2018 NFL Mock Draft by truegrit63

April mock. A few trades to make things interesting. Used Tankathon for round 1 only...later rounds are random for trading moves. 5 QB`s go in the 1st round in 2018. Early movement on the ranking sites has players rising and falling weekly. Crazy trades updates. Added rounds 5-7. Many times teams are looking for special teams/kicking game prospects late. They often double up on certain positions as well.

Round 1

1. Browns: Sam Darnold, Quarterback, USC

Browns once again play tough for a few games. Kizer has been traded. Too bad he had no support but his red-zone struggles & turnovers have the Browns looking for their franchise QB. Sam Darnold has a positive attitude about playing anywhere in the NFL and has a high ceiling and floor. Baker Mayfield may rise as far as # 1. Early rumor saying new front office talent consultant Scot McCloughan likes Baker as the best QB in 2018.

2. Giants: Josh Rosen, Quarterback, UCLA

Pouty and pro-ready. Eli the 2nd. The gap between round 2 QB's -vs- round 2 RB's is substantial so the Giants decide to grab a franchise QB. They may trade Davis Webb if they feel Josh Rosen is the better option.

3. Jets: Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Oklahoma

Jets get their QB. Baker Mayfield`s attitude fits the big city spotlight. Jets love his will to win and ignore the slight red flags during his college career. Possible he goes higher to the Browns. Jets trade #6,round two #37,round two #49 from seahawks, and a 2109 round two. Had this trade mocked back in Jan so it was fun it actually happened.

TRADE UP WITH COLTS.

4. Browns: Saquon Barkley, Running Back, Penn State

Had the Browns trading up to get their RB but now they can get him at # 4.
Browns get lucky as the Giants & Colts feel the 2018 RB class is starting to close the gap and has insane depth this year. Carlos Hyde & Him will make a deadly duo. Duke Johnson adds depth and will help keep teams on their toes. Browns RUN to the podium.

5. Broncos: Quenton Nelson, Offensive Guard, Notre Dame

Broncos have a down year and grab the best OG/OT in years. If Quenton Nelson was listed as a OT... No one would devalue him so much. He was OT in his early days before ND moved him inside to OG. He can play both positions. Case Keenum was signed so they get him some protection.

6. Colts: Bradley Chubb, Defensive End, N.C. State

Colts need defense much more than RB. Look for them to draft a RB later this draft as it is quite deep even into round 3. Colts take a big trade offer from the Jets and move down to #6. Incredible value as they get maybe the top player of the draft and still acquired extra picks.

7. Bills: Josh Allen, Quarterback, Wyoming

Bills love his big arm for typical windy games on the east coast. They move up to grab a rising prospect. AJ McCarron is just a bridge QB for the Bills.
Many teams will be talking to the Bears so the Bills move up to #7 with the Bucs. News of him going to Browns early may be just a smokescreen or rumor. Bill overpay to get their future franchise QB.

TRADE UP WITH BUCS.

8. Bears: Roquan Smith, Outside Linebacker, Georgia

Bears stay at #8 and grab a impact OLB/ILB. His shoulder is healthy and is a top 10 player on tape.

9. 49ers: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Safety, Alabama

Niners grab a impact FS. Minkah just stated he wants to play in the slot. He rarely played outside as a CB so he will play FS for most teams that draft him. He can play outside in the event of injuries, but he is better at FS. As a Field General for the pass defense, Ronnie Lott approves this pick.

10. Raiders: Vita Vea, Defensive Tackle, Washington

Raiders feel lucky he is still on the board and grab a powerful player up the middle. Incredible agility for a man of his size. 41 reps on the bench. He will stop the run and get after the QB. Both are much needed in Oakland.

11. Dolphins: Tremaine Edmunds, Outside Linebacker, Virginia Tech

Dolphins need a impact player on the outside. They take BPA. He is rising up boards each week.

12. Buccaneers: Joshua Jackson, Cornerback, Iowa

Bucs trade down and get a dynamic CB. Outstanding pro-day. Possible they trade down twice for even more picks. This draft is very deep and will give trade down teams great value. Bucs give up #7 & receive Buffalo`s 2018 #12 via bengals & 2018 #22 via chiefs.

TRADE DOWN WITH BILLS.

13. Redskins: Derwin James, Safety, Florida State

Redskins grab a versatile SS/FS with explosive skills. Big trade with the Chiefs getting Alex Smith. Hard to believe they gave Alex 4 years but couldn`t sign Kirk.

14. Packers: Denzel Ward, Cornerback, Ohio State

Packers grab the top CB is the 2018 class. Teaming with last years Kevin King gives the Pack a strong tandem @ the CB position.

15. Cardinals: Lamar Jackson, Quarterback, Louisville

Cards FINALLY draft a QB. New coach gets a new QB. They saw how Deshaun Watson impacted the league and grab their franchise QB.

16. Falcons: Da'Ron Payne, Defensive Tackle, Alabama

Falcons take a great NT. His combine was impressive. They trade up with the Ravens. They jump ahead of the Chargers. Ravens receive 2018 #26 and a 2019 round 2 pick.
