Cousins to the Broncos Mock by JohnnyPipes

Thought I'd try a "more realistic" version... but I like my big dreamer one better :D In this scenario, I still give my Browns CB Trumaine Johnson in FA... but the other FA additions include two returning players with QB Josh McKown as an aging bridge and WR Tyrell Pryor as a big bodied wideout at a decent price... I'll still have Keenum staying a Vike with the Fins adding Bradford and the Cards adding Bridgewater... but I'll also give the 49ers WR Allen Robinson... Here we go:

Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Browns: Sam Darnold, Quarterback, USC

Browns add their future QB... Darnold isn't ready, needs to work on his mechanics, and has got to be better at protecting the ball as a pro - but he has a reilly good ceiling with some nice intangibles.... he'll be expected to sit his rookie season and learn...

2. Giants: Josh Rosen, Quarterback, UCLA

Giants are happy to take the best pure passer in the draft... Rosen has his flaws, but he also has great throwing mechanics... sitting behind Eli should be good for Rosen...

3. Colts: Bradley Chubb, Defensive End, N.C. State

Colts make Chubb the first non QB drafted... pass rusher is just a much more important position than RB, OG, or even FS, and the drop off from Chubb to the next best pass rusher is significant - and with no top 5 LT to compete with the best DE this year, it gives Chubb a huge edge over the other non QB prospects....

4. Browns: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Safety, Alabama

Browns select Fitzpatrick to play FS... adding Johnson in FA with Fitzpatrick in the draft is a good start to turning a weak secondary into a new strength... some will be upset it's not Barkley at 4 - but Fitzpatrick is just a better fit at a more important position that is tougher to replace... I like Fitzpatrick over Barkley if I can only have one....

5. Broncos: Saquon Barkley, Running Back, Penn State

Broncos add Barkley with the 5th pick after already landing Cousins in FA... to me this is not the Broncos top target, but rather a case of BPA that could still be very useful... since the next best option for Denver happens to be a guard, RB actually holds decent value vs OG and Barkley is significantly better than the pack of promising 2nd and 3rd rounders...

6. Jets: Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Oklahoma

Jets grab the shorter and polarizing QB prospect at 6... Mayfield did just win the Heisman, he is known as a leader, he loves to compete, etc... but he also has flags not just on his height, but some off field and some moments on the field when passion got the best of him... still, Mayfield feel much closer to ready than the Allen project and the Jets really want to get their QB...

7. Bills: Josh Allen, Quarterback, Wyoming

Bills take no chances and decide to package both 1st rounders to move all the way up to 7 and take the 4th QB already off the board!!!! Allen is extremely raw, but he has the attributes scouts drool over.... Bucs don't mind trading down once both Chubb and Barkley are off the board...

Trade value
7th overall 1500

21st overall 800
22nd overall 780

8. Bears: Calvin Ridley, Wide Receiver, Alabama

Bears reach for the best WR in the draft... Ridley might not be seen as a top 10 prospect by most, but he he is seen as the best WR on most boards and he gives the Bears a much needed weapon for their young QB... feels like a good fit...

9. 49ers: Quenton Nelson, Offensive Guard, Notre Dame

49ers are happy to take the best OL in the draft at 9... it might look funny to see a guard in the top 10, but Nelson is clearly a better OL prospect than any of the OTs this year and San Fran needs interior help most anyway... this is great value...

10. Raiders: Roquan Smith, Outside Linebacker, Georgia

Raiders take the best LB in the draft... even if Bowman sticks around, Smith instantly upgrades the LB core.... this is another guy with great value here...

11. Dolphins: Derwin James, Safety, Florida State

Dolphins are a little upset that both Nelson and Smith went 9 and 10 - but they are happy to land James... BPA that fills a need...

12. Bengals: Mike McGlinchey, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame

Bengals need OL help desperately... Cinci jumps at the chance to get McGlinchey here...

13. Redskins: Da'Ron Payne, Defensive Tackle, Alabama

Redskins add a former college teammate of fellow DL that was their 1st rounder last year, J Allen... I personally like Vea and even Hurst a little better than Payne, but I think Payne is a good fit that the Skins will love and his chemistry with Allen puts him over the top...

14. Packers: Joshua Jackson, Cornerback, Iowa

Packers add a stud corner... if the Pack lose OLB Mathews, they may need to address that loss here - but CB is also a need and Jackson is the BPA on many boards at this stage....

15. Cardinals: Orlando Brown, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma

Cards could use some help on the O-line and with Brown still available he'd be tough to pass up...

16. Ravens: Courtland Sutton, Wide Receiver, SMU

Ravens grab a big wideout that looks like a great fit... most boards have Ridley and Sutton as the top two receivers and the Ravens are happy to land one...
