2018 NFL Mock Draft by VesicalAREYA - 1.0

This is a Mock Draft where I have 0 trades occurring which will not be the actual case in real life. However this draft class is so deep no one truly needs to in order to get a postion of need.

Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Browns: Sam Darnold, Quarterback, USC

The Browns need to finally commit to a QB. This draft class is loaded with talent at this position. The Browns were already told by some draft prospects (Josh Rosen) they would not play for the team if selected. Sam Darnold has not said this and was thought to be the best QB in this draft class before the season. He did not live up to expectations but the tape does still show flashes of that greatness that should be enough for the Browns.

2. Giants: Josh Rosen, Quarterback, UCLA

The Giant have a ton of wholes to fill more then I think most people realize. This could take a while and Eli is standing on his last leg the Giants need a predecessor and it appears they do not think Webb is that. Rosen has displayed his talent throughout the season and has put up highlight numbers in the UCLA offense. Plus Rosen and Eli have something in common they both did not want to play for a specific team. (Eli Chargers Rosen Browns)

3. Colts: Saquon Barkley, Running Back, Penn State

The Colts were recently burned by McDaniels saying no the job after mass speculation he was taking it. Most people believe it was because he will take over the Patriots job eventually but it could also be Lucks arm is not rehabbing properly. Colts O-line is still horrendous so to take pressure of Luck and is shoulder selecting the best player in the draft to help take off some of that load can help.

4. Browns: Bradley Chubb, Defensive End, N.C. State

Myles Garrett was the Browns pick last year. The Browns have a ton of holes to fill so they take the best player on the board and that is Chubb. This immediately makes the Browns D-line a nightmare for QB's in the AFC north. They can double team Chubb and Garrett one will get to the QB.

5. Broncos: Quenton Nelson, Offensive Guard, Notre Dame

For this mock draft I have the Broncos winning the Kirk Cousins sweep stakes. They get their man because John Elway will sway him like he did with Payton. Now they need to protect their investment and they do that by taking the best lineman in the draft here.

6. Jets: Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Oklahoma

Full disclosure I am a avid Jets fan and I am also not a Mayfield supporter. However there are only three 1st round talent QB's left and I do not think that the other two are better then Mayfield. Mayfield has put up a tremendous amount of yards at Oklahoma and was an overtime away from the national championship. Maccagnan needs to make a stand at QB this year so he and Bowles will tie there future around Mayfield. Most have Allen but I do not believe Maccagnan will take a QB who appears to be the next Hackenberg after getting burned by that choice not to long ago.

7. Buccaneers: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Safety, Alabama

The Bucs need help and its in the backfield. You know there is a problem when the best Defensive back on your team is going to be 35 by next season. Minkah seems to translate as either a nickel corner or a free safety either one is a need for the Bucs.

8. Bears: Joshua Jackson, Cornerback, Iowa

Fuller had a nice back bounce season this year for the Bears. However Prince Amukamara appears not to be the long term answer for the Bears. They need a corner to line up next to Fuller and help bolster this defense even more. Jackson seems to have the skills to do that.

9. 49ers: Denzel Ward, Cornerback, Ohio State

The 49ers had a heck of a draft last year grabbing a ton of talent for their defense then got even luckier getting Garoppolo during the season. Last yer the 49ers selected Witherspoon and he appears to be serviceable however, they need someone else to pair with him. Ward is a great corner with high potential and will help the 49ers corner position tremendously.

10. Raiders: Roquan Smith, Outside Linebacker, Georgia

The Raiders defense took two steps back last year and that was mostly because of the lack of defense they displayed. They could not stop anyone throwing the ball and also had issues with people running the ball. Smith looked like a freak all season running from side line to side line making plays all across the field. The Raiders need a field general for their defense Smith can be that.

11. Dolphins: Courtland Sutton, Wide Receiver, SMU

Juice Landry is a free agent this offseason and I do not think that the Dolphins resign him. He has been highly productive in catching the ball but will never be an outside receiver that they truly need and have missed since Brandon Marshall left the team. Sutton can be that guy he is not fast by any means but can go up and get it.

12. Bengals: Derwin James, Safety, Florida State

The Bengals need safety help Williams has not played well for them and that was shown this season when they started off 3-5. The bengals feel like they are blessed because possibly the best safety in this class falls in their lap at 12.

13. Redskins: Vita Vea, Defensive Tackle, Washington

The redskins could not stop a nose bleed last season when it came to running the ball. Alfred Morris torched them when Dallas came to play them. Vea is a 340 lb monster and can eat up double teams so Kerrigan and Allen can get to the ball carrier.

14. Packers: Harold Landry, Defensive End, Boston College

The packers defense needs edge rushers they could not get to the QB last season. Dean Lowery just does not appear to be the answer. Since the Packers are notorious for not signing free agents I do not think they will sign them this season either leaving a gap still in the Defense that Landry can fill.

15. Cardinals: Josh Allen, Quarterback, Wyoming

The Cardinals have lost both Palmer and Arians in the same season to retirement. This offseason they need to find Palmers replacement. They did not win the sweep stakes for Cousins so Josh Allen will be that guy. He needs time to develop and mold but his arm strength and height is his best selling points. With the right coach he can could become the next great Cardinals QB they have not had for a long time.

16. Ravens: Calvin Ridley, Wide Receiver, Alabama

The Ravens need a Wide Receiver and one with a little bit of speed and can get open. Ridley can do all that for them he is believed to be the best Wide out in the draft and pairing him across from Maclin will finally give the ravens a combo of receivers they have lacked for a while.
