Another nut busted. Nelson falling to 6th I can see, but to 8th? 3rd best prospect will protect Trubisky (or someone else probably) for the next 10 years.

9. 49ers: Tremaine Edmunds, Outside Linebacker, Virginia Tech

Top needs: EDGE, OG, CB, WR

Edge player, lots of potential. I had Davenport here, but with the Top-3 players in the draft sliding back, Edmunds becomes available to the 49ers. They've got their QB, they need to continue stacking talent on the defensive side of the ball.

10. Raiders: Vita Vea, Defensive Tackle, Washington

Top needs: LB, CB, S, OT

Whitehead & Bowman signing means the Raiders will beef up on the DL instead of add a very electric LB to their corps. Vita Vea can play in the 4-3 DT or 3-4 NT or even DE. Allows the Raiders to be flexible under Paul Guenther - think Domata Peko.

11. Dolphins: Da'Ron Payne, Defensive Tackle, Alabama

Top needs: QB, TE, OLB, DT

Okay I said "let's say the cut Suh" well the cut Suh. Da'Ron Payne has the size, motor, and skill to become a pro bowl caliber DT. You could put Vea here, but I think the National Championship tape shows a slightly higher ceiling than Vea.

12. Broncos: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Safety, Alabama

Top needs: CB, EDGE, OL, TE

Minkah Fitzpatrick should be this draft's Jalen Ramsey - taken Top-5. He falls to the Broncos at 12. He can play Strong/Free Safety and Corner competently. He's plug and play.

13. Redskins: Roquan Smith, Outside Linebacker, Georgia

Top needs: DL, LB, CB, QB

Smith is a tweener OLB/ILB. But there's no doubting his electric style of play. He lays the wood.

14. Packers: Denzel Ward, Cornerback, Ohio State

Top needs: DB, OT, WR, EDGE

You would think obviously OL right? No one can stay healthy on that line, which means Rodgers can't stay healthy. Not a great OL draft. I think you have to go corner here. Ward or Jackson...

15. Cardinals: Mason Rudolph, Quarterback, Oklahoma State

Top needs: QB, OL, WR, DB

Mayfield, Darnold, Rosen, and Allen are off the board. They gave up on trading up. They'll overdraft Mason Rudolph and take the Big Ben comparison to heart. He needs time to develop, and they have Bradford, for what it's worth.

16. Ravens: Mike McGlinchey, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame

Top needs: TE, ILB, OL, WR

They could go Ronald Jones or Derrius Guice here, but Alex Collins looked good last year and they can find a back in the mid rounds. They signed Crabtree and Snead to squeeze a few more years out of Joe. But speaking of Joe, they need to keep him upright and healthy. OT isn't a strong position in this year's draft but McGlinchey is the consensus top tackle.
